My tasks to do with FME looks like this: - Start the workspace and choose a shapefile.(The schema is not known before) - Write the feature type with all attributes to a Filegeodatabase.  I can create a workspace with shapefile reader and dynamic fgd writer and a published parameter to get the input from the user. But my problem is the reader which needs some predefined features.  If i select a shape file I get the following "unexpected Input" error: "some features were read that did not match a reader feature type...."  Is there a way to define the feature at runtime out of the input? Something like a dynamic schema reader?  Cheers

Hi,  I'm trying to buffer a set of municipality polygons.The buffer is only needed on the external edges i.e. the ones that have a coastal edge and the buffer for each polygon musn't overlap with it's neighbour.  I've had a go with the buffer and AreaOnArea overlayer transformers but am getting stuck on how to resovle the overlaps. The below diagram is what I'm trying to acheive, starting with the green boundary polygons. Can anyone suggest an approach to this.    Many Thanks  James

Hi.  I have .csv file with name, lat and long attributes, (+ bunch of others).  Problem is, that gml writer doesnt write any <gn:geometry><gml:Point> tags. What am I missing? Some transformer?  Im new to this, so bear with me, please... Thank you.

When I bring lat/long data stored in SDE (NAD 83) into FME and run it through all of my transformers associated with doing an AreaOnAreaOverlayer the output appears to shift when I compare it to the original data in ArcMap. Here's a zoomed in area. The light purple color is the FME output. Any ideas why it would not maintain the exact integrity of the input data?   

The AreaOnAreaOverlayer is a great little tool but I have 2 issues when using it. You may know of a better way to do this.  Issue 1: I want my output to have the fields from all layers used. Similar to a join in ArcGIS. I can’t tell if I’m limiting that because my existing output file may not have all of the fields, so they are possibly being ignored. Could it be that I’m limiting it? Should the AreaOnAreaOverlayer automatically output all fields? (In my example below I’ve exploded the data to try and resolve my issue).  Issue 2: This concerns me a little. Do you know if you can do multiple AreaOnAreaOverlayer transformers (Like I illustrate below) in an FME job? I have to make 3 comparisons as it moves through the process. FYI: All of these layers are polygons. Hi there  I am using FME 2013 SP1 and have installed GeoMedia Professioanl 2013 after removing GeoMedia Pro 6.1. When I now run a workbech that was writting to a Geomedia access databease I get the following error  The program cannot start because CFCacheName.dll is missing from my computer.   I know this file was used by GMP 6.1 but was removed when I did the uninstall.  Any help would be greatly apprciated  Cheers  Ron

Hi,  I am reading data for MySQL and would like to prevent migrating the same data each time i run the workbence (it will be running as a scheduled task). To do this I have created an 'export' field in MySQL, with a default value of '0'. The workbench has a tester at the start, that will only allow a value of '0' through, and at the end of the workflow, I want to change all '0' values to '1'. I get an error when trying to run this writing back to the MySQL database.  My question is this, normally I would use the database updater transformer, but this will not write to MySQL, so how would I update the MySQL database and change these values.  Many thanks in advance.

Hello,  I have AutoCAD dwg layer feature which i'm converting into another coordinate system. What I'd like to do is to preserve rotation and height informations of input data in output dwg layer (since input contains labelling information that I don't want to resize and rotate in output).  I'm kinda new into FME so I apologise in advance if this is a silly question.  Thanks.

Hi, I have a custom coordinate system that I was confused how to translate it to the MyCoordSysDefs.fme for use in Safe Desktop. Hello all,  I'm trying to update an Access table of mine using generated GUIDs, lets say I have the following: Table_one PARENT_GUID,FIELD_GUID ABC123-EFT1,TEST23 ABC123-EFT1,TEST24 ABC123-EFT2,TEST23 ABC123-EFT2,TEST25  Also: Table_two PARENT_GUID,MEMO_FILLED_WITH_GUIDS ABC123-EFT1,#IF##AND##CONDITION#{TEST23}ISNULL#ENDCONDITION##THEN##DO#{TEST24}ISMANDATORY ABC123-EFT2,#IF##AND##CONDITION#{TEST23}ISNULL#ENDCONDITION##THEN##DO#{TEST25}ISMANDATORY  Now, due to some reasons, as you can see the FIELD_GUID is non-unique. I want to make it unique, and replace the FIELD_GUIDs with freshly replaced ones. I am looking to add vertices every X meters along a line (singlepart shapefile). Chopper seems to almost get me there, but it is making a multipart shapefile rather than working at a vertex level. Is modifying the abilities of the Chopper with another transformer the right approach?

