I have used the dissolver to join some spatial data that was touching.  It dissolved the boundaries fine, but all the attributes are gone.  I selected keep attributes in the dissolver, but they are gone.  Do I need to add additional steps and how do I add the attributes back to my data?  Thank you.

Hi,  I'm importing configuration values for a "Choice or Text" published parameter. The imported values are coming from a database and the list is fairly long.    I'd like the imported values to be sorted alphabetically but can't figure out a way to do it automatically. I tried adding an "order by" statement to the where clause, e.g. 1=1 order by column_name but it had no effect.    I know that I could manually edit the .fmw file with a text editor but my list of imported values is long and will likely need to be updated on a fairly regular basis.    Anyone have any thoughts on this?    thanks,  Nic

We use a lot of point clouds, a few here and there for GIS/Civil application. Our more common usage are using land laser scan in big existing plants (brown field,) place them as reference in our CAD software to do the CAD design of existing structures, equipment, etc. We then redraw what is exiting on top of the point clouds.  We can have hundreds of designers and engineers spending time re-drawing the objects on top of reference point clouds.  If we could recreate surfaces of structures and equipment, to recreate the shape of walls, beams, piping, etc. That could save use an enormous amount of time (and money)  We do have many Point clouds management software and add-ons for CAD, but always look for alternate solutions; does anyone found ways of recreating thos type of shapes efficiently from Point cloud using FME?       

Hi,  In FME 2011 I used to be able to write to a csv file with no extension (eg. "filename"). In FME 2013 it seems that I cannot do that. If I do not set an extension it defaults to .csv so the output file is "filename.csv". Is there any way to write to a file with no extension in 2013? Thank you.  Paul

I'm getting this error below:  MS SQL Server Writer: Failed to parse `Date' from attribute value `05/07/2013' for column `EAST_current'  My source is an Excel file and I'm writing to a regular non-spatial SQL Server 2008 table.  All the columns in the SQL Server table have the datetime data type.  What could be the problem?  Do you see that single tick mark in front of the 05 in the error?  could that be a literal value?  I tried testing for that tick mark character in a Testor using the Match RegEX test using [`] and \\A[`] as the right value, but the row came out of the Failed port.  So I don't think the tick mark is really there.  The source data looks like this when I view it in the Feature Inspector while the translation is running:  5/7/2013  so I use the DateFormatter to conver the month and date to 2 digits with this date format:   %m/%d/%Y  this seems like a simple problem, i just can't see it.  Sarah

Hello everybody, I'm a noncertiefied FME-Greenhorn.  I will try to transfer CITYgml- Data into Microstation V8 and both, the internal MS- FME- Port and FME as Standalone, will give the Errorcode: 'CityGML Reader: The number of UV Texture coordinates did not match the coordinates of the geometry. Received '0' texture coordinates but the geometry has '4' points.'. There is some Geometry, which apperas in Microstation as single Lines (no shapes!) - but the Textures are not transfered (or not displayed because of the Elementtype?). The same Error will apear by transfer to dxf, kml, LANDxml or SetchUp- Format - without the Geometrydata as Result. So maybe the Reader will not accept the Data? On the other hand, i'm easily able to watch the Data inside Terrainview of Terratec!  Any Ideas? Best Regards tom 

Hi,  Is it possible to figure out programatically what license FME is using?  i.e. if I have multiple versions of FME on a machine to check using Python if 'c:\\fme2013\\fme.exe' is using a professional or oracle license.  Cheers  -James

Hi FME user,  I created a workbench FMW (script) in FME Desktop. The purpose of this script is to translate Oracle data to KMZ.  The tool is then delivered to my client in the FME format (FME Desktop, Save the file as: FME instead of fmw). This file is then used with FME Quick Translator.  My client asked if it was possible to change the name of the prompt window FME Quick Translator.  The pop-up window with the user settings is called fmequicktranslator and I wonder if it is possible to change the name to something else?  an idea?

I have three writers (CSV, Shape, MITAB) that I want to output to the same directory.  However, I want that directory to be specified within the workspace at runtime based on the fme_basename of the input.  So for example: Inputs:   random_dataset_1.csv   random_dataset_2.xls  Outputs:   c:\\outputs\\random_dataset_1\\bad_data.shp   c:\\outputs\\random_dataset_1\\bad_data.TAB   c:\\outputs\\random_dataset_1\\bad_data.csv    c:\\outputs\\random_dataset_2\\bad_data.shp   c:\\outputs\\random_dataset_2\\bad_data.TAB   c:\\outputs\\random_dataset_2\\bad_data.csv  How can I do this? There isn't a "parameterWriter". I think I saw someone about using special fme_ attributes, but I can't recall what nor find them. Thanks.

