Error Running Translation error when extracting AutoCAD References

Hi,

I am using the AutoCAD Reader to extract external references from DWG files. When I get to the same file in the directory in results in an “Error running translation” error. However, if I run the Reader against the individual file, it works fine. I have removed the file from the directory and it then errors later on a different file. I believe this could be a memory issue? How can I resolve?

I am only running the Reader and no other Transformers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi @nimeshg,

Apologies for the delayed response, and thank you for your patience.

I’m sorry to hear you’re running into this issue! This issue appears similar to a known problem that was resolved in the FME Form 2025 release, where the Autodesk AutoCAD RealDWG Reader encountered errors when reading reference files. As a workaround, using the Autodesk AutoCAD DWG/DXF Reader in FME instead has proven effective.

To address the error, please consider upgrading to FME Form 2025+ or switching to the ACAD Reader and see if that resolves the problem. If the issue persists, please submit a ticket with Safe Software’s Support team so we can investigate this issue more thoroughly. When submitting your ticket, please provide the following (if available):

  • Any relevant log files (e.g. translation logs, job logs, fmeserver.log, etc.)
  • A sample of the source data used in your workspace or a template workspace (.fmwt) with the data.

Thank you again for your patience!
