Hi im new to Fme. Im trying to build a script where I have coordinates as an input(longitude and latitude) and then find the closest substation to those coordinates. I have managed to get the coordinates for the substations but I don’t now how to make my input to coordinates. Im thinking of using NeighborFinder after to find the closest substation. I would be grateful if anyone have any tips to solve this?
Hi all, I've been working with validating Solid geometries in FME. I'm tying to understand the different scenarios and how they translate to the errors FME takes note of. I'm specifically interested in knowing how to cause the issue of "Not Enough Faces" which is documented as an issue in the invalid solid boundaries here: http://docs.safe.com/fme/html/FME_Desktop_Documentation/FME_Transformers/Transformers/geometryvalidator.htm#InvalidSolidBoundaries I performed a simple test where I simply just removed one of the surfaces in the solid, it was just a rectangular prism but now with only 5 surfaces (instead of 6). The resulting error message was "Surface Not Closed". Anyone know where I might expect to see the "Not Enough Faces" pop up?
In my Workflow Model, the daily soil temperature is decided by itself and other parameters one day before. For example, I created column A (the present soil temperature Ts1), column B(air temperature Ta1), and column C(the soil temperature next day Ts2) in Excel and I had the soil temperature from day 1 and daily measure data of air temperature for 3 days. I have created a looper in FME, i wanna input Cell A2, B2 to calculate and output the value in C2 at the first looping. At the second looping the value in C2 would automatically return as input value A3. With the measure value B3, the value C3 would be calculated, until we have all the soil temperature for 3 days. How can i use the reader, writer, and looper in FME to achieve this?
I vaguely recall having some issue in the past getting features' coordinate system using CoordSys function and CoordinateSystemExtractor transformer. If my memory serves me right one of them was not reflecting the actual coordinate system of each feature. Has anyone come across such a problem? May I rely on that CoordSys function and CoordinateSystemExtractor transformer will always return the same information? Thanks!
HiWe are recieving a daily csv from a supplier and I would like to merge them all into one file (ideally write to a sql server database but could just be a csv). I have enabled the reader to read everything in the folder, which works fine. However, if I run this every day, it will become increasing inefficient to truncate the table being written and update it. Is there a way that I can check if a file has already been written and then just append ones that haven't? ThanksMark
Hi community,I've gone back in to an old workspace and updated a feature reader transformer. It's then supposed to route into a Featuretypefilter to get a list of the feature types. Doesn't appear to be getting any results when I press 'update' in the Featuretypefilter transformer. Is this a bug or am I missing something here? See screenshots below. Am using ver 2020.1.
Hi everyone! I'm trying to make a PointOnAreaOverlay crossing a points database with a polygons database. The problem is that more than one point it's inside of a some polygons, and I wanna create one polygon for each point... even it that create duplicate polygons. When I use the tool PointOnAreaOverlay, it's creating just one polygon and taking the data from the first point. How can I create a separate polygon for each point? Thank you very much!!!
Hello FME'ersToday it's quiz day and your challenger today is... everyone at Safe!Let me explain. With the FME Hackathon about to start, I'm going to take a break from the quiz, and perhaps come back with a new format in a few weeks. So just in case this is the last User vs Safer contest, I thought I'd let everyone at Safe take part.In short, I made the questions public to all Safers in the form of a poll, and am taking the most popular answer as the Safe choice. I think you call it "wisdom of the crowds".The Safer score is good... but it's beatable. So have a go at the quiz here: https://demos-safe-software.fmecloud.com/fmeserver/apps/FMEQuizAnd good luck!PS: This is also likely the last time the quiz will be posted on this community setup. We'll probably start migrating everything to the new system later today, so even these quiz answers will be posted to the new system. I can't wait for that to happen! So if we suddenly go read-only, then I'l
Hello everyone,Welcome to the first quiz results on the new-style FME Community. This week you were up against the entire staff of Safe Software - where the answers were chosen as the most common choice. Quick NoteWe've done 30 User vs Safer quizzes now, and with the change in community and ongoing hackathon, I'll think we'll take a short break in the quiz, and restart in September.Maybe I'll change the format, but either way, I think it's a good time to reset the scores. So the scores at the foot of this page are final! So let's see how you all did... Answers1) How do you collapse a bookmark on the FME Workbench canvas?Set it in the bookmark properties dialogUsing the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+CClick the drop-down arrow on the bookmark headerThe Collapse Bookmark toolbar buttonAll of the aboveThe only correct answer is that you click the drop-down button on the bookmark header: I don't usually do "All of the Above" questions, so you can pretty much tell
I have a pipe-network with an inside and outside diameter (they are empty inside) how can I create those pipes. Bufferer only gives me solid pipes. The data are 3d shapefile lines.