Is it possible to upgrade our desktop to 2013 64bit from 2012 sp3 x86 even though it's installed on the same machine as a Server 2012 sp3 x86?  Just going through our upgrade to 2013 and 64bit.  We want to keep our server running while we upgrade.

Folks,   I want the PointOnArea transformer to recognise composite polygons (eg either ones created with the Aggregator or composite polys in ArcGIS) so that only 1 result is returned for each composite area.   It currently appears to devolve back to the source polygons. Has anyone seen this - and know how to get it to do this?

hi all I am trying to convert a shp to obj using the object id as fanout. The file name of each obj file has to be the same as the object id, right now the directory has the name...anyone know how to set this up? thanks 

Hi,  I am new to FME. I am trying to do a batch processing to convert shapefiles to JSOn files. All my shape files are in current directory, e.g., C:\\Users\\username\\Documents\\Projects I am trying to convert each of them into a separate json file in a folder C:\\Users\\username\\Documents\\Projects\\JSON I used dataset fanout after selecting all the shapefiles as input but it is returning only json file corresponding to the first shapefile. I also used file->batch deploy by selecting the source folder with *.shp as wild card  and destination as above and deselected retain basename. But it is also giving only the output from first file.  Please help me out where I am wrong or if you need information.  Thanks, Vivek

Hello community!    I have 7 Batches (created via Batch deploy), that read spatial data from an oracle 10 database into SQLite. The biggest user takes, when batch is started manually, about 18 minutes. When this batch is started using windows scheduler, it takes up to 3 hours! Same for all the others.   I'm using FME 2013 SP1 Oracle Edition on Windows Server 2012.  neither the oracle server nor the fme server is under heavy load. (1-5% cpu).  scheduled task are started as same user which starts manually the batches.  (admin, highest privileges). Is there an option to tell each task its priority?  is there a problem when batchfiles and tclfiles are located on desktop?  (workspace are located in user\\documents\\my fme workspaces)    would be thankful for any advice.  best regards, chris.

Hi,  I thought I just ask around here first about this challendge, to see if anybody done this before or can give some pointers.  I have a set of rasters (differing in file size and properties) that need to be tiled but not past a give file size. I need to be a able to input any raster and to tile it below the maximal file size. Any help would be welcome. Itay

Dear All,   While importing 3DS/colada format Lod3 building data to ESRI FILEGDB (Multi patch feature class) using FME. We are getting building without texture in File GDB. Not showing any errors in import process. While inspecting this data in  ‘Data Inspector’ 3DS/colada files are with texture info But imported FILEGDB (Multi patch feature class) without texture.     1.       Is FME having provision to import along with texture ?    2.       If so shell we get mapping for 3DS/colada to FILEGDB (Multi patch feature class)?   Govardhan

Hi I'm having an issue using a User Paramater inside the END SQL with the Oracle Writer.  I can use it in the WHERE clause on the Reader no problem but using the same format on the END SQL is causing me some problem. I'm sure it is something simple that I've missed!  Reader WHERE: USERUPDATED = '$(P_USERNAME)' Writer END SQL: DELETE FROM DB_UPDATED WHERE USERUPDATED = '$(P_USERNAME)' It literally tries to find the string $(P_USERNAME) Here is the contrived example (yes I would normally do this in SQL!): http://db.tt/kWQgcu3j

I have duplicate points with different IDs that I would like to flatten out based on the lowest ID number. For example, I have four duplicate points with different IDs, point:A1 point:A2 point:A3 Point:A4, I would like to turn those four points into one point with the point IDs in separate fields ordered from lowest to highest like this point;A 1 2 3 4.  What is the best way to do this?

Hi,  Im trying to scale a text with a factor 1000.0. In the Parameters I set the Text Scaling to Location and Size. But only the Location is scaled, not the size. When I convert the database data to an AutoCAD drawing and I open the drawing, the text has still the wrong size. Is this a bug, am I doing something wrong or.....? I'm using Workbench 2010.  TIA  Regards Leo

I am using ArcSDEQuerier with only an attribute query to fetch geometry for features. The where clause uses an attribute value populated by an earlier SQLCreator transformer: "POLYGON_NUMBER = @Value(POLYGON_NUMBER)". I have noticed that the query running in Oracle uses a hard-coded value rather than a bind variable.  This adversely affects performance. Is there any reason why the ArcSDEQuerier does not use bind variables? Also is there way to alter the SDE connection CURSOR_SHARING session parameter before running the translation so that I can force the use of bind variables?   I am using FME 2012 desktop, the Oracle version is 10g and ArcSDE version is 9.3.
