Looks great. I'm sure a lot of thought has been put into the improvements.
Hi Rob,
One bug fix/update I would like to see is to the daily email stream. I unsubscibed a while back from the daily email but would like to change that back.
On the email settings, the only checkbox/toggle is for questions that I post or answer. Can there be a checkbox for the daily email as well?
Also, as a potential enhancement, could there be an option for a weekly/monthly "top" questions or summary?
Regards,
Matthew Brucker
Thanks, Kathy and Matthew,
The changes that we have made have been our first try at moving closer to the baseline Salesforce.com model for communities. As such, we uncovered a number of interesting artefacts while migrating form our original deployment.
It has been an interesting ride moving from the old Google group 'FMEtalk' to our present configuration and along the way we were playing leapfrog with the Salesforce developments, sometimes we were actually ahead of the curve.
However, we believe now, that staying closer to the baseline of the underlying technology will allow us to offer more functionality and hopefully sooner.
Thanks for your suggestions and please keep them coming. We do want to make this Community site a useful tool for customers and fans of FME.
We hope that you (the old guard champions of the FME community) will also find the addition of Chatter (for non-support related conversations) a useful new addition.
Rob,
Looks good but I'm struggling with this update...
I received two emails this morning saying someone replayed to one of my questions. The first email is from Safe Community with a hyperlink to view the reply but when I click it, it says "
https://safe.secure.force.com/ is down for maintenance". The second email from FMEpedia Community also has a link to view the entire conversation but when I click that one I get "URL No Longer Exists".
I then logged into FMEpedia and tried finding the questions I've asked. I clicked on the show "My Questions" option and it says "You haven't asked or followed any questions yet." Yesterday all I had to do to find my questions was click on my user name at the top right to view my questions. OK, now what. All I'm trying to do is find the questions I've asked on FMEpedia and it's turning into a goose hunt.
Am I missing something or is this update still being refined?
Thanks,
Jon
Jon,
Sorry to hear that you were struggling with the upgrade and we appologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.
There were a few hiccups in the roll-out and some of these were related to the timing of Answers that may have been processed during the roll-out period. Also, as you noted the URL took you to a broken link. We believe that we have corrected the double forward slash "//" that was causing this error and we are continuing to refine and tune the configuration, hopefully for the better.
We really appreciate your patience as we work to make the adjustments and hope that you will continue to participate and provide us with feedback.
thanks,
Robert
Hi,
thank you for upgrading the forums, much appreciated. Looks pretty good.
It seems, however, that it's still not possible to edit your posts. Or am I overlooking something?
Another thing, it would be very nice if "follow" was automatic when replying on a topc.
David
I concur with David. It would be good to edit/update a post.
Am I blind? I cant find the button to ask a new question... all I can do is review old posts.
All answers and threads on this forum are visible to the general public but if you would like to post a question then registration or log in is required. (this is simply to avoid any spam or automated bots). Once you are logged in and ask a question you will see a short list of suggestions and below that a button that allows you to continue and post your question if you do not like the auto responses.
Ok, I finally found how to ask question. It is written in the box "What you would like to know" so to me it is more a search box than a tool to ask question.
Also, the link I receive in email when someone answer a question is not bringing me to the post. Its a broken link
See: https://safe.secure.force.com/AnswersQuestionDetail?id=906a0000000cwMbAAI
Other small thing, maybe it would be good to add a href to full size images when posted. I was frustrated to not been able to read image because it was too small until I found that I could do a right click -> show image to see it full size.
I agree with BGeorges regarding linking to full size pictures, that would be really nice.
I would also love to have a possibility of formatting a paragraph as code, i.e. fixed width font and no automatic line breaks. Perhaps even a shaded background.
Looks great however I was hoping for more improvements that got suggested after the launch of the Community Answers more then 1 year ago. Looking at this thread (
https://safecommunity.force.com/CommunityAnswers#!/feedtype=SINGLE_QUESTION_SEARCH_RESULT&id=906a0000000cj7aAAA) there are still some wanted features. Notice that I have not written the things that are fixed so there are many improvements over the old forum!
1. Widescreen - mode. To see more text better
2. Give a notification when someone replies to a post you replied to (not only posts that you have posted to)
3. Edit-post
And also from
http://fmepedia.safe.com/AnswersQuestionDetail?id=906a0000000cZlfAAE . Have a look through those to see if there are anything you can improve in this version also.
And regarding non-important details (unless you are in Germany?) regarding "titles" - calling David R. for a "Phenom" is great - however I do not consider myself an "Apprentice" :)
Also it would be nice to tag a post or an answer with default TAGS like: Name of Transformers (ie Bufferer) or name of Reader/Writer (ie Shape or 3rd format like SOSI). And then be able to look at all posts with tags of the transformer Bufferer or Shape etc.
If you have an email with this link
https://safe.secure.force.com/AnswersQuestionDetail?id=906a0000000cwMbAAI can you please confirm that it was sent before January 29th, 2014? That would be the old link, all emails afterwards should have
https://safecommunity.force.com/ as the domain instead of
https://safe.secure.force.com/
To get reply notifications on a question, that you did not create, just select the Follow option.
Please add the time (UTC - or if possible Local timezone of the user) on each post - not only the Month Day, Year.
Shane: I got a link from that After January 29th, 2014 in my e-mail. With the text:
You have received a new reply to your Question:
Reply from Katherine Ross:
https://safe.secure.force.com/AnswersQuestionDetail?id=906a0000000cuWMAAY
SigTill: Thank you I found where those were coming from and disabled them. The new Reply to a question you are following alert should be a different email now with a correct link. They will come from fmepedia@safe.com.
I see that Safe Software employees have a special "flair" associated with their user name and avatar. Very handy.
Would it be possible to have the same for Certified FME Professionals / Trainers?
David,
While we don't have this yet. You are absolutely on the right track. This is something that we want too. We can't give you a time frame yet but it's definitely on our list.
Auto-login would be great - so I dont have to type e-mail/password every time
I'm observing the Chatter. It's wonderful but nicknames seem not to be displayed there. I feel it's hard to find a person in the Chatter even if he / she is well known in the Answers.
All, we have fixed the issue with My Questions not returning your old questions. My Questions will return any questions you posted and any you are following.
Also, your Total Posts should now be correct.
