Question

Convert KAP files

I've got some .KAP files which are missing spatial data and as such, I cannot convert them into something more useful like a .TIF image. I've been using FME which errors on these files with "Failed to specify the feature index as constraints on the reader". Has anyone come across this and found a solution? At this point, i'm happy just to convert to a non-spatial image format.

I have to say that I’ve never heard of Kap format and we don’t have a specific reader for it. What are you using to read it? Have you tried the BSB reader, which might work.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply. I found this article which informed my decision to try FME to convert from .kap to .tif or .jpg. https://www.reviversoft.com/file-extensions/kap. It does work on some .kap files. When i compare the .kap files that do convert with the others, the difference seems to be missing headers in those files. I think that must be the cause of the error I mentioned previously.

Thanks,

Neil

Please feel free to send some examples to our support/development teams at Safe, to see if we can figure out the issue. See safe.com/support

It might be that we can analyze the headers and ensure that they are all properly supported.
