Use FME to connect to SQL Server Analysis Services data cube

Have you tried connecting to it as if it was a standard MSSQL DB?

@hkingsbury Hi. I am able to connect as a SQL DB but it is the other data that is stored within the cube that I am needing. Basically, I am wanting to access the calculations that the cube has stored within (so, I am sure I am not explaining this correctly, but I believe they are called “Measures”). When connecting to the cube from a Microsoft product like Excel, you can use the power of the cube to pull “pre-calculated” values - it is these pre-calculated values that I am after. Mainly so I don’t have the replicate the logic to calculate these values.

Right, I think I follow (not familiar with cubes). From what I can tell its an additional layer that references the underlying DB, so FME and Cube are connecting directly to the data (the DB) and you’re wanting to connect FME to Cube to get the measures and other derived data.

It might be worth touching base with Safe to see if there is something in the works

Hi @bozboswell, thanks for exploring this idea here.  I’m not familiar with SQL Server Analysis Services, and have not come across any FME users connecting to it.  However, I’ve created this post on our Ideas Forums, if you wouldn’t mind providing more insight into how you would like to leverage FME with SQL Server Analysis Services.
