I have a large dataset of line segments, which are both curved and straight. The problem is, some of the lines have hundreds (possibly thousands) of vertices. I would like to remove enough vertices without affecting the shape of the line. What is the best way to do this?

I am looking to see if there are ways to build your own custom translators in FME to convert precision agriculture machine data formats. For example, *.yld/*.fld files from Ag Leader, *.gsd/.gsy from John Deere to other outputs such as *.gdb, *.txt, etc.

Hi all.As it says in the title, all I need is to find an API (XML, not JSON) that will convert 1 easting and northing (OSGB) to latitude and longitude. I must not use macros.That's it.I can find API's that convert postcodes to Lat Lon, but nothing so far for East North.My spreadsheet (LibreOffice) has a chart with all the points displayed using using Eastings for X, and Northings for Y.It finds the max & min co-ords, adds them together and divides by 2 to give the centre of all the co-ords in the form 280827,716553 (centering, in this case, roughly east of Edinburgh).It would use the "central" East North to point the user to an Openstreetmap, which unfortunately wants Lat & Long in the format :https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=9/56.335159/-3.9475065  Nothing fancy, just one East North to one Lat Long. Doesn't even have to be that accurate.I don't suppose there's a formula that would do it...Anyone?

Hi,I have a dgn with faces which I want to convert to fme surfaces to be able to put texture on them. FME reads these faces form dgn as polygons. I tried to convert these polygons to faces with the FaceReplacer but a lot of the polygons failed because they are not planar. If the FaceReplacer works I plan to use the GeometryCoercer to convert the faces to surfaces. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?Thank you

I have a large polygon dataset on which I want to run an AreaOnAreaOverlayer. The transformer take a very long time to run because there are ~100,000 polygons and I don't have any way to group the polygons.It's occurred to me that I could enable parallel processing if I could group the polygons into subgroups that actually overlap each other. I can do this manually by lassoing the polygon groups by eye in ArcGIS and adding a unique value to a new field for each subgroup but I wondered if there was a clever way to automate this in FME?Below is the layer of polygons on which I want to run an AreaOnAreaOverlayer (I'm hoping to create a layer with no overlaps of all of the polygons intersected and attributed with a count of how many overlaps there are in each polygon)I imagine it will run faster if I can group them into layers that don't overlap at all, and then use that field in the "Group By" parameter. I'd be really grateful for any advice about any stage o

I have a Workspace running in FME Desktop 2017.1.1.1 on a server. The Workspace has a SQL Server Spatial Reader in it. The SQL Server database is on a different server which is in the same domain. The Reader is using a named SQL Server connection which is publicly visible. The connection uses SQL Server credentials to connect to the database (not Windows authentication). The connection is not encrypted.The Workspace runs fine when I'm logged in. It works as a scheduled task when running as me. But when I try to run it as a scheduled task using a different user (we have a Domain service account for running scheduled tasks), it fails. I've tried the registry fix suggested here:https://knowledge.safe.com/articles/32356/scheduling-software-doesnt-recognize-fme-connectio.htmlHowever I still get "Invalid authorization specification" in the log file. Hello,Main Query: I need to connect to an InterBase DB and it's not listed in the "Reader Gallery".I have installed the ODBC driver(s) for it. Can someone please advise how to go about creating this database connection possibly using the FDS file import? What about making use of an ODBC connection? I can already connect to this database using the IBProvider driver on a different server using a different application. In this particular case though, I must use FME to connect to this table to build a test Corporate Notification Service.Secondary Queries:I also noticed that Ingress was not listed as a "Reader Format" by default. Do you have any plan for implementing this? Has anyone managed to use FirmStep APIs in FME? Thanks,Sameer

Hi,I try to increment a field start at 1 and finish at the end of the file. I use a counter and it's work fin with 1 file. But i have 38 file. I need to start at 1 for each file. Do you have any suggestion? Thanks

I need to figure out a way of testing if a writer which is an SDE layer is verisioned or not. If it is versioned I do not want to truncate and fill if from the reader but if it is not versioned then I would want to truncate and fill.

Hi - Keen for some thoughts on this.I'm using an XMLTemplater to prepare a SOAP request and then an HTTPCaller to make the call to a web service. This is working well.The SOAP request takes a BatchNumber which is default 1.The service returns data in batches (if there are more than a 1000 records). With the first return a BatchCount is also returned which tells me how many batches there are in total.With this - If I re-call the service again and set BatchNumber to 2 in the SOAP request - then I'll get the next set and so on.The problem I have? How do I model this? I have the process running perfectly with 1 batch. Don't know how to effectively re-run the process based on the number of BatchNumbers.Any thoughts?Thanks

I would like to color the cells of my first column ID_WS based on the text value contained in a cell UPDATE_STATUS which basically contains the fme_db_operation value.I tried to apply the styling with ExcellFormater but it doesn't seem to be working in the output. Hello,I'm looking to read a feature class from a GDB (for testing purposes, but eventually this will be many feature classes so this process requires minimal manual handling) and add the date on the end YYMMDD and write back into the same GDB.E.G READ - "TEST"WRITE - "TEST190415"I've look at ways of doing this and not many seem to work. The closest I've got is to set the reader to expose the 'fme_basename' -> Date/Time Stamper -> Date/TimeConverter (adding _date column to attributes) -> Attribute Manager where I add a new attribute called "New_name", the value is @Value(fme_basename)@Value(_date)The write is set to Dynamic Schema Definition with the source as the GDB used and the Schema Definition Name set to "New_name". The output is the GDB name. When I edited this to just the _date, the output was the date.So the basename is being read as the gdb, and the date is being picked up in the new attribute. Hi there,I've never had to use the workspace runner before, and I'm kind of lost on how to set it up in the way I need it to function.So currently I have a very simple workspace that is essentially just a SQLCreator and an Excel sheet writer outputting some measurement summaries. My SQL statement connects to a PostGIS database, which contains a list of per-country tables. All these tables are named the same (i.e. "France_full_2019", "Ireland_full_2019") except for the country name.In this workbench I added a plain text parameter in the SQL lines instead of a specific country, so in this way, running the workbench, I can type "France" in the parameter window and get France's data. This all works perfectly fine and as intended, but of course limits me to 1 country at a time...This is where my request comes in:I want to know how to use the workspace runner to somehow input an entire list of countries and have it run the above mentioned workbench f

Hi I am trying to install FME Desktop 2019 onto an off network laptop Windows 10. Attached is the error I get during installation. I tried installing an older version of Desktop 2018 and this also gave me the same error. Then it rolls back and undoes the install.

I do not see a reader yet that can read a GeoJSON file in S3. Rather than needing to download it via the S3 transformer.We would like to use S3 as a spatial data hub so it can be used by many tools.

Hi, I'm creating a new feature service in ArcGIS Online and it works great except the writer coordinate system is ignored, I get the default web mercator (3857). Is a particular version of coordinate system required on the features or how do I get the writer one respected? I know my desired CRS is supported by AGOL. Thanks all.

Hello,I'm working on a project where we need to run a mean-shift algorithm on a very large raster dataset. We've been able to do it with the Orfeo Toolbox in QGIS, however we've had some pretty serious stability issues with QGIS itself, and therefore we would like to run the algorithm itself in FME Workbench instead. Does anyone know if it is possible to import the source code or a bat-file and run it as a transformer in FME? Or, does anyone know if there is a transformer that is capable of performing mean-shift algorithm on raster datasets?
