Date is being set to null with AttributeRenamer

Does an AttributeRenamer not handle attributes with a Date data type very well?   I have a DATECREATED attribute on an SDE table.  The SDE table, Dampers, is the source data set and destination data set (both are using the ESRI ARCSDE30 format).  I’m updating some fields in the Dampers table by getting values using a joiner from another SQL Server table.  I have a DATEMODIFIED attribute that I’m setting with a TimeStamper field.  So I’m using the fme_db_operation = UPDATE in an AttributeRenamer.   And I don’t want the DATECREATED attribute value to change. The format is YYYYMMDD.  But it’s being set to null when I run the translation.   I’ve been trying a combination of things and can’t seem to get the DATECREATED attribute to save its value.  I've used the Feature Inspector to step through and the attribute disappears after the AttributeRenamer.  I must be going at this in the wrong way.  How do I keep an attribute value the same when i'm updating other attributes?

determining minimum distance in point cloud (LAS files)

Hello all, I am confronted with a task in which i have 100's of LAS files in which i need to find minimum distances from part of the data to another.  For example, in one LAS file i have trees, structures, powerlines water pipes etc (standard urban environment) is there a way i can find out the minimum distance between say the powerline and the nearest tree? OR adversely have a limit to say no trees within 5m of powerline and 10m water pipes and have FME spit out the a result set of trees/structures too close to the powerlines/water pipes etc?   any help would be appreciated. cheers

Traceback error with Statistics Calculator

Add attribute to parcels from irregular area overlay

I have a layer that is of scenic hillsides and I need to add an attribute indicating that to the parcels that are touched by the area.  When I used the AreaonAreaOverlayer, it clipped the parcels to match the scenic hillside area.  I need a way to add an attribute to the required parcels without changing their shape.

Using regular expressions in the Source FME Feature Store Files Parameter

I am trying to use wildcards/regular expressions to identify multiple FFS files to read through one FFS reader in the FME workbench.  If I use something like "C:\\SomeDir\\*83.ffs", the FFS reader reads all files that end in 83.ffs in the SomeDir directory.  I can even use "C:\\SomeDir\\*8[345].ffs" to read all files that end in 83.ffs, 84.ffs, or 85.ffs.  Now I want to read all files that end in 11.ffs or 83.ffs.  When I try "C:\\SomeDir\\*(11|83).ffs", I get an error message "Invalid FFS dataset directory 'C:\\SomeDir\\*(11|83).ffs'".  I have also tried a comma, semi-colon, or space separated list of filenames to no avail.  Is this possible or do I need to create two FFS readers?  Any suggestions would be appreciated!  I'm using FME Desktop 2013 SP1.  Steve

MRF2DCleaner and CAD data cleanup

Hi,  I'm working with some CAD data that was recently converted to GIS and I'm attempting to clean up the data using a trail version of the MRF2DCleaner.  I've ran through the process a couple of times but I'm still not getting the desired output.  Does this tool need to read the original CAD data for it to be fully functional or will it operate properly reading GIS data?  Also, the first couple of times I ran the transformer it failed to complete referencing an error regarding short elements.  I went back into the original data and deleted out any features less than a half foot in length (with the "Cleaning Tolerance" set to 25 feet) but then it kept giving me the same error saying, "Set 'Delete Short Geometries' to 'Yes' with 'Cleaning Tolerance' no less than 0.236845."  Since several short geometries do exist that are longer than the length specified, is there any reason it is forcing me to set this parameter?  Lastly, I&#3

Custom Reusable Validation

I need to perform a validation check on particular columns of all the participating tables in a Oracle database and log the validation errors in another logger table. I want to make a generic custom transformer for this so that it can be reused in several workbenches.  All other workbenches will import the custom transformer, connect the reader and specify the feature attributes that needs to be checked (e.g. null check). If the passing features have null values for the specified attributes, it will be logger in a logger table. Is this possible in FME? Any pointers conforming to best performance will be helpful.

SQLExecutor Stored Procedure

Can we use a SQLExecutor to run a stored procedure which will accept ref cursor and then process the entire recordset in the stored procedure? Can we pass the entire record set to a stored procedure or FME will process it one row at a time?  Also how can we fetch the list of column names from the passing features and store them into a attribute list?

