Is there a way to silently link a generic writer to a generic reader format?  Ie if the user selects a geotiff as input the output would be geotiff, if DTED then DTED.  I can publish the output format, but the user would still have to manually change the output format.

I am trying to load an FME Workspace that generates KML into Bing. I used to be able to do it, but now every time I try, I get the error, "Unable to load source file."  Strangely enough, when I put the URL into a browser, I get a KML returned. But, when I try the same exact URL in javascript for Bing maps integration, I get the "Unable to load source file" error each time.  Already tried and did not work: 1) Specifying ports in the URL (:80) to no avail. 2) I can load KML into Bing maps from an FME url ("http://fmeserver.com/fmedatastreaming/Demos/REST-kmlstreaming.fmw") but not from the server that FME is loaded on within my corporate intranet 3) I have tried running the web page on IIS directly (port 80) instead of using the WebMatrix IIS express (which uses port 7313) to host the pages; still get same error. 4)

Hi, Fairly simple one conceptually.  I have a string:  /geoserver/ows?TRANSPARENT=TRUE&SERVICE=WMS&VERSION=1.1.1&REQUEST=GetLegendGraphic&EXCEPTIONS=application%2Fvnd.ogc.se_xml&LAYER=ROAD_SECS_BY_CLASS_WSHIRE&FORMAT=image%2Fpng&SCALE=19999.99999369495  I want to explode it into its component attribute/value parts, so the above would become a bunch of attributes in FME (or a list I can explode into said attributes):  (attribute name -- attribute value) transparent -- TRUE service -- WMS version -- 1.1.1  etc.  This seems like a very obvious thing to want to do, does FME have a transformer to do it or am I going to have to do it a hard way? I can't seem to find a transformer for it.  Thanks, Jonathan

Hi, My reader is a shapefile which is transformed to ten kml files. Each folder Output is composed by 2 files, one file (included all hierarchical organisation folder: event type,country,year, month, event) and one placemark (included coordinate, styler...).    So I would like to merge all these kml files in a single one in keeping the structure I have (event type,country,year, month, event). Hi All,  I have a workbench which calls several Feature Classes from a Feature Dataset on an SDE.  Each month as property is processed, a new Feature Dataset is created on the SDE containing Feature Classes of the same names.  I have tried to set a parameter which prompts the user for the Feature Dataset location each time the workbench is run (Parameter) but all to no avail.  The closest I can seem to get is to point it to the SDE.  Has anyone encountered this problem before?  Know of a way around?  I have mainly been trying with a "Directory (Existing)" parameter, however in desperation have even tried a "Text" parameter!  Any assistance would be appreciated.

I try to convert an Oracle Spatial table to MapInfo .TAB. There is an MI_STYLE column. The spatial table looks all right in a MapInfo linked table.  In the workbench I ticked ' Apply MapInfo Symbology' and set the Style Column to MI_STYLE and Index Column to MI_PRINX (as they are in the database) n the Oracle Spatial Object Parameters panel.  However I get this eror message for all the objects and the style of all the objects in the output MapInfo table are the same (default): ORACLE Reader: Failed to parse MapInfo Symbology string.  String was `Pen( 2, 2, 32768 )  '  All the objects are lines and polylines.  Does anyone have an idea why FME cannot parse the symbols?

Hi all,         new to FME and would like to know: I have an excel sheet with a column of (Attribute id's) and a column of (lengths m). I also have a tab file that relates to the excel sheet and has the same Attribute id's. Can I change the spatial length of the polylines in the tab file to be the same as the lengths in the excel sheet??

Hi  I have an issue with using the Dynamic writer in FME Server 2013. It produces the zip file but its empty and the location is has written to on disc is also empty. When running the workbench it works but not when uploaded to server 2013.  I had no issue with the dynamic writer on 2012, is there a setting that i have missed out? Even the standard ''easytranslator'' does not produce and files so something to do wth the writer rather then the individual workbench  Regards

I'm using FME 2013 SP2 to translate GeoMedia parcel polygons into an ESRI File Geodatabase.  Many of my parcel polygons contain arc segments (curves) in their geometry.  When I write these polygons into my File Geodatabase, they are being stroked into numerous short line segments.  I don't have any ArcStroker transformers in my workspace, and the "Stroking Tolerance" setting in the Advanced Workspace Parameters is set to 0.  I'm using the GEODATABASE_FILE writer (ESRI Geodatabase, File Geodatabase ArcObjects) to write to my File Geodatabase.  I would switch to the FILEGDB writer (ESRI Geodatabase, File Geodatabase API) but then I can't specify an XML template file for building the geodatabase.  Is there some other setting I need to modify to get FME to stop stroking the arcs?

When converting OSTopo in Tab format into DXF or DWG for autocad I am having aweful problems with the final product.     When I open the file in the Universal Translator it looks apsolulty fine. However when my colleagues open it in AUTOCad certain areas are for better word, filled in, solid.  When investigating this I have come to the conclusion that the areas that are good are polylines but the other areas are Hatch. In QGIS the attribute table shows them as having a sub class of AcDbEntity: AcDbHatch and Text as SOLID. The good areas show the subclass as AcDbEntity:AcDbPolyline and no Text. This is not usful and causing all sorts of problems. I can not seem to reslove the issue, does any one have any ideas?

