This article, AutoCAD to IFC Conversion Example, is my favourite go-to when I'm writing to IFC. I believe you'll need to create property set definitions and then set attributes as traits on the geometry. I find it helpful to download the workspace from the article to fiddle with, in particular the two bookmarks to do with the property sets. While this example works with DWG to IFC, the attributes will have a similar process, and it sounds like you're already handled the geometry which is a solid starting point!
