Hi Community! 👋 Welcome to Community 101. A series where we’ll be sharing quick, bite-sized insights about the community - things you might not know but that can help you get more value and connection here in the Community.Â
If you use the FME Community, you might not realize that we also have Special Interest Groups (SIGs). You’re not alone, many community members told us they didn’t know SIGs existed.
Currently, we have special interest groups for industries such as Utilities & Energy, Local Government, and Airports & Aviation.Â
What’s a SIG?Â
A Special Interest Group (SIG) is a smaller, focused space and private group within the FME Community centred around a specific industry.
SIGs are a place to:
- Connect with people working on similar challenges within your industry
- Learn how others are using FME in real-world scenarios
- Join industry-focused discussions and events
Think of SIGs as mini-communities inside the FME Community.
What happens in a SIG?
- Virtual meetups 2-3 times per year - check out the ones we have coming up this spring here!
- Ongoing discussions between members
- Industry-specific FME use cases
- A smaller, more focused space to learn from peers
You don’t need to attend events or post right away, many members join just to follow along, but hopefully you feel comfortable to join in/ask your own questions!Â
How to join a SIG
Joining only takes a minute:Â
- Make sure your logged into your Community Account
- Find Groups on the main menu
- Click the SIG you’re interested in
- Select Request to Join and someone from our team will approve the request
Once approved, you’ll have access to the group’s content and updates.
Do I need to be an expert?
Nope! SIGs are for:
- New FME users
- Experienced users
- Anyone curious about an industry
If it sounds interesting, join the hundreds of other FME Community members involved in our SIGs.Â
Don’t see your industry here yet? 👀
Vote in our recent poll, or leave a comment if your industry isn’t mentioned.
That’s it for now, see you next time for more Community 101 tips! 😊
