FME Form

I’m using FeatureWriter to write data using dynamic schemas to multiple worksheets of an Excel file. In the particular case where I detected the issue, the data meant for the last worksheet contain just one row and value in just one of the columns. This value is ‘No’. As you can see, the native_data_type of the respective schema attribute for this value is ‘string’. In the result excel file, however, the ‘No’ value is changed to FALSE. I can’t figure out why this happens. The Writer writes other ‘No’ values to other worksheets and all of them appear to written correctly as ‘No’. This is the FeatureWriter setup: Have I made a mistake somewhere, or is it a bug in the Excel Writer?

I need to send three files to an API. When I do it directly via the API, I have no issues—the files are sent and I receive status code 200. However, when I try to send them through FME, I can’t get it to work. Am I making some configuration mistake in FME?

New to FME, have a client using FME and want to read and traverse through a MicroStation DGN file on a number of client machines. What’s the best way to achieve this? Does a license allow me to distribute a DLL for use on their clients? Is there a batch interface I can use? Steve @ Hexagon

I can find it nowhere in the documentation. Could someone point me to the right direction on how to authenticate at an API,using a certificate?

What transformer could be used to identify if a townland border which is lines, is supported by an underlying line feature and any areas that are supported to be extracted.

I have a set of feature classes inside a File Geodatabase, which I read using the "Single Merged Feature Type" option in FME. After reading, I perform some analysis on the data. At the end of my workflow, I want to write the results to a new File Geodatabase. I'm using a Dynamic Esri Geodatabase Writer because I want to write each input feature class as a separate output feature class, keeping the original names — but with a _buffer suffix added to each. 🔹 Goal: If the original feature class was Rivers, I want the output to be Rivers_buffer. 🔹 What I've Tried: I used an AttributeManager to set: fme_feature_type = @Value(fme_feature_type)_buffer I also tried setting: fme_schema_feature_type = @Value(fme_feature_type) (before overwriting it) But I keep getting this error: Esri Geodatabase Writer: Feature Type Definition 'Rivers_buffer' was requested, but not defined. 🔹 Additional Info: The writer is fully dynamic. Hi, I have a point cloud with colour values. Eg the first image. I would like to make an RGB raster of this at a specified ground size (0.5m2). However, whenever I try to do this with the image rasteriser I get nodata pixels everywhere. This is because only about half of my data has a higher density than 0.5m2. Eg the second image. So what I would like to do is either replace nodata values with an interpolated value (say the nearest colour, or bilinear) or make it correctly in the first place, at my desired size, so that there are no nodata values at all. As in its one continuous raster Does anyone know how to do this? I haven’t successfully been able to work it out. I should note that I want the input to be the point cloud as I don’t want to coerce it into points for efficiency. I can definitely do it that way, its just computationally expensive. I have been trying to set up a Package dev environment on a Mac (Sonoma 14.7.7) and it crashes every time I get to the ‘import fmeobjects’ test in the venv. Just getting that far was a huge hassle. It appears that the SDK instructions and fme-packager library are geared for Windows. I had to modify the fme_env.pth file to only show the FME Home path and get rid of the rest, for instance. The issue seems to be that the native FME python 3.13.5 library does not like the Python.org 3.13.5 library, but can’t say for sure. Are Macs even supported for this? I currently don’t have access to v2025 on Windows. If anyone has had success making packages using MacOS, any insight is appreciated. Bonus points if you have a good ICP reference! Thanks, -Loren

Hello! Has anyone successfully used the ArcGISBranchVersionManager transformer to automate reconcile and post operations for branch versioned layers? I created the web connection to our enterprise portal and tested it as specified in this article and even connected to my version, so I know the web connection works but when I configure the ArcGISBranchVersionManager transformer to use the same feature layer with my version I get a rejected feature with this message: “`fme_rejection_message' has value `stopEditing failed for session {xxxxxxxxxxx}: The ArcGIS REST API returned an error: HTTP Error Code: : 'The workspace is not being edited.' Message Code . Further details: '[]''”. It seems like maybe I’m not configuring the workspace correctly but I don’t see any option to start an edit session. Below is the screenshot of my workspace. I am at FME(R) 2024.2.2.0 (20250114 - Build 24820 - WIN64) . Thanks!

Hi all,The data in my geodatabase file has an attached layer for each data layer I want to perform some transformer in FME and got the error: “An error occurred while attempting to open an insert cursor on the table 'XXX'. The error number from ArcObjects is: '-2147216556'. The error message from ArcObjects is: {Objects in this class cannot be updated outside an edit session [DMA]}GEODATABASE_FILE writer: An error has occurred. Check the logfile above for details” I found the solution is to change the setting in Transactions Type to Edit Session But after setting, some layers can perform the conversion but some layers get the error: “An error occurred while attempting to stop an edit operation. The error number from ArcObjects is: '-2147220975'. The error message from ArcObjects is: {File read/write error occurred. [XXXXXX]}GEODATABASE_FILE writer: An error has occurred. Check the logfile above for details” Can anyone please advise me what I need to do now to fix these errors

Hi all, I’m having issues trying to generate links within a kml file to a photos in the same folder. First I generate the Hyperlink: <a href="@Value(fme_basename).jpg">@Value(fme_basename)</a> Then I use the KMLPropertySetter The link comes into Google Earth: But the link doesn’t work: \\img_2416.jpg Not sure why there are two extra slashes! Weirdly if I copy and paste the link into outlook or even this post, the link works, but it doesn’t work when you click on it in Google Earth. Please can someone help me with the syntax? Thanks. p.s. One of the greatest new features of the IFC4x3 schema is that we can write 2D lines to IFC, which was not supported in IFC2x3. Why does the new IFC writer support only 3D surfaces and solids and not 2D line geometries?

