Writing CityGML with custom ADE... I just cannot get it to work.. :(

So.. someone in my team wrote this custom ADE (see all the way below). I also have an example CityGML of how my output should look like. It shouldn't be so hard now to write a proper CityGML, right? Well, I'm getting quite desperate here...  An example: for each building it should add this XML code to the feature:  <bldg:Building gml:id="building_39">  <pan:project name="Test Project"> <pan:scenario name="Scenario 1"> <pan:doubleAttribute name="TestAttribute1"> <gen:value>43.5</gen:value> </pan:doubleAttribute> <pan:intAttribute name="TestAttribute2"> <gen:value>5</gen:value> </pan:intAttribute> </pan:scenario> </pan:project> ... etc. (geometry stuff)   So, a feature can take part in 1~n projects and each project can consist of 1~n scenarios (bold). Each scenario contains 0~n generic attributes (double, string, integer), as shown

ASCII Grid to multiple XYZ attribute CSV file

Hi,  I'm trying to convert mulitple ASCII grids to a single CSV file in the following format:  X, Y, Z, Z, Z, Z....etc.... where the Z is rainfall data over time.  I can capture the XYZ info, but I don't know how to write out multiple Z value attributes while keeping the XY as a constant into a single CSV file.  Any ideas on how to solve this are welcome.  Thanks Ricky (newbie!)

Parameter behavior for custom transformers in FME 2013

I was curious if the behavior of published parameters from custom transformers changed in FME 2013, but I couldn't find the answer yet. Maybe someone can tell? In his 'FME Evangelist' blog, Mark Ireland once wrote the following:    "Published parameters can be a little confusing too. Normally, once a parameter is published the end-user is prompted for a value at run-time. In custom transformers, this is a little different. When a parameter is published in a custom transformer, you can look at it as prompting the main workspace for a value; i.e. it appears on the parameters dialog for the custom transformer, but it doesn’t get used as a prompt at run-time. To prompt for a custom transformer value at run-time, you first create a published parameter within the custom transformer, then - back in the main canvas - locate that parameter in the Navigator window and publish it again."    For as long as I can recall, this is always how it worked and I never liked

Cleaning up topology

Hi,  After an AreaOnAreaOverlayer operation, many small but very long polygons are generated in an output File GDB. There are topological errors also. Some polygons even have a negative area (seenfrom ArcGIS) and the calculation of the surface with FME fails. I would like to remove these polygons. It seems that the SliverRemover helps but it takes time. The Snapper and the AnchoredSnapper do not help, as the small polygons are very long. I do not have the MRF2D tools. My question is: does FME have another tool for that. In ArcGIS the "Integrate" tool works fine (http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//00170000002s000000)  Thanks for your help.

Chop a point cloud with buffererd overlap

I need to cut a large-ish point cloud into sheets for processing, with a healthy buffer (so every sheet overlaps by ~100 feet with its neighbors.  I have the cloud (.laz), and I have the sheets (shapes in a .dgn).  My output is an ASCII xyz style file, one per sheet.  I can use the Bufferer to add the overlap to the shapes, but then how can I render the points into each file?  If there were no buffer, I'd use a PointOnAreaOverlayer to move the sheet name from the area to the point, then fanout my output by that attribute.  But that won't work with overlap, because one point will get a list of sheet names.  I can't assume the number of sheets or their relative positions will be constant, so I need a procedural method to do this.  Any ideas?

Split polygon by line

I feel like I'm missing something obvious.  What is the best way to split (cut) a set of polygons with  some lines?  If I use the Intersector followed by the AreaBuilder I end up with a lot of additional areas created by the lines, and I have a few hoops to jump through to get the attributes back.

dwg to S-57

Hi All,  I work in an office hydrographic and my work is to create electronic navigation charts and my problem is transformation from dxf/dwg into S-57 with FME.  I could not transform a dwg in S-57. I tried to make this transformation from bathymetric polylines - dxf/dwg format into S-57-lines format. The end result should be an S-57 lines with some attributes about depth.  Thanks

Intergraph GeoMedia SQL Server Warehouse

Dear FME People,   I've recently changed jobs to Intergraph, hoping to continue working with FME. For that, I will need the 'Intergraph GeoMedia SQL Server Warehouse' writer, which doesn't seem to be invincible.  However, here is my first issue. I read *.shp data, do some Attribute Renaming and write to the SQL Server. Everything goes well, according to the FME log file. Nevertheless, no table is created. Since FME connects to the database, this seems a bit odd to me. What I then did, was creating the table with Management Studio to check whether the DROP, defined in the Warehouse writer, gets executed or not. It doesn't seem the case. Yet, this is copied from the FME Workbench log file:     Successfully connected to source dataset 'MapStaging_Gent'   GeoMedia SQL Writer: Dropped table `RoadNetwork4BCN_GeoMedia'    Although the log file states that the table is dropped, it is still there after the Workbench has finished. Script Generation for Translation

Hi Folks,  I am new to the FME Desktop. I would like to ask if there is a way to export / generate the script after I have defined the detail of my translation in workbench? For instance, the script of the parameter, reader & writer configuration and the transformer used. Is there any method to achieve this?  If yes, then I can customize it based on the generated sample script.  Thanks in advance for your advices.

Volume Calculation

Hello FME Team, I was wondering if anybody has calcuated Volume of a pipe before? I have a Water network of pipes in GeoMedia and would like to calcuate the volume and output it as a new attribute on the existing feature class.  I have Pipe Length & Pipe Size to play with for attributes.  Thoughts?