FME Workbench 2007

My company will not move forward on using FME Workbench 2013 until it is confirmed as working well with our newest version of GE Smallworld.  I'm always converting geometry data from AutoCAD Map into GE Smallworld data. I have to save the ACAD file as a version 2000 so Smallworld can read it. Can anybody tell me if there is a FME Workbench 2007 manual that I can find so I can better understand how the transfer of data from ACAD to GE Smallworld is setup?  I would appreciate this greatly for the help! Paul21,

Trouble with StringConcatenator.

Hi all. I need to put values of all attributes from source table to one field in target table. Of course, i used StringConcatenator and everything works great. But problem is that i need to put only attributes with values. For example i have table with fields CITY, STREET, BLD_NUMBER:          CITY         STREET    BLD_NUMBER 1. New-York   42 street               150 2.    Albany           null                    17  and strings wich i got [CITY:New-York, STREET:42 street, BLD_NUMBER:150] - ok, that's what i need [CITY:Albany, STREET:, BLD_NUMBER:150] - but i need string like this [CITY:Albany, BLD_NUMBER:150]  the question is how to get what i need? Thanks for answers

Hold transformer untill writer is done

Hi,  Is it possible to prevent a transformer from starting until a certain writer is done? This needs to be used in following case: 1. Read data 2. Process data 3. Write data 4. Read written data in same workbench and continue processing  Working with a workbench with workspacerunners performing the actions seperately and consecutively won't work as this needs to be executed on an FME Server with one engine (I noticed the workspacerunner searches for a second engine). Secondly I was thinking to do the writing with an SQLexecutor instead of a writer. But it's a bit tricky to compose the writing statement everytime correctly and I was not able yet to keep the geometry when writing.  Any suggestions on this?  thx, R.

Convert/merge multiple TAB files by name per directory to SHP

Hello,  I have serveral different directories within one directory that have TAB files (of point, line, and polygon geometry type) that I would like to merge and convert to SHP by there unique name.  For example:  \\\\one\\test.TAB \\\\one\\test2.TAB \\\\one\\test3.TAB \\\\two\\test.TAB \\\\two\\test2.TAB \\\\two\\test3.TAB  What I want is for the output directory is, all the same name files to be merged and converfted to ESRI SHP, e.g.  \\\\export\\test.SHP \\\\export\\test2.SHP \\\\export\\test3.SHP  I defined my TAB reader to the TAB directory/sub directory as Single Merged Feature Type.  For my SHP writer I defined my output directory, however I'm not sure where to go from here since it is asking for a particular geometry type and the input TAB files are of different geometry type being point, line, and polygon.  I guessing there is some automated way of using one reader and one writer instead of creating seperate readers and writers for each unique input dataset?  Thank you

Spatially attributing a list of polygons based on an intersection with a linear feature

I'm looking for a solution that produces an output of a spatially ordered list of parcel features using the intersection of the parcel and a linear feature.   To assign the spatial order, an attribute numeric integer field will be added in the writer feature type called listing and it would be populated beginning with "1" for the 1st parcel intersected by the beginning point of that line. Then the next parcel intersected by the line would have a listing attribute number of '2', and so on until the last intersected parcel at the end point of the line is reached.  Any suggestions?

FME 2013 - Java functions/factories

Hi,   does anyone know if the MODULE_PATH parameter has any impact for java plugins? You'll need a db file with 3 entries in /pluginsinfo:    PLUGIN_NAME|MODULE_PATH|MODULE_TYPE  For all java examples the MODULE_PATH is not set and tests with different setting show no effect at all. FME seems simply to add all jar files in /plugins to classpath.  The reason why i am asking: We have a plugin which requires a lot of 3rd party jar files. If we put all files just into /plugins it just works fine. But we would like to put all our files in a subdirectory, e.g. /plugins/myFac/*.jar so we do not clutter the directory. But this seems not to work, even i we manipulate the system wide CLASSPATH before starting FME.  Any suggestions/hints?

BoundingBoxReplacer crashing

In FME2013 I am having a problem with BoundingBoxReplacer crashing when set to Oriented Bounding Box. I am feeding it output from the Aggregator transformer.  Has anyone else had this issue? It worked fine in FME2011.