I’m using an HTTPCaller to applyEdits using ESRI’s REST API. It includes sending along some JSON to add to a table in a feature service. The workspace runs successfully testing with 1 or 2 records in the JSON parameter, which is all sent with a single HTTP call, but fails when testing with 10 records. It looks like FME is truncating the HTTP string, which causes the request to fail. That’s what it looks like in the FME log anyway; the query string appears on two lines (see attached screenshot). If I try applyEdits in a web browser at the REST endpoint and paste the JSON in manually, I can add the data without issue. Is there a parameter or formatting change I need to make to keep FME from truncating the HTTP call? (FME Desktop/Form 2023.2.2.0, build 23764)

When attempting to add a File Geodatabase to my workspace, I encounter the following error: "Unable to perform any licensing-related tasks. Please check your Esri ArcGIS Compatibility workspace parameter, found in Navigator → Workspace Parameters → Translation. I am trying to use the ChangeDectector to compare datasets before loading. First set is AGOL data, new set is SDE data. Every features is considered “changed” because of unexposed attributes that I don’t want to compare. When I have it set to “compare all except”, I am excluding attributes like “last_edit_user” and “last_edit_date”. There are only 4 to exclude and they are the same 4 for all the datasets so I am able to duplicate the transformer. But all records are exiting the “Updated” port because of these unexposed attributes: geodb_type, multi_reader_type, geodb_oid, etc. I dont want to compare these and I also don’t want to expose them first becuse the AGO layers don’t have some of them so I would have to create them and then exclude them. Alternatively, I could use “Only compare these attributes”, but because each set of data to compare have different attributes, I would have to fix the ChangeDetector transformer for each set. Hi, I’am using FME Workbench 2022 with ArcGIS desktop 10.8.1 and ArcGIS Pro 3 on the same machine. When I try to load a feature class only compatible with ArcGIS Pro (containing arcade expression), FME continues to use ArcGIS Desktop 10.8.1 librairies despite the transation / Esri ArcGIS Compatibility set to Auto or ArcGIS Pro.

Please be careful when using web connections: I think for most users this is probably a given, however, I’ve just seen something used practice which I thought was a little risky. When using web connections in FME, FME is not checking the hostname when making the request to an end point. This is true at least for some types of FME Server web connections but I assume it’s also true for others. If you have defined a service which uses a web connection you should only use that web connection when you actually need it. For example if you are dynamically requesting a list of URLs and only one of them requires authentication do not use the web connection for every request - especially if it’s to a different host. You will be sending the token or (in the case of basic HTTP Authentication) the username and password to those other servers. If you are not even checking the list of URLs then of course you could be making requests and sending out your credentials to who knows where.

Hi, I’m using XSDDrivenXMLWriter to write very dynamic XML to a file. There is one part of the xml with a lot of features that is very static and contains always the same data like origin and publisher… I don’t want to create all the 30 features with the XSDDrivenXMLWriter for this static part and thought I could use the _XML_FRAGMENT_ feature and 3 attributes like xml_fragment, xml_document_append_path and xml_document_append_as to tell the XSDDrivenXMLWriter to add my static xml to the output. But somehow I can’t get it working. Can you please provide me an example workspace? Unfortunately I cannot provide my workspace because it is restricted by the customer. Many thanks.

Hi, Newbie type question. I am currently loading in files to a output on a weekly basis. Issue has been I have to edit the file in the workbench with the new filename. The file I upload changes on a daily basis with its name. How can FME pick up the latest file that has been updated without having to change the file path on a daily basis? I have tried to use this https://knowledge.safe.com/questions/65203/read-only-the-newest-file-from-a-directory.html method but unfortunately I am not getting it to work. I also do not need to generate any further data to my existing table, just was interested in the function where it can automatically pick up the latest file at folder level by date modified. I have a workbench that converts CAD drawings to GIS, writing to both a FGDB and SDE. SDE was recently upgraded to 11.4. This workbench has run just fine for the past 8-9 years, with enterprise and FME updates and upgrades happening over the years. Recently however, it continues to fail if I run it on all DWGs I need. Either to the FGDB or SDE, or isolated to either one. It processes all the drawings, and then I get this error at the end. An error occurred while attempting to stop an edit operation. The error number from ArcObjects is: '-2147215975'. The error message from ArcObjects is: {The number of points is less than required for feature} Trouble is, I can run it on the drawings in chunks. So I ran it on the drawings modified in the last 6 months. Ran and wrote just fine. I ran it on the drawings modified 6 months prior to that, ran and wrote just fine. Going back until I ran it eventually on all the drawings. It fails on all drawings whether I choose the DWGs individually or use
