The File GDB Open API supports reading metadata stored in the geodatabase. For example, you can do `ogrinfo -sql "GetLayerMetadata layerName" my_geodatabase.gdb/` to get the XML data from a certain layer in a geodatabase. However, in FME the FileGeoDatabase Open File API reader does not support this, making this task very complicated or requiring a different reader that is dependent on expensive bloatware.
While having multiple parrarel workspaces oppened and tested it would be nice to have a transformer that may generate sunds or short music rings if initiated by the data. It might be usefull to inform by voice sound or announcement about data processing end. It may initiate a window information box as well or automaticallty read text set as a parameter.
Is anyone interested in FME adding Nvidia CUDA support to some transformers as this would likely provide some significant processing boosts to routines that lend themselves to tasks that work well in parallel. apparently the FME founders Don and Dale seemed open to the idea - http://blog.safe.com/2015/06/ask-anything-ama-fme-co-founders-recap/ http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/cuda-parallel-computing-uk.html
I see that in FME2023 uses PROJ 7 version. There have been some changes from that version, is there anything on the roadmap to upgrade this to v9?
It would be great if the LineCloser has an option to specify the maximum distance for the line piece that will be created to close the line.An extra good option would be to create an attribute which then lists the distance of the line segment created to close the line.
I've really embraced the FME Server Workspace apps for small 'self service' tasks for people in the organisation to do something themselves in stead of mailing the GIS department.Almost always I want to report something back to the user. I use a streaming service and a html-writer for that. But that takes the user away from the app.Would it be possible to add something like an iframe capability to the app, to which the results of a workspace can be streamed?Kind regards,Martin

It can be tricky to see where log-jams are in complex workspaces - a simple charting tool that parses the log window and provides quick visualisation such as a histogram:x axis = transformer namey axis = sum of time elapsedwould be helpful. could be expanded in future to be a ticker tape as the translation runs to include CPU usage etc
I'd love to see a parameter on the writer feature types of the Esri Geodatabase Writers where you have an option to create or update the Spatial Indexes for the Esri Geodatabase feature types.It would be a great feature to update/rebuild spatial index on the feature types after they have finished loading. This would make your data ready to go after a big data loading job has completed. Is it possible for the HTTPCaller to adapt it so all Receiving Header Information is stored in an AttributeList. I have had multiple times that I wanted to control the Cookie information that is send. But there is no way to inspect what cookie information is received. It is very hard to debug HTTPCaller errors if you don't know exactly what is send and received. Now I have to debug using Postman.

I want to make a point on FME handling of memory ressources and why I think it is not optimum. I am referring to Windows environment (as I have no experience with FME on other OS)In the frist part of any FME log file some remarks can be found about how much physical and virtual memory it available and what limits will be used by FME for start/stop of requiring/freeing memory.As described here(https://community.safe.com/s/article/Performance-Tuning-FME-FME-Memory-Management) FME will decide ressource usage depending on virtual memory available.I think this is counter-productive in situations when more than one large FME process will fight for the same limited amount of memory.In practise I see windows machines with 64Gb physical memory and 264Gb virtual memory quite often. In such an environment we run 3-4 very large FME processes in parallel and each one thinks 264Gb is available, which is not true of course. We run into serious performance issues in this way, with physical memory completely used (99%) and hanging fme processes, as this relies on OS swapping, which is very bad on Windows.This does not occur, if the virtual memory is reconfigured to be only a little larger than physical memory. So we have to advice our power customers to reconfigure their Windows System for small extra virtual memory only because FME is following a "strange" memory policy.This is an undesirable situation, which cannot be followed in every customer situation as other applications may need the large extra virtual memory configuration.So I want to really question the fact, why FME is optimizing memory usage based on virtual memory and not on physical memory. Maybe a suggestion could be to influence the memroy policy to stay closer to the physical than the virtual limit by some parameter/environment variable or whatever.Repeating myself: What I want to avoid is to tell our customers that they need to reconfigure their Windows OS setting only due to FME reasons.
Hi, I know this suggestion goes against your commercial interests and so it's unlikely to be considered, but I was wondering if you could create a workbench file that can be run without having FME installed. That sounds more like a "how do I?", or a tutorial request, but I was asking along the lines of being able to provide a workbench (akin to a self extracting zip archive) to someone who can run my workbenches without purchasing a licence. My idea is that I can build a workbench and supply that to someone who will run the workbench, but they can only enter details into the user parameters and then see the output.The scenario is that I perform a dozen quality control checks using FME on supplier created data. I'd like to be able to supply my QA workbench to my suppliers with the caveat that they cannot supply their data until it has passed the QA workbench. In my idea, the suppliers can run the workbench but not see how it works, or make changes to transformers, they can just change parameters like output directory. This would tackle an issue where our suppliers can't afford a full licence of FME, or don't have FME skills, but they could benefit from the automation as they often resupply data that fails a series of automatic checks that they don't possess and can't run themselves.
I would love to see the option to change colors on the transformer. Having them blue ; green (CT) is nice as a default. But sometime I wish I could put some transformer Red , yellow, lime etc. Instead of looking at the bookmarks or comments it would be a nice addition.

