Shape the future of FME with your ideas
Open ideas have been reviewed by our Product Management and are open for commenting and voting.
When setting up the security of a role, it would be useful if one could temporarily "switch" to that role's access, to verify everything , without having to log out as the admin and back in as the user with that role.
This idea originated from a Q&A post: https://knowledge.safe.com/questions/30088/are-there-efforts-underway-to-support-fields-of-ty.htmlLet's move it here so we can get some votes. This developement item is on our to-do list. Knowing how many people are interested in this enhancement helps us with prioritizing. (The previous target of 2017 was moved, in favor of items that had higher priority.)It would also help to know if you are interested in reading Lookup fields or writing them as well. Any comments on this would be much appreciated.
***Note from Migration:*** Original Title was: File geodatabase writer - set coded domain field width but use existing domain definition At present when creating a feature class field in a file geodatabase for a field that uses a coded domain, the 'Create Domain' box has to be ticked to enable the user to set the field width within the writer feature type. This currently necessitates providing a domain definition as well as the field width, however if the domain already exists in the target geodatabase we don't want to have to recreate the definition and FME will use the existing definition for that domain anyway when it sees the domain already exists. It would be useful to have the ability to use an existing domain and also set the field width, but not have to provide a domain definition. An example use case is where multiple new feature classes need to be created, these will all share a field with the same domain. The domain is created once in the file geodatabase outside of FME (ArcCatalog), then the feature types for all new feature classes in FME use that existing domain name without then having to define it in each feature type, and all that needs to be specified is the field width.
Safe is concentrating a lot to enhance FME user experience, but sometimes I think a poll would be good to get more feedback from the community about the enhancements before they get into the FME releases. By far most of the updates are great, but sometimes a bit cumbersome update gets to a release, before the community has had a chance to tell its opinion. E.g. the composite test UI change in Tester 2019 is not so popular at least among Finnish FME users.Idea: Safe to create polls for bigger UI changes in Workbench or transformers.
We are trying to connect to a PI database from OSIsoft and use tables for join to GIS geometry. I know PI can go into a SQL server but we dont have that set up so have to go directly into their database. I dont see any readers for this format. Has any user been able to connect to the PI backend datasets with FME? Any help would be great, thanks.
Add a reader/writer for the Building Collaboration Format as defined by the buildingSMART alliance.
The new format for the Argumeted Reality (* .fmear) gives many possibilities for beautiful mobile applications. Unfortunately, we do not want to recommend the general FMEAR-app to our customers. We would rather implement our own native apps. But an API would have to be available for that. Are there any plans from Safe Software?
I would love to see a Bentley MX reader, or actually a Genio reader.
Add the capability to search for columns and values in the Feature Information window in Data Inspector.
It is currently possible to download individual (or multiple selected) files from the Resources page of the FME Server Web UI. Please vote for this idea if you would like FME Server to support downloading entire folders. One example would be to download the entire Logs folder.
As an FME Desktop Author, I want to be able to create workflows that connect to and process up to 1,000,000 messages per hour from an Apache Kafka stream, so that I can manage and enrich data from my IoT devices that use this protocol.
Connecting to HDFS is now in FME Desktop 2018As of the FME 2018.0 release, we have added the HDFSConnector transformer as a technology preview. This means that while it’s not quite ready for prime time yet, it is available to take for a test run. We’d like to call on anyone interested in this new transformer and especially anyone who voted on any HDFS, Hadoop, Hive enhancements for this to try this transformer and let us know what you think.Give us your feedbackWe’re actively working on developing more integration with Hadoop systems and we want to hear from you!How would you like to use FME in a Hadoop setting? How are you using Hadoop and what formats are you using to store your data? Does the HDFS connector meet your needs or do you need some more functionality like a Hive, Hbase, Oozie, or Spark connector? Would you like to be able to trigger a Hadoop command or execute a query once an upload was complete? If so, what would that look like? Please post your feedback as a comment back to this idea. How does it work? The HDFSConnector uses your HDFS account credentials (either via a previously defined FME web connection, or by setting up new FME web connection right from the transformer) to access the file storage service.Depending on your choice of actions, it will upload or download files, folders, and attributes; list information from the service; or delete items from the service. On uploads, path attributes are added to the output features. On List actions, file/folder information is added as attributes.https://www.youtube.com/embed/85RxCTjdquo
***Note from Migration:*** Original Title was: Automatically create a commit when publishing/republishing a workbench to Server The current version control implementation in FME Server is pretty good. I'd like to see it integrated into the FME Desktop publishing workflow too. If you have enabled version control on the FME Server, it would be nice if each publish/republish from FME Desktop automatically resulted in a commit. That would require allowing the user to enter a commit message somewhere in the publish/republish dialog boxes.
I like to use the Insert Junction shortcutCtrl + Alt + JExcept it's really difficult to do with one hand - almost impossible with just left hand - can it be made easier please?
I have many entities with DATE attributes. When I have no value, I set them to null (NullAttributeMapper). But DateTimeConverter generates a WARN for each null value and rejects entities, so the logfile is very big and its very slow.I would like a parameter to ignore null values in DATE attributes (don't log them) and maybe a new output port for null values in DateTimeConverter.
***Note from Migration:*** Original Title was: Add snapshot button on the toolbar, to capture the canvas content, easy to share with colleagues I usually use the free snipping tool, to send snapshots and collaborate with colleagues. I wish there's a Snapshot button on the toolbar, it will be less buttons to use and just easy to take the snapshot of the canvas and send to email, Slack or Skype messaging..etc, may be just call it Camera, haha..
Hello,I think it's time for the SpatialRelator to get a well deserved upgrade to work with 3D surfaces and solids. I would love to use FME for our daily BIM workflows, but get frequently frustrated because all the spatial join tools are obviously designed with 2D in mind.8/10 of all my BIM workflows are just about 3D containers:Generate container objects for rooms, grids, sectors, levels, buildings.Collects all non container objects using containers.Assign container ids for relations.etc.Please, dear FME gods...Basically just a mesh/mesh collision test.Needs a tolerance.A speed/quality setting would be amazing.I know, I can work around this by using a CenterPointReplacer with a Clipper for an inclusion test, or by reducing the problem to a 2D plane, but a mesh/mesh test is way better. So many possiblities...
It would be nice, when viewing an individual Idea, to see its state without having to be logged in. When viewing the list of 'All ideas' the state of each individual Idea is shown regardless of being logged in or not.
