In FME / Esri compatibility chart it says ArcGIS 10.7.1 requires FME 2019.1 or higher

I tried FME 2018.1.2 and had no problems.

Can anyone detail what issues may arise with using FME 2018.1.2 for writing ArcGIS 10.7.1 FileGDB/SDE ?

Thanks for any hints

From ESRI:

"While ArcGIS 10.3.x to 10.7.x clients can open, query, edit, and save data in newer release geodatabases, they cannot open datasets that participate in newer functionality and will encounter the following error message when trying to open one of these datasets:

The version of the Geodatabase client is incompatible with the dataset and cannot open it.

"

So I would guess that a Geodatabase which contains these 'new' datasets might no be able to properly be opened with FME.

I would have to defer to @trentatsafe or @jlutherthomas on this one to see if there is something more to it.