In the counter, you can set the "Counter Name" to a attribute value, but can not set up multiple attribute values, if can be allowed to do so, will be more convenient to generate the "Group ID" such values.
FME Server prodive a filter function in the Jobs menu. It's possible to filter by the Job Status. In a normal situation I expect that if a workspace run until end I've a SUCCESS status.For some reasons is usefull to add LogMessage transformer for logging information during the execution of the job as warnings and error. It could be interesting to filter jobs by LogMessage type as warnings and errors even their status is SUCCESS.Thanks
Allowing the app to store the forms and request data on the devices for asynchronous demands would open usage to zones with poor network and new use cases. Here are some ideas but I am sure there are many more scenarios :The requests could be pushed when network is back and/or when the user wants.The requests could be accessible in a list and updated multiple times before being sent to the server. The requests could be moved out of the devices and treated by FME Desktop or closed network FME server when users come back at the office if the formats are open (SQlite /zip).
The CSV reader supports selecting a Date Input Format from a pulldown or custom format you enter. Frequently multiple date formats are within one CSV file or even within one attribute column, please support allowing a set of formats, say pipe delimited, and to retain bulk mode processing when multiple date formats are specified. How about pipe delimited like: %m/%d/%Y %H:%M:%S %p|%m/%d/%Y
A feature similar to the HTTPCaller's 'rate limiting' options may be very useful for reading features from feature services. We very often get failures when reading feature services, when the feature service throws an error about 'Too many requests, API calls quota exceeded'. I've had to work around this by stringing together multiple FeatureReaders with Decelerators between them. These read 6000 features, then a Decelerator has the workspace pause for 65 seconds, then read the next 6000, so on and so forth. It'd be awesome if instead of this clunky workaround, we'd be able to just configure the FeatureReader/reader to only read a maximum of 6000 features per minute, or something along those lines.
With the release of FME 2022 the 3DTiles writer contains the option to generate a texture atlas for each model. This is really great functionality and something I've been wanting to see for a while.It would be great to see this functionally extended to all 3D Formats - Alternatively a transformer such and an "AppearenceMerger" or "TextureAtlasGenerator" would be really helpful.
GeometryReplacer has an option for "EncodedPolyline". This supports polylines encoded to Google's documented 5 decimal places. But I have a polyline encoded to 6 decimal places, and so had to use PythonCaller and some ugly hacks to get a WKT formatted polyline.Why am I using 6 decimal places? I wanted to throw around the idea of adding a job board on this site. With knowledge.safe.com being the premier location for FME analysts, developers, and decision makers to find anything related to questions why not add a help wanted/help needed page. The quality of people here is one of the highest pedigree and most active of many technical forums I've been a part of in my career. I have found myself recently on both sides of the fence... needing to find work, short-term/long-term consulting and at times needing to hire a short-term expert to compliment or supplement my own abilities. I've used sites like Hired, Upwork, elance, etc... to find work, but by having an FME centric job board, both contractors and employers would know exactly what they are getting. Maybe include something like a "Twitter Verified Account" checkbox next to their name for FME Certified Professionals and Trainers. With the 'tag' system in place, I would be able to find a specific type of FME person I need to contract. For example, I need and FME Certified Professional with SQL and DBA experience. With other sites I've had various success, but the FME community is quite tight-knit. The trust-factor is already built in through interactions with the community and I propose and opportunity to take it one step further. Safe would act as the broker with no liability, essentially it is just making the connection with FME being the common factor. The LRS functionality in FME need something in the lines of the Calibrate Routes toolbox in ArcGIS.It should have two input ports:POINTSLINESTransformer parameters should include:Group ByTolerance in ground unitsAttribute name containing measure/calibration valueInterpolate between missing calibration points?Extrapolate before calibration points?Extrapolate after calibration points?Output should be line features with measures applied from the point dataset.
Create a Reader and Writer for QGIS Metadata file (QMD) which is a form of XML. We would use this to insert/update our spatial catalogue without scraping data from the QMD files created by our QGIS users.
