Question of the Week: Parallel Processing in the ShortestPathFinder

Happy new year, FMEers.Our question-of-the-week was posted just a few hours before I started to review the week. It's about parallel processing and the ShortestPathFinder transformer. Question of the WeekQ) I was hoping to speed up my ShortestPathFinder calculations with "Parallel Processing", but I don't notice any speed improvements. The 2018.1 documentation says "If it is enabled, a process will be launched for each group specified by the Group By parameter." However, the most recent documentation does not mention parallel processing at all. Am I missing something? Asked here by @magnus A) Yes, there are a number of points. Global FME licence server hosted on the cloud by SafeNew

Currently, using a FME floating licence requires each individual organisation to set up a dedicated licence server : https://docs.safe.com/fme/html/FME-Form-Documentation/FME-Form-Admin-Guide/FMEInstallation/About_Floating_Licenses.htmThe setup of such a licence server is, per se, not very complicated, but frequently involves discussions / challenges wrt setup of a dedicated VM / re-use of an existing VM, security on the opening of ports, etc.., which also often require the involvement of a tech profile (e.g. system administrator).Wouldn’t it be easier to have a global licence server hosted on the cloud, and managed directly by Safe, which could be accessed without any specific tech challenges by all individual FME instances ?If some organisations still prefer to have an internal licence server, it could also be interesting to allow both options : a licence server managed by the organisation itself or the global Safe licence server.

Flow can't access template files

Hi All,I have been building workspaces that get data from an api and write that data to Excel, using Template files. FME Flow can’t access the location of the template file, so what I did was: Make them a published parameter and publish. Then once one Flow, I change the parameters to the Flow resources path where I uploaded the template file as well. I do this in the Workspace properties. However, this doesn’t work, when running the workspace, the log says it can’t open the Template File and still pointing to the old/local location of the template file.What would be the right workflow here?

How to write scientific e notation number as a decimal real number to .CSV

I’m using an FME FeatureWriter to read a content of an Excel file containing various values, including decimal numbers, some of them small with more then 5 decimal zeroes.The FME, apparently, handles these small numbers using scientific e notation.After processing the data, I write it into a CSV file using a FeatureWriter. The problem is, that the small numbers are written in their scientific notation form, and not as real decimal numbers. This is causing an issue further down the line.I tried various things to force the FME to write the numbers as decimals:forcing datatype of the affected attributes in the FeatureWriter to Decimal or Real using AttributeManager to change the datatype of the affected attributes to Real, Decimal and even String forcing the datatype of the affected attributes in the FeatureWriter to String changing the datatype of the affected cells in the Excel file to TextNothing helped.I tried to find a String or Math function that would achieve that, but I’m not sure

Using lists efficiently

Hi folks,I’m hoping this is relatively straightforward and I’m making this more difficult than it seems. I’m collecting images in the field and trying to store the images as blobs in a database. There can be up to 6 images for each property. In the below example only 3 images were collected. I’ve got to the point in my workspace where I’ve joined the images (as blobs) to the survey data, but I’ve got 3 features instead of one. I have a unique survey id. How do merge the data so that I have one feature, with up to 6 images stored as blobs? I’m trying and failing to use lists in the most efficient way possible; via the Aggregator then List Element Filter, then somehow bring the data back together, but this is the point I’m stuck on. Update spreadsheet using FeatureWriter?

Hello,I am attempting to use the FeatureWriter to update a spreadsheet. From the screenshot you can see I have Addresses Input into which is pushed 3 updates and 95,393 from the original spreadsheet. The Output port, Addresses adds the 3 records to the original spreadsheet making for 95,396 records. Is there a way to get FeatureWriter to update the spreadsheet so the output is 95,393 with the 3 records in 95,393 updated not added to the output? The FeatureWriter is writing to the same spreadsheet in the Addresses Reader.

