split 3D planes with 3D lines

Hi ​@zilvinas_fme great question! If you want to use the Clipper in 3D the input data must be 3D solids. This means if your data is essentially vector data with Z values the Clipper will only clip in 2D. You can easily transform your data into 3D solids in FME using our various transformers including PipeReplacer & Extruder. 

What does your data look like right now? What errors are you getting? What version of FME are you using?

I used your advice and extrude the original lines and planes. Unfortunately, these solids with clipper in various settings did not produce intersection results. Objects entered into Clipper are rejected or the original objects are transferred to the results.

Hi ​@zilvinas_fme still curious to know what your data looks like. What’s the rejection message on those rejected features? Are both of your input data in the same coordinate system? If you inspect two features that you think should intersect at the same time, do they? 
 

There could be a number of issues, but this should get us started. If this is stopping production for you, you could also submit a support ticket for us to look at more closely! 

Hi ​@evieatsafe. I am attaching test data: terrain and volume. My task is to divide/cut a volume into two volumes based on terrain.

And what about support questions via ticket, if we have ArcGIS Pro with Interoperability license. How do I connect to the support system?

Hi ​@zilvinas_fme thanks for the data! I was able to clip the volume data. It’s not perfect, like it doesn’t account for slope, but it’s something. I’m attaching the workspace with the solution, screenshot below. Another solution to include slope could be to use a Bufferer on the relief to make it a solid to split the volume in half. This is also not perfect because it would not include the buffered portion. There’s probably more ways to solve this if anyone else wants to jump in, but I hope this gives you some ideas!
