Hello, From what I am able to tell, FME is a very powerful spatial data extraction tool. But I have some specific use cases I am trying to decide if FME is a software that can be of use to me for extracting features out of Lidar data. A perfect example of my needs would be to use FME on lidar data taken of, say, along a street where we need to extract the edge of curb lines. Another example would be to detect changes over time, say i have a lidar dataset of a hillside taken in at two different times throughout the year. Would one be able to use FME to detect changes over time between the two datasets? Any help would be greatly appreciated on the matter! Thank you all for reading my post.

Hello! I have to add texture from a single .bmp file for more objects( roof buildings grouped by a common code) The target format is Openflight (.flt). I'm blocked in this procedure, please help me!!! Hello FMErs, I have a dataset with a large number of attributes I want to write to KML. Since most of the fields for any one record will be empty I'd like to check each field of each record and remove the field if it does not contain data. The search criteria for each field are the same so I'd like to loop the attributes from an array of some sort. I've looked at lists and looping in custom transformers but I can't quite see a path. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Alan

We have more than one FME Engine installed on our FME Server host. The Engines have different Versions, e.g. one Engine is 2012 and one 2013. This is inevitable in order to keep older workbenches functioning due to a lacking downward compatibility. So far with FME 2012 Server I was able to define on which of the engines a service will be run by assigning a parameter such as 'tm_fmeInstance Engine1' on the FME Server Console command (line). With FME 2013 Server this does no loger work. How am I to control the engine on which a service will be executed?

Dear FME experts, I’m getting quite desperate about a problem I still can’t solve. The input format is shape which contains areas. We use FME desktop (2013 SP1) to correct a great number of these geometries. The workbench contains AreaOnAreaOverlayers / Dissolvers etc. At the end we check the geometries with the GeometryValidator where we test all issues. 4 geometries are repaired. The output is shape again. Until here everything is fine. After this we use SPIT to load the shapes in PostGIS. Running isValid in PostGIS returns a lot of errors. Self intersections. Our workaround is to repair geometry in ArcGIS which solves the self intersections. (a lot of them!) Then we load the shape again in FME, run the feautures through the GeometryValidator with all checks. 16 geometries are getting repaired. Now we can successfully load the shapes in PostGIS. The isValid function returns nothing now. I would love to skip the repair geometry cycle in ArcGIS. My latest guess is it should have to do

Hello: I have two FME programs: 1) Loads data in one spatial table 2) Loads data in another spatial table I would like to : - Keep these scripts independent, so script 1 can run on demand and to its thing, and - Script 2) can call script 1), for extra processing. My problem is, how do I invoke Script 1) from Script 2)? They both do different data processing, but it will be great if one can call the other. I am struglling with how to invoke Script 1, because there is no way "to trigger" its processing. I would like that, once Script 2 is done, it automatically triggers Script 1. Is this possible to do? I have been trying to do this with WorkspaceRunner, but I don`t get it to "run" Thanks again. Richard.

Hi, I have a polygon feature class and a table in a file geodatabase. There are multiple rows in the table for a given polygon in the feature class. I want to create a new polygon feature class with polygons for every match in the table. I have tried Matcher, which seems to work, but it is not populating the Shape Area and Shape Length. Hi there, I have a line feature class in an SDE database that changes daily. I need to compare this feature class with the newer shapefile and add the changes to the SDE feature class. Currently, I have a reader for the SDE feature class, a reader for the shape file, they go through the change detector transform, and then I have a writer to the same SDE feature class. However, the change detector is not detecting any duplicates, even when I test with the exact same file (so all output should be unchanged). This works correctly if I have two readers that are both shapefiles, or two readers that both read from an SDE feature class. Any ideas why it won't detect duplicates with a combination? Thank you.

Hello. I am new to using FME/ESRI Data Interoperability tools, so please forgive me for my inexperience with FME translations. I am working with the Data Interop Extension for ArcGIS , and am attempting to use a custom ETL tool to assist with the translation. I have a SQL 2012 database that contains a table of our crime data. The table has an X and Y coordinate field, which is based off NAD83 Illinois State Plane West system. Using the X and Y fields, I created a GEOMETRY column in the table in SQL Server managment studio (set the SRID in SQL to 4326 when creating the column). However, in order to use Bing tiled map services, I need to have data stored in a Geography column. I am trying to use the FME tool (ESRIReprojector) to import the SQL Server Spatial table, reproject it from NAD83 to WGS84, and then output the result to the empty GEOGRAPHY column. The workspace will run, but there is Not any data populated to the new GEOGRAPHY ) column in the SQL table and I am unsure of where I

Hi all I use a PythonCaller to compare the output from some transformers with a textfile. Depending on the results I would like to set a global variable or modify a published parameter. In the further workflow I would like to use the parameter to determine if the features should be written out or not. As a workaround I used a VaraibleSetter and VariableRetriever to set a global variable which I can use in a Tester. It yould be more elegant to set and expose the global variable or modify a published parameter within the python Caller. Is it possible to change the value of a published parameter within a PythonCaller? If I try to fo modify the published parameter with FME_MacroValues['NameOfPublishedParameter'] = "Yes", it doesn't affect the value. The default vlaue will be used. Is it possible to set and expose a glaobal variable (function or factory: @GlobalVariable) analog to the VariableSetter/VariableRetriever combo? Thanks for any advice felix

Hi , I hope this is a simple query. I have a dataset which has a field that contains the organisation name and address seperated by spaces (see example) I also have a gazetteer that should match the address in the first dataset without organisation name. I want to be able to compare the two strings and extract the organisation name into a new field. Example: Dataset 1: Kam's Made Up Org 15 Test Street Testingham TE23 2TE Dataset 2: 15 Test Street Testingham TE23 2TE Desirable new field: Kam's Made Up Org p.s. hello everyone I don't have good experience with FME, but i need to use it in my Master thesis project. The thing is i am developing an iPad App, one of the most important parts in this App is to send the GPS latitude, longitude to the GIS server (via FME) then get the GIS data related to that GPS location in a Wavefront obj file (in 3D) (ALSO via FME). So could you please provide me with any pointers to start. Any tutorials that explain this communication. I am using Objective c as the main programming language and also java for the servers. Another question from me. I know that FME is capable of setting no data on geotiffs when making a conversion from polygon to raster. Setting a background value with the ImageRasterizer and then filling it with Nodata. Interpreting this image in ArcGIS, the Nodata actually means no data and can be excluded from calculations. I want to do the same process process manually without the conversion from a polygon. So GeoTiff --> GeoTiff. The RasterBandNodataSetter doesn't seem to actually work for me what should I fill in for "Nodata Value" when for instance I want all the 255,255,255 values to be regarded as NoData? To what attribute should it be linked? Any alternatives? I prefer not to make a conversion to shape first, if possible. FME desktop 2012

Hello! Im someway aware of the problem FME has with handling the NULL-values (http://evangelism.safe.com/fmeevangelist89/). My question is: how is it possible to write NULL values when dealing with ESRI geodatabases? I have noticed that FME 2013 has an option in AttributeValueMapper transformer to set destination value to Null. Still, it does'nt seem to work. Running the workspace gives me warnings like: FileGDB Writer: The `kood' attribute could not be written. The containing feature has been dropped. The field 'kood' is smallint type and declared to allow NULL values. So the general question is: is it at all possible to set attribute values to NULL inside FME and subsequently write NULL values to geodatabase? Thank you, Raivo Estonian Land Board

Afternoon All, I have a ESRI file GDB with domains set on a wide range of attributes. Somehow there are attribute values in FGDB that dont conform to the domain list. (possibly entered before the domains were registered). I want to "Validate" that the values in all attributes conform to the domain values. I know there is the "Validate Features" options in the FGDB writer/advanced tab but this terminates the workbench on the first records it finds that does not validate. I want a list of ones that dont "Validate" How do i construct a table or list of values, records that are not in the domain list. ( i have many attribute fields and many records and many tables). I've read everything out there on scripted parameters in FME (which is not much) and none of it has helped me. I'm trying to have an AttributeRenamer, where the Attribute List is a scripted python parameter, a fairly simple one at that. Say, my original field is "ONE_AAA". (but it could be "TWO_AAA", "THREE_AAA", etc). I want it to rename it to just "AAA", so I have a this python script: fld = FME_MacroValues['Test_Condition_1'] suffx = fld[(fld.find("_")+1):fld.__len__()] return fld + ',' + suffx + ',""' 'Test_Condition_1' is simply a published parameter that the user enters to let FME know what field he wants renamed. I've linked this python scripted parameter to the Attribute List and it does not work. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Hi, I want to download data from our companys ArcGIS online account. We have guys in the field editing, I want to download their field work, process it, post it back for them to review. I am not familiar with both "getting" and 'posting" data sources on the web or the lingo eg REST, SOAP etc. I tried the WFS reader and couldnt get the correct settings. Any help aimed at a novice would be much appreciated cheers Brian

I have a job which has been added to FME Server. I would like a user to log into FME Server and run the workspace but allow them to process a textfile on their local drive and output a shapefile to their local drive also. The workspace connects to Oracle Spatial to retrieve some data also. Is this possible? Thanks

I'm using ChangeDetector transformers and Tester transformers to compare two database tables and get modified records .now i need to get only those attribute values which have changed and not the entire record. Please help thanks in advance
