Shape the future of FME with your ideas
Open ideas have been reviewed by our Product Management and are open for commenting and voting.
We have a reader for ArcGIS Server Feature Services, however there is not a writer at this time. This idea is to gauge the interest for this new functionality. Please add details of why you would like us to create this writer format so that we can better understand your use case. We'd love to hear your story!
I know that it is intended for the SQL Executor to wait for the SQL result before moving on in a workspace, but in the case where I want to send a statement to refresh materialised views or trigger a function in Postgres, I only require it to wait 20 seconds or so to ensure there is no immediate error (like any missing dependent objects). Being deployed on FME Server, I do not want the workspace using up an engine for 2 hours while the database does it's thing. So an "Advanced" section with a tick box to tell it not to wait for the result, and an integer value for seconds to wait before moving on if a result is not returned in that time.
It would be nice have auto-layout work on selected objects by default, and if selected object is a bookmark only objects within the bookmark, and if nothing is selected then the whole workspace. Why? The auto-layout feature is generally only useful in simple workspaces. The larger and more complex the canvas gets the more using it just makes for more post-auto fixing up. However it's the complex workspaces that most need it.
Like QGIS have qgiscloud (qgiscloud.com), there should be an option to do similar stuff with FME. The concept is easy, as long as you stay under 50MB it's free, if you exceed you get prompted with options to pay for your amount to upload. Then you also get a wms for your data, a webpage to view your data, and much more. And yes, I have read this https://community.safe.com/s/bridea/a0r4Q00000HbsFvQAJ/fme-cloud-free-for-private-use?orderby=Recent&currentpage=3 and this https://community.safe.com/s/bridea/a0r4Q00000Hbr2VQAR/fme-server-home-edition , but I couldn't make them fit exactly with my idea.
When an existing table schema is read containing a primary key the primary key is identified in the list of features. This would be useful in dynamically reading tables with different primary key attribute names.Something like Property: attribute{17}.fme_index; Value: PRIMARY KEYThank you.
Does FME have any use cases in an agricultural environment? Let's find out! This idea is a potential webinar to be presented during October-December, 2022.
Add support to SAML 2.0 for FME Server authentication.
***Note from Migration:*** Original Title was: Streaming writer output from one workspace directly to a reader on another ala Unix/Linux pipelines There should be a way to send the output from a writer on one workspace directly to a reader on another workspace in realtime, much like pipes work in Unix/Linux. That way, each feature generated by one workspace can be immediately read and processed by the next without waiting for the entire set of features to be written, provided you have enough available cores on Desktop or engines on Server/Cloud to support these workspaces running concurrently. This would also allow a very natural, visualizable data-flow capability in Server Automations. It would be much more efficient than launching a workspace with parameters for each event coming out of an FME Server Automations Writer, as you only launch the receiving workspace once.
My need is for Reader mostly as I want to be able to push DGN files with Item Type data to geo dbase and access the Item Type values within GIS.
In the parameters of the oData Reader a Web Connection can be specified for authentication. But there is no Web Service for oData Services. HTTP authentication can be used, but there are options for oData, for example using an apikey
The option to send header options in the oData reader is missing. Similar to the headers option in HTTPCaller, authentication to an oData service can be done via an apikey. This option is missing in the oData Reader
Hi community team,I was on another community forum (cesium) and saw something which I thought was nice. Along with various activity metrics on community questions - One of the columns they have shows at a glance who has replied to a post. I thought this this would be pretty helpful for users browsing posts. If a question in the FME community already has an answer it's hard to judge if the answer is just a follow up from the original poster or an answer which answers the question. If, however, you can see at a glance that the answer has come from a top community member or members then you don't need to click in to check because you can trust that a good answer has been provided.
Simple: Remove all attributes for which all rows are empty/null/missing/...Better: List all attributes for which all rows are empty and allow selection of which ones to remove. This would really help to reduce the number of columns when normalizing data sets from various sources. My continuous need is for normalizing addresses from various county, city and open sources. When you have a couple hundred thousand rows, it is hard to figure out which attributes actually add value via the AttributeRemover or AttributeKeeper.
It would be really useful to get FTPCaller to rename a remote file.Common task is to rename the remote file by adding a .DONE file extension once FTP Download is complete.I'm of course using different methods and preferred one is PowerShell.
Update AutodeskBIM360DocsConnector to read all the Default Attributes in Autodesk Construction Cloud
It would be nice if the 2DGridAccumulator had the standard options for propagating attributes.Accumulation ModeUse Attributes From One Feature, Merge Incoming Attributes, Drop Incoming Attributes (current behaviour)Generate ListAll AttributesSelected Attributes
Since the complete FME Desktop and FME Server installation is huge, it would be great to be able to do incremental upgrades - only downloading the needed changes from build version X to build version Y....
This is related to FME and BIM. This article describes how you can take geometry in FME and pull it into Dynamo so that it can then be generated in Revit perhaps: https://community.safe.com/s/article/integrating-fme-into-dynamo-for-revitHowever I think this workflow is very limited and probably not something we would really use. Why? Because we can import DWGs directly into Revit. Sure, there might be things you'd want to do in Dynamo so perhaps this example is just not indicative of a true use-case. What would be REALLY useful is having FME run inside Revit, like McNeel is doing with Rhino, which allows Grasshopper to control things in Revit (https://www.rhino3d.com/inside/revit/1.0/). It would be great to have the ability to create geometry or read data in FME and place associated geometry or families etc. in Revit, either completely outside of Dynamo (which is a painful software to use compared to FME), or at least via more simplified FME nodes in Dynamo. Lots of room for improvement exists in this area! Ex:Read external data, create geometry (FME can do all this), then place families in Revit based on some sort of mappingJust like Dynamo is able to control Revit via the API, maybe have a set of transformers that can actually do the same while there are both an active session of FME and Revit running (the idea of "FME.Inside")
FME server currently supports importing and authenticating Azure Active Direcory (AAD) users. Would it be possible to also authenticate AAD guest users?
It would be great to be able to keep the configuration associated with an FME Cloud instance (alerts, security rules, events) when upgrading the instance. Some kind of backup&restore so you can recreate the configuration in the upgraded instance or just as a template for other instances.
It would be nice if the ListExploder could work with irregular lists instead of rejecting them with fme_rejection_code' has value `MISSING_PARAMETER_LIST'.An irregular list is a list that either does not start at 0 or does not have continuous indexes.ex. _list{1}_list{2}_list{3}or _list{0}_list{2}_list{3}_list{5}
