Unable to connect ESRI Geodatabae (File Geodb) reader between FME Flow 2025.0.3 and ArcGIS Pro 3.5.0

Once I have upgraded my ArcGIS Pro from version 3.4 to 3.5.0, I am suddenly unable to connect to a GDB file using the ESRI Geodatabae (File Geodb) reader, as I could before upgrading (when reinstalling ArcGIS Pro 3.4, all works again). I am currently using FME Form (version 2025.0.3) (Update: Apologies - the title reads Flow, but it should be Form! - I am unable to change the title with an edit though)., which connects as expected when I have ArcGIS Pro 3.4 installed. In FME the following output is given when trying to connect with the said reader:

"Unable to perform any licensing related tasks. Please check your Esri ArcGIS Compatibility workspace parameter, found in Navigator -> Workspace Parameters -> Translation. This 64-bit version of FME requires ArcGIS Desktop along with 64-bit Background Geoprocessing; ArcGIS Pro; or ArcGIS Enterprise. Refer to this this article http://fme.ly/qua for more details "

In the gallery, the said reader or writer is not greyed out.

I have tried all steps provided in the articles listed below, which includes running the installation “As Administrator”, although it still fails.

https://support.safe.com/hc/en-us/articles/25407476093837-ArcGIS-Licensing-Error-Unable-to-Perform-Licensing-Related-Tasks

I have also tried to set the Esri ArcGIS Compatibility from Auto to ArcGIS Pro in the Navigator-->Workspace Parameters-->Translation window, but this also does not help.

In the “What’s new with FME change log” (https://fme.safe.com/changelog/?_change_log_product=FMEFORM&_change_log_version=2022000002%2C2025000300), it mentions that the “FMW Reader: missing ArcSDE connection file parameter” was fixed in FME Form 2025.0.2. Not sure if this is related to my issue, as the reader is still unusable.

Does anyone know whether this is perhaps a bug in the ArcGIS Pro 3.5, or can anyone with ArcGIS Pro get a successful connection between the two versions of the software mentioned? Any help is appreciated!

Hi @fbinneman ,

Thank you for the detailed post and for sharing the steps you’ve already taken. We suggest opening a support case with us to understand your setup better and explore alternative solutions (https://support.safe.com/hc/en-us/p/Support). This will allow us to look into the issue more thoroughly, gather more details about your environment, and set up a call if needed.

While using ArcGIS Pro with FME Flow is technically possible, Esri has confirmed that using ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Pro in a server context (such as with FME Flow) violates their license agreement. Unfortunately, we can not directly support configuring FME Flow to work with ArcGIS Pro.

Please see our article on Using FME Flow with Esri ArcGIS Software:

Let us know if you’d like help submitting a case or if there’s anything else we can do to assist.

Best regards,

Toyosi

Hallo takinselure

Thank you for your comments - appreciated. I will open a support case for this.

I did make a typo in my initial post and referred to FME Flow instead of FME Form - apologies for that! I have updated my post, but could not change the title. Just for information - From the link that you have sent me, it seems that (luckily) there is no license violation between ArcGIS Pro and FME Form. We were also advised by ESRI to use this setup. Things just stopped working with the latest version of ArcGIS Pro 3.5.

I will close this question here and take it further as a support case.

Many thanks

Francois
