Hello,

I have not posted for a long time. I have been using FME Workbench 2022.2 and just now upgraded to FME Workbench 2025.1.  What I have noticed is:

In 2022.2 → Generate Workspace → Convert multiple files in any format into ESRI Shape format. I had no issues doing this.

In 2025.1 → Generate Workspace → Convert multiple files in any format into ESRI Shape format.  I get an error: “Unable to perform any licensing related tasks. Please check your Esri ArcGIS Compatibility workspace parameter, found in Navigator -> Workspace Parameters -> Spatial. This 64-bit version of FME requires ArcGIS Desktop along with 64-bit Background Geoprocessing; ArcGIS Pro; or ArcGIS Enterprise. Refer to this this article http://fme.ly/qua for more details

I do not have ESRI products installed on my server. (I never have needed them in past versions.)

Also to note, I CAN convert one dataset (format doesn’t matter just other than Shape file) into an ESRI Shape file format successfully. It seems as though doing “multiple files at a time” is potentially the issue?

Any help is greatly appreciated in understanding if this is a limitation due to not having ESRI product(s) or just a limitation due to the upgrade to 2025.1?

Hi @nick Are you using the Generate Workspace dialogue where you set the Reader Format to Generic (Any Format) and the Writer Format to Esri Shapefile?  I don’t see a problem with that in FME 2025.1 and it shouldn’t require ArcGIS to create the workspace. Please submit a ticket at https://support.safe.com/hc/en-us/p/Support if you still see get that error.

hi @DanAtSafe - yes I would go from the menu “Generate Workspace” when this error would happen.

I will try again a few different ways to assure it is not something goofy I am doing; however, I don’t think it is.

I will submit a support ticket if the issue persists.

Thank you!
