We’re often working with the Define Geometry parameter on FME Flow to allow a user to submit specific geometry to a workspace.
I’d like to suggest two enhancements:
- Make the initial bounds an optional limitation. You can set the area the map initially shows but there’s no limitation to where on earth the user can actually draw geometry. I would like to see an optional check box that says “limit geometry to those bounds”. Let’s face it, if I use this to allow people to download from a dataset that covers The Netherlands, there’s little point in allowing them to draw something all the way in Canada and then get no results. Catching those issues at the start of the process is preferable.
- Add an option “max area” setting for polygon and box features (and max length for lines I guess). Again to prevent having to explain things to users afterward. We often include a max area limitation ourselves for workspaces where we allow data download from larger datasets to prevent somebody trying to get the whole thing (it happens). If the users can see this when they’re drawing the geometry that would be a plus.