I really want to read and write the entities in the two kind of space including model and paper in CAD .However, in FME, I only can read those entity in paper space , it is badly dificult to write these entity to the paper space of dwg file. What I want is that some suggestions about how to creating paper space or transform the feaures from model space to paper space. It's no better that give me the FME model of solve it.  Thank you very much!

Hello,  I have a point.shp with items of X_coord and Y_coord, which is the centroid location. Eventually will have some 10,000's of images in folders and subfolders. I can do via QGIS, GDAL, excel, and DOS, but i'd like to see if FME has more streamlined process.  Trying to rename Images and Image world files recursively and with subfolders. for example;  existing file(s): 0805_IDA_STR233_001.ecw \\ .eww XY_concat: 1549962.5_16362527.5 Folder location: S:\\GO_GO_02\\CAD\\GIS\\GIS3\\Reports\\Ortho\\0805\\0805_IDA_STR233  New file(s) rename: 1549962.5_16362527.5_0805_001  I have seen some mentions of python scripts inside FME to perform the renaming, and this may work if there are no transformers available, but then might as well use the DOS RENAME feature.  Thoughts, RL 

Hello FME Universe,  I have created a project that consists of 7 different FME workspaces which have been published to FME server and are meant to be run as a chain via notifications (When WS1 is successful, run WS2, When WS2 is sucessfull, etc.). All of these workspaces have a seperate output DWG file that gets stored in a temporary folder where a final workspace combines all *.dwg files into one final output, places it on a shared drive and then through a python shutdown script, sends an email to me and deletes the output folder.  Now here is the problem, all of this works perfectly fine for me. But in order to make it universal so that my office can use it, I need to change certain parameters to have access to the FME system parameter $(FME_SECURITY_USER) (such as the temporary output folder so that it will read something like C:\\Temp\\$(FME_SECURITY_USER)\\*.dwg). Hi all, I have a citygml file. I read it in FME and what I need to do is to create point on the wall surface, then draw the line between selected points of the buildings and finally, intersect those lines with buildings in between to calculate the visibility for each building. But I have a crucial problem. I create the point using "pointcloudcombiner" transformer and what I have as the results are the points that are not located on the wall so for intersecting process I have intersection for all lines which are not true in reality.  Is there anyone who knows what is the problem of poincloudcombiner tranformer which creates points with a tiny distance to the wall surface?! That would be super great if I there is a solution for it.  I appreciate you help in advance. Best regards, Many

Hi,  I have a project which transforms one or more DGN v8 files from one coordinate system to another. The input files are specified by a user parameter and each input file results in one output file through the use of fanout where the input file name is used as the fanout attribute.  I use the value of the user parameter that specifies the input files to set the value of the V8 Seed File parameter. (I want the same header information after the transformation as before the transformation.)  However, I have not found a way where I can choose a different seed file per output file or change the seed file during the processing of the input files. Instead, the same input file is used as the seed file for all output files.  Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this?

Hello,  I am trying to run a workbench with both the reader and the writer in the AUTOCAD_OD file format. The problem is that when I set the Template File and run the workspace I get the following message:  Database conflict detected using the template file. See the documentation to avoid conflicts. Skipping the use of the template file.   So doing a little research I found this link: http://docs.safe.com/fme/2009/html/ReadersWriters/autocad_od_-_templatefile.htm Where it says that: Note: The template file will be skipped for AUTOCAD_OD in certain cases to avoid name conflicts. If the reader format is AUTOCAD_OD, and the AUTOCAD_OD writer is the first writer in a multiple writer translation, the template file will be skipped.     The problem is I need to use an AUTOCAD_OD for the reader a

I am trying to figure out a way to plot a series of points based off xy values in a table. The initial xy values is a lat long and the each of the other points is a set of xy offsets. So, I may have record 1 with.. -107.55 36.55 and the offset is .01 .01. So, the new xy for 1 would be +.01. Then I need it to goto the next record and use the new offset xy. Keeping in mind that the 2nd record has no spatial and needs to adopt the new xy from the last record. In the end the table will create a line based off the 1st starting point. Any thoughts on this? I've tried using the offsetter but without the previous coordinate attached to the offset it doesnt work. Any thoughts?

I am trying to read in an excel document and the frist row contains my column names. After reading in the document all I see in FME is Column 1, Column 2 and so on. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, other than when I use the Microsoft Excel ADO (deprecated) format the headers appear in FME, and when I use the newer excel format the headers do not appear in FME. I would appreciate any healp with this.  

is FME can be used to change name of file and folder and cut files in another? If you prefer I don't want that FME read, i want to use it basically because i have 100 folders to tidy.

I have a workbench that works perfect in FME 2012 SP4 but when I run the same one in FME 2013 SP1 (and 2014 beta), the number of features that are created are different. I have narrowed it down to the PointConnector and the way it is handling lists. I set the connection break to the parent_id field (which is the same for all of them) and set the list name to origSeq. Now in 2012, the point are connected and the original attributes that were present on the points are stored in the list as origSeq{0}. I then add a ListIndexer and set to 0 then remove the list and now the lines have the original attributes from the points. In 2013, the last point to get processed has its original attribute shifted to the index of 1. Anyone else seeing wierd behavior with the point connector?  I wanted to send this to the community before I send to Safe support.  Thanks, Sean
