Who owns the workbench?

Hi all, Not sure if this is even the place for this question, but this arose recently in my workplace and it would be good to get some thoughts. I work in a consultancy, and use FME daily for spatial and non-spatial data analytics. Sometimes I create workbenches that are re-usable for different clients to achieve the same goal. My question is, when I am working for a client and develop a workbench on a project they are paying for, who owns that workbench? Is it me (the author), my company (who owns the FME licence), or the client (who is paying for the project)? It's worth stating that the contract we have with the client is only asking for outputs such as reports and visuals, and does not explicitly cover the workbench itself. Any thoughts?

Number parameter not working as expected - FME server 2021.1.1

I'm not sure whether this is a bug or not. I have a number parameter configured like this - However, there seems to be some sort of floating point issue when accepting a value at input -A few weeks ago this was working fine on the same machine running the same FME server version. Not sure if anyone knows what could be causing this?Thanks

Trying to convert a Geojson - mapbox tv format.

Hello, I am just a month or so into using this tool. I have a task that requires me to transform Geojson to the Mapbox Vector format so we can use on our mapbox tileserver - min zoom 15/18 with about 4 or so attributes. I am told Mapbox requires a uniqueId and so I am providing it in an integer format. Within this task, there are only 10 simple 'house shapes' from the GeoJson dataset.I am required to provide the unique id for each parcel within so I am perplex why 10 rows of data convert into 15 just using the following base design (omitted functional details)NOTE: Id 10 is duplicated and the smaller shape is created out of thin air.If there is a generalizer that can remove that I have not been able to find it. However, if I change my min/max zoom - remove the generalizer it works with 10 rows. Min/Max 7/15The min/max requirement is solid and they want it rendered exact.Am I over complicating please let me know. Thank you,

How to create a label based on a line based on a relationship between 2 points

I have shapes that butt up against each other and I need to create labels at the edge where the two shapes meet. These shapes could contain up to a large number on incalculable edges that meet, for example the edges of state polygons. I figure my best guess is to take the shape and create a center point in the middle of the shape that is always inside the polygon. I then take the polygon and chop them so I have individual lines. Then I can take the points and compare them where they have different names and identify the point of intersection between these points along the edge lines.I am probably overthinking but trying to figure out the best way. See simple example explanation below.Example.The left shape I call Shape A. The right shape I call Shape B. I have identified the centers of each shape creating points. How to draw a line between 2 points.

I need to create lines between points. I had seen an article for similar in a different post saying a PointConnector was the way to go (Draw lines between points (safe.com)) but when I try to insert the PointConnector it puts in a LineBuilder which doesn't work. I need the end result to be something similar to the screenshot below where an individual line is drawn between every single point. How can I do this?

Rule based selection of tables in FeatureReader?

I would like to select only tables with certain strings in their table names when running a FeatureReader. So something akin to:WHERE TABLE_NAME LIKE '%searchstring%'Is this doable? And if so, how?

How to create a center point from multiple features grouped by an attribute

I have a large data set that has been read from multiple autocad drawing files. At the current stage each feature has an attribute "project_num". There are many feautres (usually lines) for each project_num. I would like to get this down to a single "centroid coordinate" (preferably center of gravity) for all of the lines from each project_num. CentrePointReplacer will generate a single point for every feature.I tried FeatureMerger but am having problems. Both the Supplier and Requestor are set to "project_num". I have set the Feature Merge Type to geometry and checked "process Duplicate Suppliers" (build polygons) but get the same number of merged features as the input. If I use the "group processing" option, I still get the same number of merged features. My current workaround is to use the DuplicateFilter before sending it to CenterPointReplacer. I have also tried creating a point cloud from all the resulting CenterPoints and

Autocad writer mirror's some entities!

I am playing around with FME to see if I can use it to convert autocad dwg files that use colour based plot styles to named plot styles (CTB to STB). I have attached a simple workspace that has an autocad reader and then sends it to a writer. No transformations. The writer uses a template file that uses our standard STB file for plotting. The converted file is mostly okay, but for some reason some of the leaders are way out of place. After some investigation, I found out that they are mirrored on the X axis. If I insert the converted drawing over the original with X scale factor set to -1 those leaders end up exactly where they should be. What's going on?

Calculate sag on transmission lines. Does anyone have any sag calculation experience in FME. The formula looks like it should be quite easy to implement in FME but not sure if it is that straight forward to generate the geometry of the transmission

"WHERE" Clause for ESRI Geodatabase doesn't work

I am trying to use a "Where" clause for the reader but it does not identify the field in the existing geodatabase. I have a Esri Geodatabase connection named vg_esri and I wanted to select a table named vg_esri.sde.mm_poly_gh and select a polygon wíth its id polygon_id = 852364, I have used SELECT polygon_id FROM vg_esri.sde.mm_poly_gh WHERE polygon_id = '852364';Could not find the features in the table 'sde.mm_poly_gh'. One possible reason is that a WHERE clause was specified that references a column/field that does not exist in the table. The error number from ArcObjects is: '-2147216081'. The error message from ArcObjects is: {Invalid SQL syntax [ERROR: syntax error at or near ";"LINE 1: ...FROM dg_esri.sde.mm_poly_gh WHERE polygon_id = '852364';)But I get this above error, What am I doing wrong, I cannot figure it out. Any input will be very help. Thank you...