DWG to ESRI 10.1 File Geodatabase

I am doing a simple convert from an AutoCAD 2011 dwg file to an ESRI 10.1 File Geodatabase.  I have an FME 2013 Workspace with the input data (DWG) linked to the output dataset (fGdb).  The Reader for CAD uses all defaults for Parameters and is generating a single merged feature type.  The Writer uses the File Geodatabase API and is set to produce Dynamic Schema. Projections are set to source (Nad27UTM15N) The transformation completes without errors. I then open ArcCatalog 10.1 to view the created Geodatabase and see all features are there.  Clicking on a feature to preview it is where the problems start.  Any attempt to Identify the feature will come back with nothing found.  Any attempt to zoom in causes the graphics to disappear.  The features do not display in ArcMAp either. Teir Attribute table contains the Shape and ObjectID fields only.  Can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve this problem??  [OS: details Win 7 x64, ArcGIS Desktop Advanced (ArcInfo) 10.1 build 3035

FileGDB Default value inserted as ' ' (space) instead of default

Hi, I am converting data from one filegdb to another using a schema mapper. The problem i am getting is there are certain attribute defined in target GDB which are not null and has some default values, these attributes are not in mapping schema but when I run the workbench value gets inserted is ' '(space) instead of the FileGDB's default value. Am i missing anything here?  Appreciate your help. Thanks for your help in advance. Zubair

Writing to a dwg block hyperlink attribute

Hi,  I want to create a .dwg with clickable hyperlinks from a .shp file, however I can't see an attribute I can expose on the .dwg writer that can take the hyperlink attribute from the shp file.  Does anyone know is this is possible?  Also, bit of a secondary question (that may make the first one invalid!) , but could I write this straight to an interactive PDF?  (I know I can create it via (Acrobat / AutoCAD).  I'm not very familair with FME's PDF capability.  Thanks.

Arithmatic in Tester transformer, syntax? wrong approach?

Hello...  So I trying to run a multi criteria test on some data.  the first 2 criteria and simple column = xxxxxxxxx  The third criteria is a arithmatic query that I use in arcgis.  Here is what I though might work:  =((@Value(SWIFT_LOAD)-@Value(Permit_License_Date))<30)  I am returning no passing values and I know for a fact due to my arcgis map that there a a few hundred returns.  Any ideas? Shpould I not use the tester to peform this part?  I am very new to FME (a few weeks)  Thanks!

Writer - an Access database with special characters in field names causing issues

My workspace's goal is to import the contents ot two old Access databases into a new, differently structured Access database.  The new database has four fields that have forward slashes in the field names. These are being interpreted as underscores by FME.  When I run the workspace, I get an error indicating that my new database doesn't have the field `Esmt_ppty_lease Date' (the first field it runs across with an underscore I guess) -which of course it doesn't.  What's the simplest solution here?  I'd rather not have to rename the four fields in the new Access database as that has other implications.

Merfing fields of records in Same Table

Hi All,  I have two different tables(A & B) in SDE, which are having a common field to maintain relationship between the tables. I have requirement like finding the relation records in table B with respect to the records in table A. In table B it may contains one or more (max 4) records will available. After finding the relationship reords, then merge the fields of relation records to record in table A.  Can anyone please suggest of how to approach my requirement.  Thanks, Seshu

Can FME Desktop install on windowsVM which sits on Linux box

Dear All,  Need your assistance.....  We run our FME Desktop 2012 64-bit PC using Safe Floating Licence. Due to the amount the data which we process on daily basis, it takes days to complete and the FME process used up all CUPs.  Going forward we are building Application Server (not FME Server) to run FME and other geo-spatial applications.  But the problem is: -           App Server will be built on Linux RedHat 64-Bit and as per my research FME Workbench is not available on Linux. http://www.safe.com/fme/fme-technology/fme-desktop/tech-specs/  So, we were thinking, we will configure windows VM on Linux and install all the FME components but not 100% sure this will work or not.  Could someone please share some knowledge or advise that would it be good to run FME on windowsVM which sits on Linux box.  Thanks in advance for your help. Regards Suvo

Changes to geometry comparisons in 2013?

I have a workbench developed in FME2012 which, given a set of lines representing a river network, generates a parallel line to the left and right of each bit of river.  My workflow is to use the normal polygon buffering on each river line to generate the geometries for each river line separately. Then I need to get rid of the bits that are inside the "overall" buffer so I intersect the buffer outlines with one another and use a spatial filter to remove the intersected parts that are "within" the dissolved overall buffer polygon itself.   This works absolutely fine in FME 2012. In FME 2013, at seemingly random locations it fails in that some of the buffer outline portions are found by the spatial filter to be inside the buffer polygon. These are the SAME geometry!   I have noticed similar problems on other occasions. Given a general workflow of take a feature, do something with it, match the unaffected portion of the geometry back to the original - this generally see

FME Executing system commands

Hi All,  I have a FME Workbench which runs every night via a scheduled Windows process which looks at a MapInfo TAB file which has been edited during that day by users.  It QAs the data and then spits out the "good" elements to a Production area for use by the orginisation the following day.  This workbench works fine.  We can run it manually and the process executes perfectly.  The problem is that over the past few nights the process has failed to execute because it fails to read the TAB from the editing directory.  We have checked the system logs and it seems that (different) users have left their computers on overnight with the file open...  My question is (finally) can FME execute any "system" commands?  We obviously want to kick any users off who have a lock on these files and I just wanted to know if we can write it into the workbench.  There is some talk in the office here about using some Python to do it, but I have only dabbled in it and am not really sure

Dynamic writer user attributes

I have a workspace that writes out an excel file using a dynamic writer, to which I have added some user attributes.  The output puts the user attributes at the end of the dynamic schema attributes, ie, in the last columns of each excel worksheet.  Is there a way to control the order of these field using a dynamic writer?
