Which version of FME Desktop/Flow supports “Microsoft SQL Server Spatial Reader/Writer”? I want to re-project MapInfo Tables in the GIS database.

Currently I’m using FME Desktop 2022.1. Is there any alternative transformer I can use to re project the objects in the live database?

Hello @sandanuwan, all verisons of FME Form & Flow should support reading & writing to Microsoft SQL Server Spatial.

In order to read from Microsoft SQL Server Spatial, we need to first establish a connection to the database. We can do this by creating a database connection in Tools > FME Options or directly in the reader. This article shows step-by-step instructions on how to create a database connection in FME Form.

If you are new to SQL Server & FME, I might suggest reviewing the following tutorials before getting started. Let me know if you need any further assistance, Kailin.

Thank you @kailinatsafe for the detailed reply. Appreciate it!

Any idea whether the transformer is available in FME Desktop 2022.1?

Is there a support page where I can check the transformer compatibility with particular versions of FME?

What is the exact name of the transformer so I can check?

Hello @sandanuwan, no worries at all - happy to help! There are multiple ways to add a reader to your workflow in FME Form. If you navigate to the ‘Readers’ menu, the drop down should include an option to ‘Add Reader’. You will need to add a Microsoft SQL Server Spatial Reader to the canvas. Within the Reader, the 'Connection' parameter will be red. Here, we can use the dropdown to 'Add a Database Connection'. Thus, a new window will appear & prompt you for all credentials required to connect to the SQL Server DB.

To review the general idea, there are 3 main objects that create a workflow in FME Form. First, the Reader, which will bring your data into the FME Form canvas. Once your data is in FME Form, we can transform it with Transformers if needed, or use a Writer to export or deliver the data to your selected destination.

I might recommend reviewing the following resources to get more familiar with Readers, Transformers, and Writers in FME Form:

FME formats are no longer edition or version specific, if you have a license you will be able to Read / Write to MS SQL Server. Let me know if you have any additional questions. Happy to help, Kailin.