PowerPoint to database

Hello,I've got a really challenging question received from a customer !The domain is Heritage buildings protection.An architect/historian evaluates the value of buildings and gives them a mark.He then presents his proposal in a PowerPoint :Identification infoDescriptionMarkLabeletc. PicturesThe proposal is reviewed in several sessions, with different people. The mark may be upgraded or downgraded, the label changed, etc. Once validated, the data is to be captured in an SDE geodatabase. Presently, this is done in two different ways :ManuallyManually copying the data to Excel and it is imported in GDB with FMEBut in both cases, there is a non profit-adding step, which is to manually copy the data.Does anyone out there have an idea how to skip this step ?Could the PowerPoint presentation be structured in such a way (with keywords for instance) that could make the content recognizable and importable directly ?I have thought of different ways but I'd rather keep it open for your inp

Change Detector keeps identifying features as 'updated' even though the same exact data is being compared

I'm currently using the 'change detector' transformer to compare incoming data with an existing database, and my challenge is that the comparison always seems to spit out the features as being 'updated', even though I am testing by comparing essentially the same exact datasets, so I expect it should be exiting out as 'unchanged' instead. The inputs are coming from a Portal feature service and a geodatabase When I toggle the 'Check geometry' off, it seems to work correctly and detect the features were 'unchanged', so I'm guessing it's some slight changes to the geometry that may be causing features to be seen as 'updated'. I'm already using the 'coordinate rounder' to alleviate some slight variations, but are there other approaches I can try to help figure this out? Thanks!

Good morning, I would need to do a spatial join on FME. On QGIS, the tool is called "Join attributes by location". I would like to find an FME transformer that does the same as the QGIS tool. Thank you for your reply

How do I add Multiple Values on a line to one total value?

I have a network of (electricity) lines (306 in total) and with Neigbourhoudfinder i determined what line is collest for all 800 proporties in a small village. It gave me and x and y coordinate on the line. Now I want to determine a total value per line (values of all properties that have an x and y coordinate) on the line. How can i achieve this?

Dynamic Statistics Calculator

Is there anyway to configure the StatisticsCalculator on a dynamic set of attributes?I would like to generate a histogram of attribute values, where the attribute name is determined at runtime. Bonus if I can process multiple attributes at once.

SharePoint Online connector - 2 factor authentication

Hi, Just after a bit of advise. Within my organisation i am trying to request an app to connect to sharepoint. When this work on FME desktop i have to authorise with my own identity and it works fine. However, as my organisation has a 2 factor authentication policy which requires me to enter a text message password, i need to reauthenticate every 2 weeks. Would this be the same with FME server, requiring me to reauthenticate every 2 weeks (as not useful for a process i want to leave on a schedule)? or when i authenticate the app from FME server, would remove this reauthentication requirement? if not is there anyway around this? I would do trial and error to find out, but its taking me along time to get through internal processes, and want to ensure after the effort it take to get there, its going to work as hoped. Issues with the LineCombiner - possible bug

I'm finding that the LineCombiner is causing issues when combined with an AreaBuilder. The non-combined lines in a workspace I have created successfully create areas but, when the lines are combined, they then make up incomplete areas. You can see in the below image that, once one of the line datasets go through the LineCombiner, they do not successfully create the areas. Is this a bug?

bad allocation in attribute exposer import from feature cache

Hi,With FME(R) 2022.2.4.0 (20230303 - Build 22792 - WIN64) I am trying to load 1730 DWG files with attributes. The feature reader reads all the files and generates more than 81 million elements. The next step would be to expose the attributes from the DWG files. When I try to Import the attribute list from feature cache I receive the following error:An error occurred. Making order in line segments

For a school assignment I am trying to make a functional FME model. As topic I chose the electrical grid. I chose a village were there are 8 transformation stations and about 300 different line segments. For alle 300 lines I determent which transformation station is closest. I know want to number the line segments that "belong" to the same line. e.g. a1 to a10. Is that possible?

Create empty feature class in file geodatabase with coordinate system

How do I set the coordinate system of a dynamically created empty feature class (polygon) in a file geodatabase? I store dynamic attribute names and data types in a spreadsheet, import those into an AttributeCreator > then create the empty feature class using a FeatureWriter, but the output feature class says coordinate system is 'Unknown' when I open it in Data Inspector.

When reading the zip shape file which is in the form of "filename.shp.zip", I am getting an error as "not a sufficient length (0 bytes) to be a valid Shapefile and may not be read", the file size is nearly 1 GB.

When I am reading the files which are of size 192 MBit is working fine but when I am reading the file which is of the size 958 MB , getting an error. I am getting error in fme server while reading the particular file . Is there anyway to solve this error?

How to separate points on the same drive route for a From journey and To journey.

This might very simple to tackle but i have not found a solution to it. I have a set of GPS points along a drive route as shown the the diagram, the arrows indicate the route drive direction and i was wondering how to group these two sets of points.if drive route A was from distance 10-1 and drive route B was from distance 1-10. The screenshot below is what i have tried, I only get (distance 1-10) grouped the second set of data get added to the group, i.e, if the value of group 1 was 0, then next dataset will be 1,2,3, etc. Any help will be highly appreciated.
