writing ESRI Oracle SDE date attributes (date and month are reversed)

Hi, An easy one, I hope, for the ESRI experts :) I am writing a date attribute to an Oracle SDE feature class but the month and day are reversed. The feature class is a new table created via FME. So 20121128 appears as 11/28/2012 and not 28/11/2012 e.g. US and not European format I tried the DateFormatter without success. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Annette

MapInfo Seamless table

Hello All, I have a large number of MapInfo TAB files that are currently used in MapInfo Workspaces to create a bunch of static maps. I would like to create an automated process to clean up some of this data and then combine the TAB files into a seamless table to replace each workspace. I could write a MapBasic program for this, but some of what I want to do to the TABs is probably easier within FME. Except I'm not sure if it is possible to create a seamless table within FME. Has anyone attempted to create a MapInfo Seamless table (TAB file that references a number of other TAB files) within FME desktop?

Database connection confiurations

I was wondering I do a lot of ad hoc workbenches to various databases and geodatabases. Is it currently possible (if not I would like to suggest it as an improvement) save the conection properities for teh databases I frequently. This would be a huge time saver and save on problems with typos.

Writing empty MapInfo-files

Every night I update a bunch of MapInfo Tab-files, using FME Desctop. My Issue: When no features enter the writer to a specific feature type, no update is made to that file. The old content remains. No features to the writer, indicates that I need the resulting file to be empty, rather than containing yesterdays data. The MapInfo write has no "Truncate first" option, witch would help me out here...

Statistic calculator working with dates

Hi guys, I'm interested in having a statisatic calculator that would work with dates. I'd like to return the most recent date of an object set "group by" tile_ID. Is there a way I could do this without a python caller? Cheers, JP

Warning about Dissolver (only version 10) FME2013

Just a warning to those of you using Dissolver (version 10), it is broken - so the dissolved output is "inversed" in overlapping areas. using the old Dissolver (version 8). is OK. Thats for any geometry (even simple bounding boxes). As a side note a thing to consider at Safe might be adding an "auto-update" procedure in all versions (even BETAs). This way it would be possible for Safe to notify an individual installation at runtime and give a pop-up with for instance the following: "There is a newer version of FME available. Critical fixes includes: - Error in Dissolver: fixed - Bufferer: fixed For other improvements look at http://downloads.safe.com/fme/whatsnew.txt Do you want to update to this new version? " Of course you would need to only update the required modules (not a complete install) - however it would be very easy for you to publish crucial updates.

DWG READER- PRESENCE OF PRJ IN THE SAME DIRECTORY WITH THE SAME NAME AS DWG-PROJECTION BEING READ FROM PRJ FILE

I accidentally noticed that FME automatically reads the projection system for DWG files when a PRJ file (created using ArcGIS) with the same name as the DWG file is present in the same folder. Initially I thought that FME can now read projection system from DWG files. But when noticed that the projection system was incorrect and further investigating the issue, found FME reading the projection system from a PRJ file which is part of SHP files created using ArcGIS with the same file name as the DWG. This was notice is FME 2012 SP4 as well the latest BETA build of FME 2013. Has anyone noticed this problem? However this is not happening with DGN files for me! Regards SRG

Combined loop + attribute assignment question

I have a large number of roads that I need to treat on a per community basis. My programming paradigm is heavily influenced by the tools I used before (a mix of matlab, python and perl), and so I'm pretty quick to see for-each-loops as the logical way to proceed. The problem: I'm doing some simple geometric operations to extract some metadata about the roads of each community. Those operations include aggregating, finding a common midpoint and so on - basic stuff I've implemented and tested - but I've yet to find a dynamical way to add an attribute with the ID for that particular community. For me, the next step is to iterate over each community, reading and treating data separately for each community polygon. I see I need to create custom transformers to do that. I'm happy with getting a little more hands-on with custom transformers - but I would appreciate a little guidelines on the way. In my head the solution would look like this: 1) Read all polygons th

This transformer does everything I need it to - I have multiple overlapping polygons in a MapInfo Table, and I need to accumulate statistics on the overlapping areas, from each of the component polygons. I can do this using the List Name option in the transformer and I get an expanded attribute list for the Writer showing all of the attribute data - I can see the results ok within an FME Visualiser - However when I try and output the data to MapInfo none of the attribute data is populated. Re-combining polygons as rings in a polygon

I have input polygons that consist of multiple disconnected rings (as islands) and I am generalising them and removing islands of less than a certain area. I am using Generalizer, DonutHoleExtractor, SpatialFilter and DonutBuilder to do this and it works well, but the resulting layers are now individual polygons. I want to combine the polygons as rings in single polygons based on a unique ID. Can someone recommend a method of doing this please?

