Hi,  I was wondering if there is a way to set up some kind of progress bar in my application which calls fmw file? Does FME know even approximately how much time he needs to finish? Can I use some other information to get estimated remaining time?  Thanks!

I have raster grid from which I want to extract contours. I know polyline contours are fairly easy to extract but what I need is the polygon contours.  Is there any way in FME to extract polygon contours out of raster grid?   Using Professional Edition 64/32 on Windows 7 64bit  

Hi, Seems like a simple thing but unable to get the desired output as yet. There are small segments of roads which have names. Need to join them between intersections and derive another field which would concatenate the Names of the all the small road segments which forms the joined Line. LineJoiner is being used to join, but how to fetch the attributes as a list (or concatenated field) between intersections? SpatialRelator, is not giving the desired result. Thanks in advance, Sani.

Hi,  Is there a way to see which writer stores the most data to disk because he needs to wait it's turn for writing? I suppose which writer is that, but I wolud like to check it.  Thanks!

Suppose I have some census data concerning primary language spoken at home. There would be many fields here but for the sake of simplicity, let's suppose there are only five: Cantonese, Chinese, Mandarin, Tagalog, and Tamil. Each would contain the number of households within a census unit where each language is spoken e.g. 30 for Cantonese, 150 for Chinese, 70 for Mandarin, 85 for Tagalog, and 2 for Tamil i.e. Chinese is the most common language spoken at home within this unit followed by Tagalog, Mandarin, Cantonese, and finally Tamil.  Now suppose I want to create three new fields which indicate the first, second, and third most common language spoken at home. Let's call these fields Top1, Top2, and Top3. In the example above the Top1 field value would be set to "Chinese", the Top2 field value would be set to "Tagalog", and the Top3 field value would be set to "Mandarin". Hi to everyone,  I am facing a problem with some sets of fiber and coaxial data that are stored in "Bentley Fiber V8i" product. I need to export this information to Smallworld PNI database. I am not sure if this product is supported by FME Desktop, indeed it doesn´t appear in the list of recognized formats.  But, since "Bentley Fiber V8i" product uses an Oracle database, it is possible to export data to DGN, and Microstation is fully supported, i ask myself if it could be possible to set up somehow the source enviroment in order to extract data from Bentley product using FME Desktop.  Had anyone the chance to work succesfully with Bentley "FIber V8i" and FME Desktop products? Do you think this task could have an easy solution? If I cannot read data from the first one using FME Desktop, I do not know how I could get the data features i need to load in Smallworld.  Thanks for you time and help!

Hi, I want to read from an Oracle-Database and some Shape-Files (same schema), doing an reprojection and then write to SQLite (dynamic writer). Just before the writer the features are okay, but in the destination file an attribute (ORIENTATION) now has a value of 9999999999999999600000000000000.0 which was originally 100.0. The reprojection does not take effect on this (when removing it, it still resets the value). Does anybody hav a hint on this?  Thanks in advance!

Hey all,  I've got a problem with running FME 2014 in Batch mode. I've filtered it out to be a problem with an AttributeCreator. Hi everyone,  I've just installed FME Desktop 2014 (64 bits and 32 bits - I always have both versions) and it all works well, but the first thing I noticed is that the application start/close and workbench loading time has dramatically increased. This is the case for both the 32 and 64 bits version and it also happens after I restarted my machine for instance. When I shutdown the application for instance, it takes up to 10 seconds for the application window to actually close. I never had problems with this before. Is there a way to get the username of the user who is running the workbench and populate this to an attribute?  Essentially I want to populate a feature class field named Last User with who ran the workbench.  All that I've been able to find is for FME Server - not for Desktop.

Is it possible to set the (default) FME options so that they propagate to all users on a pc?  We have a production machine with FME installed, and many different people will be longing on, I need to change the default paths, add shared resource directories and set some runtime options.  I don't want everybody to have to change these settings themselves when they first log on.

