Can this be done in an automated way?
The XMLtemplater has a parameter to Validate Attribute/Templates Names, and when it's set to yes, the transformer has the red gear to indicate it's incomplete. But that's it.It would be nice if at the very least which template(s) contain the issues were highlighted.Even better would be if the attribute/template itself were highlighted.
Not a Mac-user myself, but a client says during the installation he needs to uncheck the "Needs to be approved by developer" or similar, to be able to install it. Also it seems to take many GB of RAM when doing the "verifying installation" part. Anyone can confirm or help add more details to this issue?
I found that the Table View in Data Inspector (FME 2017.0 beta build 17153) exposes list elements when the user attributes only consist of list attributes.I don't know whether it's an intentional behavior, but I think it would be definitely convenient if the Table View could expose list elements optionally. In the latest build, list elements cannot be exposed if the features have a regular (non-list) attribute.However, it would be too cluttered if all the list elements always were shown in the Table View Schema dialog. How about adding a functionality to the Table View Schema, so that the user can select and add list elements to the "Selected columns" list? The UI would be similar to this dialog used in Workbench.
***Note from Migration:*** Original Title was: Allow multiple engines to be configured but limit concurrent use to the number of engines licensed I have FME Server 64bit installed on one system and ArcGIS Server on another. I also need access to FME 32bit formats that are not supported by the single FME Server 64bit engine. As I only have 1 engine license but want to be able to work with all these formats I need 3 engine licenses... Local 64bit engine A 32bit engine for the 32bit only formats. Engine for the ArcGIS Server system to support the occasionally reading and writing to Geodatabase If FME Server was able to limit 1 engine to be used at any one time, and I could install FME Server engines on the other 2 systems... then I could remain with just the one FME Server Engine license. I don't often need to use the 32bit engine, and I only interact with the Geodatabase SDE occasionally. Currently I need to reconfigure FME Server each time I need to run jobs that require the other engine types. It would be great if I could configure FME Server with 3 engines (as above) and via job routing control what engine should run what job, but only ever run a single concurrent job (do to the limiting fact that I only have 1 engine license available).

The BoxConnector, currently available in FME 2017.0 Beta, allows users to easily download files from their Box.com account. it'd be helpful to make testing of text values more easy with a new operator that allows tests against an array/list of values with the functionality of the operator "contains". it'd save a lot of test clauses like shown in the example below

Following this question csv flushing it has been suggested that the FME CSV writer should auto-flush the writes following a manual cessation of the workspace.
When you delete a transformer, the connection to and from it are automatically joined. If you want to "disconnect" a transformer, you have to do that yourself (or delete and recreate).Wouldn't it be a simple feat to add a "Disconnect" option to the transformer context menu, releasing the transformer from its connections, which are automatically joined ? That would make moving transformers around in the workflow more easy and intuitive.
The "Recent workspaces" is a great shortcut, but when you want to open another non-recent, you're stuck with a standard Windows dialog.In the "FME Options" / "Default Paths" you can enter a list of "shared" folders. I think it would be a great idea to enhance the workspace file open dialog with shortcuts to these folders, including the standard "FME Workspaces" in Documents.It may be implemented as a Favorites list, but with the "official" shared folders added automatically.
Transformer Gallery is getting pretty huge now so efficient search is important. When I enter text in the search box in Transformer Gallery in FME Desktop a list of transformers is shown where text matches the name or description. Sometimes I might just want to search on the name and not the description. For example if I am trying to remember which transformer creates a geometry from number x, y attributes. I type "point" in the search, but I get 247 items returned which makes it hard to sift through. When searching I'd like to be able to target the search for Name, Description, Store or a combination of those. Just need some simple control like a drop down list or check boxes beside the search text box.

Eg. At present you get this I think it would be more useful if _fme_validation_message (string) contained “Attribute 'DevelopmentAddress' fails check for Has a Value', Attribute 'ApplicantSurname' fails check for Has a Value” The reason I ask is that I wish to create an error report that details all the issues that have occurred to each record in one line of the report. I also want a string that I can easily search and count to identify records that failed, certain elements.The list elements are very useful and I certainly want to see these kept, but if the above is implemented it would save a lot of work which now has to go into producing a one line message from the resulting list.
FME can be specified on the reader reads all subfolders with **.eg. C:Data***.shp, C:Data***.csvBut sumetimes, I don't need to read all the files in subfolders.If I have the following folder structure. If i set CSV reader dataset to C:Data***.csv.Case 1I want to read csv files in the [a1],[a1],[b1],[b1], But I don't want to read files in the [other] folder. I hope to add a [Max Hierarchies to Read] parameters, control the maximum number of the subfolders hierarchies. In this case, this parameter can be set to 3 .Case 2I just want to read csv files in the specified hierarchy folder. eg.[a1*.csv],[a2*.csv].I hope to add a [Specific Hierarchy to Read] parameters, control the number of specific subfolders hierarchy. In this case, this parameter can be set to 2 .
In FME 2015, when altering the drawing style displayed there is a checkbox which you can untick to restore to the original values. This feature appears to be missing in 2016, once displays have been overwritten there is no way to restore.

It's not possible to select the "Format String" from Attributes.
I use FME Desktop on a Mac and so some preferences are a bit different than with windows. One feature I love is the newly added ability to split your screen and have two apps fill up the whole screen (clicking and holding on the "full screen" or green button of a window and then choosing a second app to put next to it). When you do this there are obviously a fair number of icons in the "ribbon" of FME that are hidden due to the constrained screen real estate. Two of the most important buttons are hidden when the window is this size - add Reader and add Writer.I was wondering if perhaps this ribbon/top menu could be editable/customizable? Perhaps you could give us the ability to rearrange the order of these buttons? At a minimum perhaps the add reader/writer could be moved to the left somewhere so that when you are using FME in a smaller window you could still see them?Thanks for the consideration....certainly not hugely impactful or pressing but more of a "nice to have" feature.
We often have to trace our way through large workbenches that have a lot of useful annotations. It would be great to be able to search these user/summary annotations. This would be really useful for workbenches with FMEServerJobSubmitters/WorkspaceRunners as the workbench names are in annotations and would then be easier to locate.As a workaround we have been renaming transformers to end with job names as an easy way to find them but it seems like more people use annotations to store this information.

I recently had a project, where I developed a runner workspace using multiple WorkspaceRunners. The client then decided to implement the process using FME Server. I had to delete all WorkspaceRunners, add FMEServerJobSubmitters, and reset the parameters for each Job Submitter (Note: Each child workspace had parameters that had to be set to a user parameter within the runner workspace, so the default values set within the children workspaces were not applicable)If there was an option to convert a WorkspaceRunner (or group of WorkspaceRunners) to FMEServerJobSubmitters, with identical parameter values, that would be extremely helpful!Thank you!