Hello! Can comebody tell me what is the solution, for me to be able to color line with respect to Y axis values. I want to have something like in the attached image below:Thank you in advance.
Can I change the start or end height of a line separate from each other? The 3D-Forcer changes the height of the complete line. For example: I managed to change my 2D lines to 3D with the Surfacedraper now I want to add to the height -1m over the complete line.
From an Excel that has the columns name, alias and type we can create the scheme for a geodatabase.
So my xsd file says that geometry name must be <gd:centralLine>. However, while writing in GML 2.1.2 Writer using application schema I get <gml:lineStringProperty> as a result. How to force that my geometry is named as in xsd file?I've tried GeometryPropertySetter - no success I'm using FME 2016
Is it possible to create a table schema with a predefined number of empty records on the fly?
Hello FME'ers,It's on our blog, so it's official: we are running an FME Hackathon over the coming weeks. You can find the full details of the event in this knowledgebase article. We're hoping that this is going to be a fun and worthwhile event, with a lot of great projects and some money raised for a mental health charity (we're making a donation for every user who takes part). This thread is for general discussion, sharing of ideas, and forming up teams if you wish. We're hoping that you'll band together to produce team efforts: maybe a work team, or a team based on location, or common interests, or just randomly get together! And if you need any FME advice during the contest, we can perhaps pair you up with a Safe support person to give you advice and suggestions. @jlutherthomas or myself (@mark2atsafe) are the folks to get in touch with for any general or technical enquiries. So make sure to sign up and take part. It's going to be fantastic!
It's Wednesday my dudes, and so that means the weekly quiz answers. This week you were competing against Marc DeRosier from Safe, expert in Shapefile and Excel, but how would he do on Server, XML webinars, and "ancient" FME versions?Let's see...Answers1) Which of these is NOT an option in the Shapefile output dimension parameter?2D3D 2D + Measures3D + MeasuresDimension From First FeatureThe answer is that plain 3D is not an option:I'm not sure why, but I suspect it's because the allowed types in a Shapefile are (for points) Point (X,Y), PointM (X,Y,M) and PointZ (X,Y,Z,optional M). So 2D and 2D + Measures are different types (Point/PointM) but 3D features will always be PointZ, whether or not you have measures.Marc's Answer: 3D + Measures (Incorrect)2) There are some weird and wacky terms used in data science. But only one of these terms will actually bring up a result in a Quick Add search (either "Search Name" or "Search Help"). Which
Dear FME community.I've DynamoDB DataBase. In this DB, directly in AWS I can make a request (for example I can select only data between two dates) :It's necessary for don't scan all the table. In FME I can see the equivalent of the classical query in DynamoDB base on the index :LikeThe problem is, in this case, I must choose one value before to choose an other filter.Do you know how can I make a filter lika the "analyser" in FME ?Thanks.
