Is there any way to add an attachment (sample code) to an answer to a community question?

Not currently no.
A workaround is to paste the code to http://pastebin.com/ and then add the link in your answer.

I was browsing old questions and felt on that one.

This is now possible by clicking the "Insert File" button:
