We've upgraded to fme server 2021, and when we build a new automation, it's impossible to use a value from upstream and pass it to a workspace parameter when the parameter type is not plain text. Before with fme 2020, its was possible to set a choice parameter with a uptream value.   Is this a bug, or a new behavior for fme server 2021 ?

I am reading CAD point blocks with Explode Blocks unchecked. FME represents these features as points (fme_point), as expected; however, if I then try to write these points back out to a new CAD file, the writer rejects all of them, saying that the blocks are not defined in the CAD file. I don't want blocks written out. I want simple points written out. Now, if I explode blocks on read, only one of the four blocks/feature types in the CAD file produces the insertion points as points. The other three produce all the lines, arcs, etc. but no points. So, how do I go about getting the points for all the blocks and then writing them out to CAD as plain points, i.e. no blocks.

I have an excel sheet, and need to read the value that's displayed in the cell, rather than what the actual saved value is.I haven't had much luck being able to find any way to do this. I was hoping the <attribute_name>.formatting attributes would contain this value, but it doesn't seem like it is. This is messy data, and values in this column might be text, might be a number, might be rounded to different decimal places, or might be padded with .0 in case of integers. So any solution would have to be on a per cell basis rather than making any global assumptions on how a number ought to be formatted. If there's a solution that works in FME Desktop 2017 that would be preferable, but I'm willing to use later versions if necessary.

Hello everyone, I want to change the name of the shape file to "asd.shp" rather than "Table1". I need a solution suggestion for this. Also, I don't want to see all the columns in the excel list in my shape file, I need some of them.

The plan is to be able to assign floor heights dynamically based on my FLOOR_ID attribute. To be clear, the sheet with the geometry and the sheet with a list of floor heights both have FLOOR_ID as the name of the attribute. Was hoping to use conditional values, but not having any luck. Here are some screenshots for context:Above, is the preview from my Excel Reader showing the FLOOR_ID and height values. This is on a separate sheet from one with all the geometry, FLOOR_ID and other data. Error coming from ListKeyValuePairExtractor.  This configuration does not work, but there were no other choices. Was hoping to do something like this in the 3DForcer, but it errored before it got there. Hello. I have a georeferences Collada file, which is placed in Jersey EPSG:3109. The task is to migrate data from smallworld and oracle to sql-server.The data contains multiple geometry columns. So I've followed Writing to Database Tables that contain Multiple Geometry ColumnsI managed to insert the records but the geometry trait information is missing.Here is an example of Oracle:And here an example of Smallworld:The FME translation results in sql server:So the traits information is lost.Can I keep the trait information stored in Smallworld as "Text Rotation" or in Oracle called "oracle_orientation" into the sql db?Is there an sql-server equivalent? 

Hi Guys, no so sure if this questions belongs here:  1st> what's the best way to have an internal (to the workbench) datasheet (4 columns x 20 raws of values). Is it in the workspace resources?  2nd: I am reading +storing a sequence of characters from a file (a file that I am uploading and processing). I want to compare this sequence (a name) with the aforementioned database in question 1 (actually with one column of the database), So when getting a coincidence name=cell A1 , I will store or been able to retrieve the values of the other cells within the same raw (cell A2, cell A3, and cell A4) .  Thank you very much!  Jorge

I am trying to use CurveFitter on a set of contour lines but am not getting useful results. As you can see some of the lines overlap, even after a very light processing. How can this be avoided? I tried both settings of Preserve boundries, but that did not make much difference. 

Is it possible to containerize a dataflow ? Something like this:Where we split our dataflow, we apply some specific transformation on one of the containers and then the rest of the dataflow is similar for both container. During the end of the workflow, both container will be isolated.  Is that possible ? For simple workbench this is useless, but if, for example, I have a lot of "group by" transformer in the "End of the workflow" part, then it will be useful. 

I am creating a workflow to check incoming DWGs for compatibility. Ideally I would like to compare it to a template file and find any additional layers that have been added, plus report out a few other things. We want an easy report to accept or reject a DWG coming in from outside. TIA!

Is there a way to limit the size of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets to say 250 Rows, so that the Writer ends up spitting out multiple Spreadsheets for Work Packages that you can then assign to members of a team?

The problem: We have duplicate ID's across various tables, an example being: Table 1ID 1 = UNI-ID1-234211ID 2 = UNI-ID1-234211 Table 2ID 1 = UNI-ID2-230011ID 2 = UNI-ID2-230011ID 2 = UNI-ID2-230011 I want to find the duplicate ID's and then increment the last part of the ID, but retain first lowest value. For example: Table 1ID 1 = UNI-ID1-234211ID 2 = UNI-ID1-234212 Table 2ID 1 = UNI-ID2-230011ID 2 = UNI-ID2-230012ID 2 = UNI-ID2-230013 I've isolated the duplicates with a Matcher already. I've split the ID based on hyphen to get me 3 parts to the ID, _list{2} gives me the last part.  I assume I'll need to push it through a looping custom transformer maybe? or can it be done with Listing techniques too?  Thanks for your help,

I have a 3D point dataset (no point cloud) and a 2D line dataset. The lines only consist of a start node and an end node. The point dataset is identical with the start and end nodes. My goal is now to transfer the height information from the 3D point dataset to the 2D nodes of the lines in order to obtain a 3D polyline. Is there a way to do this in FME?

I am using an Area on Area Overlayer and Expression Evaluator to calculate the percentage of overlap of one polygon dataset with another -the scenario is percentage ownership. I have noticed that those polygons that should have 100% overlap / ownership because they are completely within the other, do not show as a nice round 100%, always 99.something up to 101.something. I'm guessing this is something to do with geometry and /or tolerance, but how to solve it? 101% ownership will raise questions when the data is presented!

I was looking at ways to create Elevation profiles but did not find any transformers or other easy ways to do this in FME. Should I be searching for some other word?I don't need anything fancy, the sources are some polylines and a DEM file. I would be happy with something as simple as a csv file as output.

I simply want to calculate the difference between two numerical values. (In this case elevation taken as an attribute)I want to add a new attribute with this information and thus sing the AttributeManager. My expression is as follow@Value(_elevation)-@Value(cover_z)But it come out as 1.87-3.14 in the new attribute. How do I make it actually subtract?I found that _elevation had comma as delimeter whilst cover_z had period as delimiter. I have tried to find out what datatype FME is interpreting the fields but there are no way of finding if FME see it as string or float?I did however try to wrap each attriubute in @int8(<float>) to cast it to numeric, that did not work.I used string replaces and got the to use the same delimiter, but that did not work either?I just want to do a simple subtraction between values... any advice?

Hi, I have created a custom projection file and put it in User -> Document-> FME -> CoordinateSystemsI have restarted my laptop. It does not appear in the gallery.I created it with a text editor. Am I putting it in the correct location for FME 2020?Is there a log somewhere to tell be if it has been read or there is an error in the file?Do I need the backslash on the end of each line? I was hoping to use the online tool to create the projection but I wanted to base the projection on GDA2020 , There does not appear to be a Datum to reference for 2020 in the dropdown in the online tool. Any assistance welcomed,Ian Hamilton

Hi, I make an attempt at removing the effects of building heights on a DSM (Digital Surface Model) in order to obtain a result looking more like a DTM (Digital Terrain Model), in other words something closer to the bare soil elevation. My thought was to use a RasterResampler transformer and define a cell size a bit larger than the buildings, and also assigning the minimum elevation value to the new pixel. However I don't see a minimum value method for RasterResampler. I looked at the RasterConvolver but there is no way to define the kernel size in terms of distance instead of pixels. Correct me if I'm wrong. In other words I need to find the minimum over a great number of neighboring pixels (much more than the traditional kernel sizes).How would you achieve such a raster operation using FME Desktop? Thanks in advance! Best regards,Olivier

According to https://community.safe.com/s/article/working-with-geodatabase-field-aliases , when reading aliases from a GDB, an additional attribute with fieldname_alias is created, containing the alias. When writing to a GDB, this field is used to write the corresponding field's alias. So I figured formatting an Excel table like below would work, but the fields are written to the GDB normally, and there don't seem to be any options to flag the fields as alias fields.
