Hello I am newbie to FME. I have been a GIS Developer (.NET, Python, JavaScript, HTML) in the past 9 years. I started a GIS/IT consulting job a couple of months ago which requires FME experience. I wanted to ask here about suggestions of how to quickly get familiar to these 400 transformers. Should I test each of the top ranking transformers? or should I starting reading the transformer Reference Guide? Does FME provide a python API or mudule like ArcPY? any tips or suggestions to get me started would be much apprecaited.

I like this chapter in the training manual listing the top 25 most valuable transformers I think its good for a beginner

I know it does seem a bit daunting at first, if you get a good grasp on 30 to 50 transformers that you regularly use then as you complete different projects you will come across additional transformers week by week. Don't expect to learn 400+ straight away. Each project you complete requires a different set of transformers, Some you will never use!! So maybe have a look at this list and then build on it from here.

The reference guide is a good place to start, but just playing around with FME is too!

Good answer. I can add that the Transformer Gallery in the Workbench lists the transformers per category. You should probably pick a couple of categories that are of particular interest to your projects and read up extra on those (e.g. if you expect a lot of work with point clouds then read up on all the transformers in that category).