Hello,Do you know why autocad_color parameter is allowed from 0 to 256 for Autodesk Autocad DWG/DWF writer but is strictely limited to 1-255 for Autodesk Autocad Map 3D Object Data writer ?It prevents to write entities with ByLayer (256) or ByBlock (0) Color parameter in addition with OD tables

Hi all, I had build a workspace in FME dekstop using httpcaller to get data from an api and its working. When i publish this on the server, then i get the following errors. 3D mode not supported on this platform.

One of my teammembers suffered a hardware crash recently. He got a replacement laptop from IT but it’s performance is terrible. When opening the Inspector, 3D mode returns next image:It is a Lenovo Thinkpad P15 with an i7, 64GB ram and an NVIDEA RTX A2000 GPU. Windows 11.My machine is almost the same spec and works flawless. Windows 10.I know this question is not really FME related but what would be logical things to check / try to get it running the inspector in 3D?What we did was install the latest videocard driver, but this did not change anything. Our IT is only staffed to solve Office365 problems, no help from there.

FME 2024 RasterStatisticsCalculator Incorrect Results

I am clipping a raster and then running RasterStatisticsCalculator. The results are completely wrong to what I get in ESRI using zonal statistics and the only stat that is correct is the max value.FME Results: When I export the raster and bring it into ESRI, cell values are different and zonal stats are different Zonal stats results from ESRI: I would appreciate some help in how best to run zonal stats in FME. How to Create a Rectangle Using Top-Right and Bottom-Left Coordinates in FME?

Error Handling in FME - Retry running workspace

Hi Team,I am new to FME and would appreciate if you could help me by giving some tips on Error handling in FME, Below is my scenario,My FME application reads the data from Database and writes to arcGIS Feature layer. Python FMEObjects Missing DLL files

Hi - I am hoping someone can help.Apologies in advance for the long message.I am using FME Workbench 2022.2.8.I am trying to set up a workspace that has three readers (using a SQL database that retrieves data from three separate tables) connected to a PythonCaller and then a feature writer (connected to the Python caller) that writes the data back into a SQL database.I need all the readers to have finished before the PythonCaller is executed as it uses all of them in the script.I initially tried to run this using the built in Translator Python3.9+ but every time I did It said no module named pandas.I attempted to configure my own python.exe that I have as part of anaconda navigator (2024.10.1).I created an environment called fme_env and set the Python version to 3.9.I was able to successfully set up all this, but I encountered the no module called FMEObjects error.I went into my FME installation path and there was a folder called fmeobjects and inside that there were several version bu

How to close open volumes after a clipping transformation in Workbench 2022?

I used Workbench 2022 to clip buildings (composite surfaces) onto an area with the clipper transformer. The buildings at the clipper boundary however are open geometries (refer to screenshot). How can I insert closure surfaces to each boundary building to create closed volumes?I tried to coerce the composite surfaces to a solid and coerce them back to surfaces after the clipping, but the method is not reliable, because most of the solids become faulty. Save polygon as gpx

Hi,I’m trying to save a polygon as a GPX track and am running into an issue. Here’s what I’ve done so far:Converted the polygon to a line using GeometryCoercer Reprojected to EPSG:4326 Created track_id, source, and name attributesThe translation completes successfully, but when I try to open it, I only see the attributes and no geometry. JSONFragmenter "Prefix New Attribute" not working. Bug or my fault?

Title says it all, Basically I have a workflow:Adding a prefix to the new attribute results in the new attribute not to have any values.Running with prefix:Running without prefix: Also if I add a prefix, for example _, and have a new field I wish to extract, i.e. “ID” which should result in a new column “_ID” with values, it instead replaces the original id field with the new values, totally ignoring the requested “_” prefix. Workaround is to rename the original values with a prefix before extracting second set of values from nested json.

Calculate Geometry and export an image

I have a workbench where I am reading data from a SDE looking for rows updated in the last 7 days then exporting to an excel file. That is working well. I’m also using mapnikrasteriser to create a map and export a tiff image however the new records have no geometry defined so won't show up on my map. What would be the best option to calculate geometry for those new records?