No log file exists when I create a schedule in FME Server

Hi,   I work on a workbench which transform shapefile to CityGml. This step is ok.  After, I would like to publish it to FME Server and add to a schedule with a recurrence to 5 sec for example.  The second step to publish the workbench to FME Server is ok but the schedule every 5 sec is not ok, I obtain a error message "no log files exists" and the sechule fails.   I discover the log files seems to be check in this path  C:\\Program Files\\FMEServer\\DefaultResults while FME Server searchs it in this path  C:\\Program Files\\FMEServer\\Logs\\scheduler\\tasks.   I believe the solution is to change the default recording path of the log file but I didn't find where I can change it.   Could you help me ?   Thank you in advance.  Aglae.

Extract Geometry Traits

I have a bunch of features that have Geometry Traits attached as a result of an upstream process I have carried out to find out if they are valid. I now want to manipulate those traits and I'm pretty confident that I need to use the GeometryPropertyExtractor. But no matter what I enter into the parameter 'Traits to Extract' I cannot get anything to be extracted. If I inspect the features I can see the traits but I'm not clear how to reference them so I can get at them... does anyone have any experinece with traits that they can share? Thanks!

Generating writer sub-folder when using the dynamic schema

Hi everyone,  If I'm using the Dynamic Schema to write out, can I create a sub-folder based on input formats or elsewhere?  I've got a workbench I want to publish to FME server, it's quite basic. It takes shp files, runs them through a GeometryFilter and then adds appropritate statistics, i.e. for points it add the coordinates, for polygons it adds areas, etc.  They write out to three different destination folders using dynamic schema:  \\data\\Tasks\\Geometry_Statistics\\Writer\\Points \\data\\Tasks\\Geometry_Statistics\\Writer\\Polylines \\data\\Tasks\\Geometry_Statistics\\Writer\\Polygons  These all appear as published parameters in FME server, what I'd like to do is have it so users can just specify:  \\data\\Tasks\\Geometry_Statistics\\Writer\\  with FME doing the rest, i.e. dynamically creating the sub-folders.  I've worked out you can link the destination to a parameter, but I can't see how you can make that parameter kind of dynamic, i.e. choose between

Linking a Parameter to the Prefetch Query on Joiner

I'm trying to build a dynamic SQL string to use as my Prefetch query on a Joiner transformer.  I am linking a Python script Private Parameter to the Prefetch query parameter on the Joiner.  I am using the Python script to construct the query, something like  return "select * from " + FME_MacroValues["SchemaOwner"] + ".TABLE_NAME".  When I run the workspace I get the message  An error occurred while accessing a table result for feature type `__fme_execute_sql_results__'; message was `Execution of statement `select' did not succeed; error was `ORA-00936: missing expression'.  However, if I copy the SQL statement from the Python script with the parameter substitution for the database schema name into the Prefetch query parameter on the Joiner, the query executes successfully.  Is there a way to create a dynamic SQL statement for a Prefetch query?  I am currently using a beta copy of FME 2013.  Thanks, Steve

Finding Nearest Neighbor

Hi,  I have two oracle tables ABC and DEF with lat-long fields where each record include detail of a site. I want to find a site from table DEF which is 20 mile away for each record of table ABC.  Logic I am using is below 1. Two oracle non spatial reader for each table. 2. Assigning LL84 coordinate system to both teh reader 3. Using 2DPointReplacer to convert the lat/long into point 4. Trying to copy an SQL file to an external FTP site. snapping gps trails to road centreline

Hi All,  i have a city wide road centreline shpfile and i have gps trail data gathered by buses. I need to select the roads that the gps trails on them. IE the bus routes.  I have tried a range of options. Select within roads within x of the gps trail, but this selects side roads that buses dont travel down.   I have tried selecting any road that the gps trail intersects with but again the side road problem defeats me.   I have tried the Anchor Snapper but all my records passed thru unsnapped?  Does anyone have any suggestions that im missing ?I was thinking about some conviluted approach using the angle of the intersection. if its > x then its a side road ?  Many Thanks Steve