Hello FME'ers,In your quiz this week you're up against another of our developers: Marc DeRosier.Marc works for the PVR team (you know what PVR stands for, right?) and is responsible for formats such as Shapefile and Excel. In other words, his are the formats that most users make use of! Talk about a responsible position! From a quick search of Slack, Marc's interest seem to be DnD and 3D Printing. If you have similar interests, hopefully you'll get to meet him at next year's FMEUC.As always, the quiz is here: https://demos-safe-software.fmecloud.com/fmeserver/apps/FMEQuiz
Good afternoon FME'ers,This week's Safe challenger was Annabelle Glass; Product Owner for FME Desktop as well as owner of a "noodle horse" (greyhound). So let's see what the answers for the quiz are, and how Annabelle did in comparison to you all...Answers1) What new functionality appears in the Tester in FME 2020.1The ability to select cached values in the expressionThe ability to convert a Tester into a TestFilterThe ability to test individual raster cellsThe ability to test Server internet speedThe ability to test cricket scoresThis one really is a game-changer for FME:FME's always been a model-based tool. You set up the model and then run the translation. But now... now we are starting to make use of the data inside the workspace authoring tool. So this is perhaps a bigger change to FME than you realize. But even by itself, this is very cool and expect to see cached values available in more appropriate locations in the future.Incidentally, re answer #5, cric
I have a network file which has 100KMs of road(line) segments. When I dissolve it based on name I find there are so many small segments in between which has different name. e.g. Asian Highway is of 100 KMs but after dissolve I get 90Kms Asian Highway & remaining 10 KMs(Not continuous) in between has different name(e.g. ABD Road, xyz Street etc) how to find these segments only?
Hello everyone,It's been so long since we had a Safer win against the users, but I have high hopes this week with your challenger Annabelle Glass.Annabelle works for our product management team. That team has five members to manage different parts of FME and Annabelle's responsibility is for FME Desktop. As Product Owner for FME Desktop she gets to review all of the requests for new functionality, and work with the development and business teams to decide what will go into the product. So if you want a specific new function in FME Desktop, you now know Annabelle is the person to be nice to!At home, Annabelle has a pet greyhound - or "noodle horse", as we say on the fun_safe_pets Slack channel.Anyway, here's the quiz link. Let's see how you can do: https://demos-safe-software.fmecloud.com/fmeserver/apps/FMEQuiz
Hey FME'ers,Here are this week's quiz results. You were up against Chris, a long-time developer at Safe. He knows anything you need to know about the mechanics of FME on different platforms, but did he know the sort of odd questions that I ask?Let's see...Answers1) The Workbench option to get rid of unwanted temporary files is called what?Purge Temporary FilesDelete Temporary FilesRemove Temporary FilesGet Rid of Temporary FilesErase Stuff That You Don't NeedI'm not sure why we chose the word "purge" but that is the answer:Chris' Answer: Purge Temporary Files (Correct)2) Safe Software recently became a partner of which company?SnowflakeWaterfallIceCubeEarthquakeGasbagIt was Snowflake, as per this blog article:Chris' Answer: Snowflake (Correct)3) Which one of these is a Workspace parameter, rather than an FME Option?R Interpreter ExecutableAutosave Workspace Before Running TranslationIgnore Failed ReadersDisplay Transformer VersionReplace Tabs with
Hello everyone,Here is today's quiz and this week your challenger is Chris Scrimgeour. Chris is a developer on the platforms team at Safe, once called the PB&J team because they work on Building FME on different Platforms, especially for Java-based formats (if I remember correctly). So Chris makes sure that FME performs the same, regardless of the platform, but I know he is a particular expert in Linux systems. I'm sure he's also a board game fan, because we once had a conversation about what FME: The Board Game would look like! He's worked with Safe for quite a long time now, so I'm expecting a good score from him! As always, the link is: https://demos-safe-software.fmecloud.com/fmeserver/apps/FMEQuiz
Hi folks,This week your challenger was Dennis from our Technical Publications team. Let's see if you could keep up your winning streak against the Safers:Answers1) Safe Software recently gained which accreditation?ISO 3103 (Preparation of Tea)ISO 18012 (IT Guidelines for Product Interoperability)ISO 21931 (Sustainability in Building Construction)ISO 27001 (Information Security Management)ISO 30190 (Digitally Recorded Media for Information Interchange)We are now certified for information security, which means all your data is safe with Safe!We aren't certified for making tea; at least not for official tasting purposes. The product interoperability standard is more for home appliances than spatial data and - although we are very environmentally conscious - we don't hold building construction sustainability qualifications (though the builders who constructed our new office may well have done). Finally, Digitally Recorded Media refers to BlueRay disks!2) How did Safe co-founder
