FME on Debian 10

Hi guys.

I would like to know if anyone has used FME on Debian 10? It was indicated to me that there is a problem with a library on Debian 10, but was not told what library it was, or if there is a workaround.

I was told "You may be able to deploy it but may encounter an issue with running workspaces "

Anyone know if this has been resolved?

Was that our support team that told you that? Yes, I see there are some library conflicts. One appears to have been resolved, but only in FME2020. So I would certainly suggest that is the better option. Of course, it's only a beta version now, which is an obvious drawback.

I don't know that I can say much more. I suspect it'll all be resolved by the time 2020 releases, but for now I think 2019 may have the issues mentioned. But I'll check with our developers to make sure.

For my own reference: FMEENGINE-59390

Hi Mark.

Thanks for the quick response. Is it possible to get an indication of which libs they are? Would like to do some investigation on my own.

Yes, it was your support staff.

I will try 2020, and see how it goes.

Pieter

Hi Pieter

My understanding is that it's a Java issue. I don't think Java 8 is compatible with or available for Debian 10. So we'll have to create a brand new FME installer for Deb 10, presumably compatible with its new Java version (11?). I found out the fix I mentioned is just the first step in that process, so whether it will help, or whether you can find a way around all this, I can't say.

Apologies for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, fixing this for Debian means a lot of updates all over the FME platform, which I think is why we took a cautious approach and planned for 2020.

We've got a set of builds for it, but they aren't being uploaded to the web site yet. I'm not sure why. I've asked and will let you know asap.

Hi @pjduplooy - I've uploaded the latest build to our ftp site where you should be able to access it. ftp.safe.com/outgoing is the location (or the direct link is this). Oddly, I can't seem to read it back! I think that's down to something on my computer, but if you do experience issues, do let me know.

Also... It's been through QA checks for Deb 10 so it should fine on that front. However, this is a beta build of FME2020. We're less than a month away from release, so it's nearly the final cut, but it still is technically a beta and you should treat it as such.

Hope this helps.

Mark

Hi guys

Sorry to reup this. Any chance of having FME working on Debian 10 Unstable. I use Debian 10 Unstable for the latest QGIS and other GIS software. FME does not work on Debian 10 Unstable, as Python 2 have been removed due to it being End of Life.

Regards

Pieter

Hello @pjduplooy,

Unfortunately, we only support Debian stable, not unstable. FME should sill work without Python 2 however. Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Kailin