I would like to be able to send an email once a workspace has completed from FME Desktop.  I have tried PythonEmailer which failed and DirectTweeter which got stuck in a look and sent 56 messages and stalled the workspace.   Any other options?   Thanks seb

Hello  I want to transform tables and at the same time add unique ID-Fields to them with a counter-transformer. As identical tables are saved in different oracle users, I set up a workspace for one user, parameterized it and run it out of another workspace for all users, using the workspace runner. My problem now is to get the start_count of the counter dynamically, so that at the second run of the workspace runner the counter continues with the last value of the first run. I found this: http://fmepedia.safe.com/articles/How_To/Get-the-Start-Count-for-the-Counter-from-a-different-dataset, but what I have is not really a different dataset...Isn't there a possibility to save a value temporarily when using a workspace runner?  Thanks in advance Vera

Is it just me or did the Filename/Directory difference on input/output-files moving from Desktop to Server just get a little bit better on FME2013 SP2 vs FME2013 SP1 ?  Also I just discovered the File Copy WRITER - will for sure be handy!

Hi! On installing said version, build 13499, my Avast AV 8.0.1489, virusdef 130621-3, fired an alarm on the file spatialrelationshipfactory.dll and put it in the quarantine. Avast says the reason is Win32:Evo-gen [susp] The file date for the file was 2013-06-05 12:15:16  Has anybody else seen this? Most likely, the alarm is false.

FMEers,  I'm using FME2012 to create IGDS V7 symbols, from a resource file (.rsc), for example, font 85 OCT032 50 feet by 50 feet.  UORS / FT= 381  The output range block is not correct in MicroStation.  The y-extent is fine, but the x-extent is about 30% too short.     I believe this is causing FME not to calculate the correct lower-left origin of the symbol from the insertion point.  Text-nodes (type 7) appear to have the correct range block and so do "normal" text strings, type 17, font=0.    It appears that the symbols are the only things with a screwy range block.  Anyone know how FME does symbols?  Tips, tricks, suggestions for getting the right output?  Brad

Is it possible to upgrade our desktop to 2013 64bit from 2012 sp3 x86 even though it's installed on the same machine as a Server 2012 sp3 x86?  Just going through our upgrade to 2013 and 64bit.  We want to keep our server running while we upgrade.

Hi, I have a problem workspace that runs fine for most datasets but for one dataset it just stops, with no error indicated in the output log.  I've tried turning on the "Log debugging information" option in Workbench. I've also tried adding "FME_DEBUG BADNEWS FME_STACK_TRACE" to the workspace header but I'm still not getting any error output at the point the translation hangs, it just stops.  I've let the translation sit overnight, so it's not just a matter of me being impatient!  I assume it's some bad geometry but it's hard to know where to start looking, there's a fiar amount of data and the translation runs for 1/2 hour before dying.  Originally the translation looked like it was dying on a FeatureMerger so I exported the inputs to that transformer and then ran them through in a seperate translation but they ran through fine. I replaced the FeatureMerger with a Matcher in my original workspace and now it looks like it's failin

i have two readers( Old & New) with different attributes , now i need to compare the old one with new one & check for the  Added New Features , Modify Changed features & Retain old features . the change dector wil not work as there are no same features. So need a suggestion

Hey all,  I have a problem starting FME Desktop (2013 SP1) when connected to our network by VPN.  As workaround I checked out a license, this worked until I connected by VPN because I needed my mail / network directory...  Always worked like a charm until the 2013 versions.  Anyone a clue?  Thnx alot!  Niels 

Can FME 2012 be integrated with a 3rd party tool like ArcSight to help manage the logs? Or is there any other tool/options that FME be integrated with for the log files?

Has anyone noticed the efforts of the documentation team at Safe Software in improving the FME Desktop help with the nice automatic sync with the ToC?  The manage bookmarks,index, advanced search all add value to the documentation user.  Now most dialog boxes have Help buttons and in some cases "i" icon to let the user jump to the relevant section of the help (readers, writers, transformers,feature representation, reader/writer directives etc.)  Thank you Safe Software for your attention to nitty gritty details.  Regards SRG  

Hello FME Community,  I have been looking at FME for some time and have been contemplating putting together a purchase justification for management. So,  I have searched all over the website and done many Google searches, but I am having a hard time finding any concrete quantitative benefits or value statements to use in my justification.  As well, I could also benefit from some information on ownership stats. For example, I work for a city gov't in Vermont.  Does anyone know if other local cities own FME or if there are any other FME installs in Vermont ?  So long story short, I want to buy FME but need some ammunition to justify the purchase. My bosses have no idea what I do (or really care) as long as they get their maps.  So, any simple / high-level ammunition would be greatly appreciated.
