I have a batch written in python that logs into a ftp site, checks a directory for a file, validates whether the date is newer than the last newest file (for which it downloaded the zipped shapefiles) and then downloads the zip if it is new, otherwise it sends a logfile, exits and waits for another day.   I'd like to redo the python batch into FME.    I know I can add my ftp paramaters in the Add Source Data in FME, but is there a way to check whether the data is new (has not been added before) and if so download it, unzip it, read the files and update the geodatabase, otherwise exit and send a log file.   The ftp features are "undocumented according to the documentation" (ironic) in transformers like HTTP Fetcher, so not sure if that is the approach or just a simple workbench with the ftp coordinates in the add data parameters with some attached voodo.  I'm sure someone out there does the same thing and has some code to share... pretty please.  thx G.

Sorry if it's a simple question, but is it possible to specify that a Mapinfo file written from FME is 'read only' in the parameters?  Thanks in advance

I want to create a published user parameter to pick an existing ArcSDE version when using Prompt and Run.  I found this post (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/fmetalk/uL_N9j9vDW4) from 2011 and sounds like there wasn't an easy way to create a user parameter and was hoping this has changed.  Essentially I want the "Choose SDE Version" dialog to open up and the user select the version they want.  The screenshot below shows the dialog I'm looking to use for the user parameter (note I removed some info from the graphic).  How do I create a user parameter to get the "Choose SDE Version" prompt?    

The “clipper” tool fails to generate the expected result,  I have two layers: Boundary and Landuse that are living in CAD file.  1. The Boundary layer contains only one hatch object. This hatch is converted to polygon (area) successfully.           2. The Landuse layer contain multiple hatches (299). These hatches are converted to polygons (areas) successfully.         3. Now, I need to derive the roads by subtracting the landuse from the boundary. I was advised to use the “clipper” tool to do so (which is equivalent to the erase tool in the ArcGIS). Translating colors into values,  I have already highlighted this issue on other threads but I want to further elaborate it in a separate one.  In my work, each landuse is indicated by a hatch of particular color (in the AutoCAD). This color refers to a particular meaning as shown in the screenshot below.      As hatches are converted to polygons using the FME, I need to translate the color of each hatch into its meaning in Arabic and English and to store these values in two columns as shown in the screenshot below     Is SchemaMapper the best way to do so?    Thank you  Best  Jamal

“Clipper” fails to generate proper geometry in simple AutoCAD file,  I wanted to extract the Roads from the Boundary and Landuse  Mathematically Roads = Boundary – Landuse   The Boundary layer (contains 1 hatch only) is properly extracted    The Landuse (contains 4 hatches) is properly extracted too    Now the Roads is improperly extracted. Hi,  I'm new to FME so I hope I didn't miss a tutorial or a manual somewhere ;)  In a few words I'd like to export a CityGML to KML/Collada files in order to load these in GoogleEarth and other 3D clients. In details :  <= Input : A CityGML containing 300 buildings referencing textures. The general structure of my CityGML is :  <CityModel> <Building> <BuildingPart> <Appearance> <SurfaceDataMember>  ... </Appearance> <RoofSurface>  ...  <WallSurface>  ... </BuildingPart> </Building>  ... </CityModel>    => Output : Idealy I'd like to generate a collection of KMZ files containing KML + Collada + Textures. I have a workspace that I would like to share with others (who don't have FME) and was wondering whether it is possible to save / export the current workspace to an image file? I've managed this in a roundabout way but I had to print the workspace to a PDF, save the PDF out as an image and then crop it to size.  I then had the options to either distribute as an image or to re-PDF the cropped image. There must be an easier way I'm missing :)  

Is it possible to output labels for a 3D PDF?  I've created a 3D surface map of a reservoir, and I want to include height labels for the contours shown on the map. I've used the labeller transformer to create labels for the contours, and when I view the contours and labels in the inspector / visualiser within FME, they look fine, but when i write them to PDF, they get converted into point features.  Are labels for 3D PDF outputs possible?  Many thanks.  

I am trying to expose user name in autocad and the date that I run FME workbench (todays Date).  Is there a way to do this?

Hi there, I thought this seemed simple but i've become a bit stuck:  I have x features (many millions but im running a testset of 20k) and they all have an Parcel number. Each feature has an associated Category (one of eight) that is made up of 1 to 3 letters.  Now, each parcel number does not necessarily occur just once; there could be up to 9 instances of each parcel number and each instance may, or may not, have the same Category code.   I wanted to test the Category attribute - grouped by Parcel - to see if there was a complete set of Category duplicates ('Yes') or if the Category differed at all ('No') for a given parcel.   (Bonus qu: In some cases where there are 6 instances of a Parcel and there are 3 different categories, it is clear to see that the 3 different categories have been duplicated by mistake - because there are associated identical areas - does anyone know how to clean those out??)  thanks all

Hello,  I've recently upgraded to FME Server 2014 but am having problems publishing or downloading workbenches using FME Workbench 2014. It works fine when I use FME Workbench 2013.  The problem is a permissions issue where it says:  Login failed (Not Authorized) - Ensure that username and password fields are correct, and that user has sufficient privileges.  I don't know what the issue is as even using administrator gives this error and like I said if I go back to FME Workbench 2013 it works fine with the same username.  Which logs would I need to look in to help with this?  Thanks,  Peter.