Using SchemaMapper to Map Data into an Existing Schema

Hi, I'm able to figure out how to map a single feature coming from one schema to an existing feature of another schema using the Schema Mapper tranformer. The problem that I'm having is how to map the rest of the features using the same SchemaMapper transformer without having to create one for each feature that are within the two schemas. Here is schematic of what i'm trying to do. Note that the Out feature already exist in the output schema. Removing FFS extended dataset files from the directory '' left no remaining datasets likely due to naming conflicts. Try renaming the source dataset files to avoid names like <basename>_<number>.ffs to avoid conflicts. Note that the FFS reader is sensitive to all files in the source directory and not just the selected files Not sure how to solve this. I have split the 500 files into 5 subfolders with 100 files in each, and that seems to solve the problem. Is the problem the number of files selected per Reader? If the Reader could not open all the files it should abort - and not let me "think" that all files are selected. Not easy to discover when you merge many files into one large one.

How do I change/or add a Palette Name of a raster?

writing features to a postgis database after using FeatureMerger

I want to merge a shapefile and a dbf file joined by an attribute and write them to a postgis database. Is FeatureMerger the way to do this? How do I extract the merged feature information (i.e. all the merged attribute metadata) and provide it to the postgis writer so that the correct table structure is created for the merged feature type?

How can I View my stored data on Oracle with FME Universal Viewer 32 bits

Hello Im trying to View my stored data on Oracle with FME Universal Viewer 32 bits. I have installed Oracle_Client 11g 32 bits on my PC. Also I have Win 7 64 bits When Im Trying to did it, it sent this message: Error connecting to Oracle database: message was `ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied'. (serverType=`ORACLE8i', serverName=`orcl', userName=`itu', password=`***', dbname=`') Failed to open database with username='itu', retrying using uppercase username Environment variable ORACLE_HOME is not set.

Adding centroid fields

I want to compute a centroid for polygons then add the X and Y fields to my features. I could not find any way of doing this in FME desktop as I have it. Can anyone suggest how I might do this please?

FME truncate fails

Is there a known issue concerning FME (in my case 2011SP4 and 2012SP3 aswell) about not being able to truncate Oracle base, stating: Truncating table `EESTITOPO.HYB_VOOLUVEED_75T_J'... Failed to truncate table `EESTITOPO.HYB_VOOLUVEED_75T_J'. Table may not exist However, when truncate is defined in the "SQL To Execute Before Translation" under advanced writer properties, then truncate operation succeeds. FME 2013 DWG additions

Hi, I was going throught the whats great in FME 2013 and came across this: "Added new template files to (FME_HOME)\\autocad directory, both of which have AutoCAD standard line type definitions loaded in them (PR#36706)" Does it means that FME 2013 will have the ability to create line types other that continous? as is the case with FME 2012. Also will I be a able to set the dwg line type from input attributes stating the desired line type? That would be great! Cheers, Itay

Dynamic Reader Based on Today's Date

Hi, is there any way we can bring in an input file based on today's date? For example, if we save a file from a database every day, and today's file is called "20121114_Switch_Data.xlsx" can we have a default input (reader) to prepend today's date and grab the latest file?

Trace a single feature through a workbench

Hi, I'm trying to debug a workbench and was and was wondering if it's possible to see the flow of one particular record. About 85k records (all with a unique ID) go into the workbench and flow through a network of transformers before all coming out via a single writer. I have identified several features that have been processed incorrectly but in order to work out what went wrong I need to work out the path they took through the transformers. Any suggestions on how to achieve this? Thanks

FME justification

Hello FME Community, I have been looking at FME for some time and have been contemplating putting together a purchase justification for management. So, I have searched all over the website and done many Google searches, but I am having a hard time finding any concrete quantitative benefits or value statements to use in my justification. As well, I could also benefit from some information on ownership stats. For example, I work for a city gov't in Vermont. Does anyone know if other local cities own FME or if there are any other FME installs in Vermont ? So long story short, I want to buy FME but need some ammunition to justify the purchase. My bosses have no idea what I do (or really care) as long as they get their maps. So, any simple / high-level ammunition would be greatly appreciated.

Custom transformer dynamic attribute name

What is the best way to specify the output attribute name on a custom transformer? I can add a paramter , but the logical transformer (AttributeCreator) let's me link the value of an attribute easily enough, but not it's name.

coordinateConcatenator bug?

Hi, is there a bug in the ouput of the coordinateConcatenator ?: last 2 couple of coordinates are glued together in the output string attribute whatever the delimiter is. Other coordinates pair (or trio) are well delimited though. This is very annoying for further pyhton operation (seems awckward to put a test or an error checking for something that's aobviously a bug). On FME 2013 beta but also 2012. Did anybody else seen this ? Thanks

Can you have a Step by Step manual that explains How can I migrate data (Intergraph Geomedia Warehouses) using FME to Oracle database (Oracle Spatial Object) ?
