If i have an outline of the UK and coordinates dotted around the UK represented as points, is it possible to create polygons which 'colour in' the UK based on the closest point? and if so, what approach should I be taking?

Ultimately, i aim to end up with a map where you know depending on your location, where your nearest point is, represented by area.

Yes, the VoronoiDiagrammer to generate the areas and then clip them with the outline. It just handles as-the-crow-flies situations so doesn't take in account roads and I'm also not sure what it does with islands.