Hi community,  I have links (with token) here that give me the opportunity to have GTFS data into realtime. So I could have bus realtime position or alerts by exemple : https://developers.google.com/transit/gtfs-realtime/  Would you know a method to read this data into FME?  My goal would be to read this data and update the last position into ArcGIS via FME. If you would know a way to use the GTFS-realtime into ArcGIS, I would be interested too. Honestly I don't know what to to with those links...  thank you

Hi Folks, Conceptually simple problem:  I have a collection of features which include two attributes each:  Unique_ID--- value 1  10 1  9 2  8 1  7 2  6 2  5 2  4 1  3 2  2 1  1  What I want to do is keep only one feature for each Unique_ID, and that feature should be the one with the highest Value. So in the above example, I'd only want to keep: 1  10 2  8  I can sort the values to get the above order of features (Sorter), but can't think of how to get FME to discard all features but the one with the largets value.  (I considered using a variable setter/getter with the Sampler, but the Sampler can't sample based off variables/attributes, only parameters.)  Any suggestions? Thanks!

FMEers,  I have a heaping helping of parcel data that I would like to query or filter by extent BEFORE FME reads every feature and builds its own index (which is what I perceive it is doing because it loads all million plus features before anything gets piped to anywhere)   I've set the min,max,x,y values in the Oracle Spatial reader, but it seems to completely ignore it.   I loaded the ALL_SDO_GEOM_METADATA table with the appropriate DIM_INFO and created spatial indexes.   FME still reads every feature.   I have Oracle Locator, but not Oracle Spatial Object.   Does the reader require the Spatial Object product to do filtering?  BUT--  When I use a subquery with SDO_ANYINTERACT in the select statement for a feature_type, THEN I get the filtering I want.   Trouble is, there are more than just parcels, so I need to add a subquery to every other feature in the workspace, querying to get the same MBR a gazillion times:  select * from my_geometry a join my_data b on a.ID=b.ID where b.da

Hi all,  I have a set of CSV files that I'm trying to parse, and they each contain several lines of metadata before the actual CSV-formatted data. I'd like to add the metadata as new attributes to each feature that I parse out using the CSV reader.  Currently I'm using a set of Python scripted parameters to open the file and parse out each line of metadata into its own parameter, then using the AttributeCreator transformer to create the new attributes and assign the parameter values. This works great except when the parameter contains a space, in which case the parameter is never assigned to the new attribute. I can work around it by having Python replace spaces with underscores, but I'd prefer to keep the spaces if possible.  Is there a better way to handle this kind of situation? Is this a bug that may be fixed in a newer version (I'm on 2013 SP1)?  Thanks!

Hi, as mentioned earlier, I am currently working with FME Base edition, which has certain limitations. I want to ask if somebody happen to know if parallel processing is available in FME Base edition. In the dialog, the parallel processing level may be set in range from "No parallelism" to "Extreme". However, for options other than "No parallelism" I sometimes get an error message saying  that TransporterFactory is not licensed. Does it have something to do with Base edition or am i doing wrong something else? The available documentation doesn't say anything about parellelism in FME Base. Thanks,  Jaro

HI,   I have     machine A : webservices/core running    machine B : Engine running  The services on both machine are running under the same domain account. Now, the machine A starts fine, but the FME engine on machine B doesn't start ( it would start and stop again ) .      Basically, i am not able to connect the FME engines to core.  -varun

Hello, How to combine several small processes in a linear manner such that the final output would include all the outputs from the different smaller processes? For Example:  there is one input file, -the attribute do not contain ($) -the attributes have no numbers and are purely alphabets. -the attributes have more than 15 characters so on...  On finding the outputs from each, how is it that I can get a combined output as some attribute values may satisfy one or more or even all of these problems.  Thank You, Sani.  

Is there any way to easily switch Oracle Spatial reader to read from another similar (ie. replica) table - than to rewrite to whole reader part ? This would ease my job a lot as I have several FME wb's with input data filtering (to reduce memory usage) from the same source data.  Rgrds, Esko

When trying to WRITE with the Esri Geodatabase (File Geodatabase API) to an existing file I get the following error:  Geodatabase Error (-2147024891): Access denied. FileGDB Writer: A feature could not be written.  Some issues:  1. The workspace does not FAIL, but completes.Even though the writer gives this error. There is no option on this writer to IGNORE FAILED WRITES: NO 2. Why is access denied? I have created a completely new FileGDB from within FME and I am trying to update this.
