I am hoping someone can point out if FME has a "Save a Copy" feature for manually saving a back up copy of a workbench. I searched here in the community and elsewhere and found references to backup functions for FME Server Workspaces, but nothing specific to the desktop workbench.

Perhaps this function is called something else in FME speak so here's a description of my workflow:

When developing a workbench I periodically save a back-up, currently when I do this I go File > "Save As" and save the file with a sequential suffix like [filename]_ii.fmw then a while later I'll save another copy as [filename]_iii.fmw and later [filename]_iiii.fmw. Sometimes I'll tag a date on the end. As the project nears completion and its down to the final tweaks I find that I'm working out of a "master" .fmw that is simply [filename].fmw and when I save a back up I use "Save As", add the sequential suffix, then do "Save As" again and save it back to the "master" file name.

While this works fine, it breaks up my stream of thought. I'd rather just be able to click "Save a Copy", name that copy with the next sequential backup suffix and keep working in the master file. Seems like this nut has been cracked before and I just need someone to point it out.

Thank you!

Nope, it's either Save or Save As that you have to use so currently your workflow is the way to do it.

You can make an Idea for it though and see if you can get enough votes to make Safe consider it.

Thank you for confirming that I'm not crazy.

There's an idea for this, not very popular yet: https://knowledge.safe.com/content/idea/31794/add-option-file-save-copy-as.html
