Hi FME'ers,Here's the FME Monday Quiz for this week. It covers new transformers, schedules, Twitter accounts, and sports. Give it a try and see how you do.https://demos-safe-software.fmecloud.com/fmeserver/apps/FMEQuizRemember, I'm going to call a winner after this week, and start the league table afresh next week. So it's your chance to top the table when it really matters!Mark
Hello FME'ers and Happy November! There's a saying that "things always come in threes" and here's proof. This Question of the Week is not so much one question, as three instances of the same requirement: to put a datetime in a file name.Question of the WeekQ) I have a workspace that downloads files, renames them and stores them in a ZIP file. Said ZIP should contain the current date in its filename. Can this be done somehow?Asked in various forms, here, here, and here!A) Basically the user wants to add the current datetime to an output filename. The obvious use is to stop multiple runs overwriting the same file. I like this question because there are multiple places where this might be done: on a writer, in a transformer, or as the name of a log file. Let's take the writer scenario first.Writer TimestampsTo get a timestamp I obviously need to use either the DateTimeStamper transformer or the DateTimeNow() function. However, if I enter that function directly int
I have CSV that contains Lat/long. i need to convert this into points using spatial reference WGS 1984. then i have to compare this point data with my building point layer. i need to calculate distance between the points in CSV and the building layer. Building layer has already this CSV data but the locations in CSV has been changed. I need to find the distance in feet.
Error came when i am using textpromp extractor(geometry error) of one feature. Because of this i cant be able to proceed further.
If I create a new column in a feature class and want to write data to it, is is "Insert and Create as Needed" in the General Table Operations?
Have few queries before migrating FME Desktop and Server version 2015.1 to 20191. Whether OS Windows 2012 R2 will support FME Desktop and Server 2019?2. Does FME workbench older version 2015.1 will work on version 2019?3. Is ESRI ArcSDE 10.1 (.sde) file will connect through Direct Connection on FME Version 2019?4. Is it possible to save or connect ESRI ArcGIS 10.1 FGDB file through FME version 2019?Thanks in advance.
Unable to flush the cursor for the feature class 'M_SDAT' because the spatial index is too small. Increase the spatial index on 'M_SDAT' and retry I have an old complicated workbench. It translates all of the NOAA Electronic Navigational Charts S-57 .000 files into Oracle for internal users and external arcgis server rest services. It's been running every Saturday on a schedule for years. lately it's been throwing the above error. I'm able to get past it and run the translation by disable that particular feature class. But every week it's breaking on a different one, so I need to find a real answer. FME Server 2019.0.0.1 Build 19246 - win64Oracle 12.1.0.2
Hi FME'ers,Here are the answers and results to yesterday's quiz:Answers1) How many engines are permitted on a professional (4 core) FME Cloud instance?14816UnlimitedIt's actually unlimited! You can run as many engines as you want, on any FME Cloud machine. Check out the pricing page if you don't believe me!Of course, as in Jurassic Park, don't get so preoccupied with whether or not you could run a million engines, that you don't stop to think if you should! The architecture of the machine effectively limits how many engines are viable. But it also depends on the size of the jobs and what they are doing. Smaller jobs would allow for more engines, as would jobs that use less CPU time (I'm thinking calls to a database or web service).2) Humourous titles are a great draw to presentations at the World Tour and User Conference. All of these films have been referenced in an FME presentation, but which one occurs the most?Confessions of (a Dangerous Mind) (1 present

As before, I'll be back online with the answers tomorrow, and a list of top scores, so I'll see you then.Quiz: https://demos-safe-software.fmecloud.com/fmeserver/apps/FMEQuizIt is still a bit experimental (my use of Server apps) so do let me know if it doesn't work for some reason (I do see a bit of an encoding issue with one question, but it should be OK).CheersMark

Hello FME'ers, I wanted to introduce another new item here, the Question of the Week. We get asked a lot of questions at Safe - whether in the community or via support - and I wanted to highlight some of the most interesting ones.Question of the WeekThis question concerns coordinate systems and came to us via Live-Chat. Q) When reprojecting, does FME have any 'tolerance' in regards to errors that may be introduced? How accurate will a reprojection be? A) This is a great question because nearly all of us use coordinate systems, and yet reprojection can be a bit of a mystery that we're intimidated by. Let me try and simplify the process. A reprojection in FME is carried out using one of two operations. 1) The first operation is a mathematically exact method. Typically these are reprojections within the same datum. The only "errors" in there will be due to rounding when using 64-bit math (I've mentioned that sort of computing precision issue before) but i
Hi FME'ers,Here are the answers and results to yesterday's quiz:Answers1) Which transformer is the A....P....S....?ArcPropertySetterAttributePivotSetterAzurePageSorterAutodeskPolygonShifterAuxiliaryPowerSupplyIt's the ArcPropertySetter. I hope you all got that. It's really the only one that makes sense, and you could easily look it up by typing APS into the Workbench Quick Add window. 2) What color is the balloon in the World Tour 2018 wallpaper?RedGreenBlueFulvousThere is no balloon. The answer is green. Here's proof...Fulvous (#E48400) is a type of orange-yellow colour. I was going to use smaragdine (#50C875) in the list instead, but that too is green and I didn't want to confuse the issue. Someone should really make a 'strange color bookmark palette' for FME (smaragdine would be good, amaranth means an error!) 3) Safe Software took its name from...The Spatial Archive Format for Exchange (SAFE)The Spatial Archive Interchange Format (SAIF)The Spatial Ar
Hi FME'ers,It's going to be a quiet day from Safe today, since it's Canadian Thanksgiving (Happy Thanksgiving everyone). So in lieu of input on your questions, here's a brief quiz for you to try out.I'm hoping to do one of these a week for the foreseeable future. I'll be back online with the answers tomorrow, and a list of top scores, so I'll see you then.Quiz: https://demos-safe-software.fmecloud.com/fmeserver/apps/FMEQuizOh, yes, I built it with FME Server. It's only a rough-and-ready setup so far, but I hope to improve it soon.CheersMark
I am attempting to use FME Desktop 2019.1 to read in shapefiles that are nested in 8 different folders as part of my workflow and continue to receive the error that the file does not exist nor does the directory. However, if I run the exact same job in Desktop 2018.1 it works perfectly fine. FME 2019 seems to have an issue with wildcards because it will not work with reading in multiple .csv files that are nested in folders. For example, D:\\Alpha\\Bravo\\Charlie\\Exploration\\**\\*.shp All 8 folders reside in the Exploration top-level folder and contain shapefiles from various regions around the globe. 2018.1 works flawless with my current setup but when I try to run it in 2019 I receive the error: Shape Reader: Failed to open dataset 'D:\\Alpha\\Bravo\\Charlie\\Exploration\\**\\*.shp' which is neither an existing file nor directory
Hi, I am new to FME. I have a 2D DGN file which I want to export to FBX and then plan to use that FBX in the Unity 3D game engine(in 2D mode). Currently, I used FME inspector to view the DGN file which opens fine and displays everything correctly. But then when I go to files menu and save it as FBX file, it exports around 10 files which are partially visible. Please help me in sorting this issue. Let me know if any further information is needed. Thank You,Vikas
