I need to export several hundred MapInfo files into a single shapefile that retains all the individual geometry and attributes. Which transformer would be best?
You probably won't even need a transformer. When creating the MapInfo reader, specify that you want to use a "Single merged feature type":
For the input dataset you can use a wildcard, e.g. "<path>\\*.tab"
Then just connect that single reader feature type to your shape writer.

You don't need any transformers (assuming you have only one geometry type).
Have a single mapInfo reader with a single Merged Feature Type. Add the shapefile writer with the Shapefile Definition as Copy from Reader.
Change the shapefile name as desired.