I am doing a spatial join by intersect of points to areas (joining an attribute of the points to the attribute of areas). SpatialFilter does what I want exept when there is more than one point that intersects an area. The point attribute that is joined seems to be the max of the candidates but I would like the average.   I explored all the settings in SpatialFilter and there does not seem to be any parameter that sets the merge rules for this kind of situation. Do I need to bring in another transformer to join the average value rather than the default max value?  

I'm experimenting with incorporating Excel workflows into my FME workspaces and am stuck.  My workspace reads in a raster, then I get raster properties using RasterPropertiesExtractor, then I create a few more attributes with AttributeCreator, and finally I want to write to an Excel file with each attribute name in the first column and its value in the second column.  I tried many settings under "format parameters" in the excel writer, but with no luck. The main problems I am having is that 1) nothing seems to write to the excel cells no matter what settings I have under "format parameters", and 2) the image of the raster is inserted into the excel file, which I don't know how to stop.  I'm obviously missing a few things in my first attempt...    

Hi, Having some problem using SQLExecuter and SQLCreator with a Postgre/Postgre.  Error connecting to PostgreSQL database(host='**.***.**.***', port='5432', dbname='*******', user=postgre, password='***'): 'FATAL:  password authentication failed for user "postgre"  Its not really a authentication error since both the postgre and postgis reader and writer works fine with the same credentials. I can connect to the tables in the SQL transformers but when I hit run I get "authentication failed"  Anyone have an clue?  cheers Henrik Rinne   

I have a workspace that writes out one multipart shapefile (many rows in the dbf).  I'm looking to instead write out separate shapefiles that would correspond to each part (i.e. one shapefile for each row in the the multipart shapefile).  Not sure if my workspace requires additional transformer(s), modifying the writer parameter settings, or would involve both transformers and writer parameter settings.  I tryed experimenting with fanout settings in the the writer, but I haven't got anything to work.   

I noticed today that the dwg writer asks for a file name in a folder (unlike other writers that simply ask for a folder).  How can I force FME to call the resulting dwg by  the "feature type name" that I define in the name parameters of the writer? It seems that when I do define a name here, it still reverts to calling the output whatever I chose when I was first forced to chose a folder and file name of the writer.

I tried to find out more details about the syntax, but with no luck; I don't know what to call it when searching.  Is there full documentation to this syntax? Does it have a more formal name than "FME syntax"?    

Converting Areas, Ellipses and Arcs to lines,  I couldn’t figure out which transformation tools can convert Areas, Ellipses and Arcs to Lines such that they are collected in one ESRI feature class (polyline type).      Thank you   Best  Jamal

Error: “The spatial comparator received a feature with invalid geometry”  I have two CAD layers: Boundary (hatch type) and Roads (lines type). I would like to collect data every week and save one weeks data to column. How can I save data from week 1 to column 1, week 2 to column 2 etc? I have tried to set 'Start Column' as $(xlsx_start_col), but that does not work. I also tried to use $(xlsx_start_col) as 'Use Attribute Names As Column Positions, but but didn't work also.

Hello,  I am transforming GML exported from Caris Source Editor, into GML (with coded values being translated).  In my Reader I have three feature types, which share some, but not all attributes. I use several different transformers on all of the features, then use a FeatureTypeFilter to send the records to the correct Writer Features. There are also three of these - matching the reader features.  The attribute names in the writer are different from the reader, so the attributes must be connected manually. That works okay, and the values (e.g. xml_char type attributes) will transform and appear in the destination file. So far, so good.  However, as soon as I shut the workspace and re-open it, half the connections are lost. Seemingly, the ones that are kept are the ones that appear in all three of the reader features, any that only appear in one or two of the features are lost and need to be reconnected everytime.  *Pulling my hair out here!*  Any ideas?  Thanks Dan
