Hi there,

Sometimes in a large workspace, I need to zoom out and select a large area of transformers (to either create a bookmark, select them to move or delete, etc.), however at a certain zoom level I don’t have the granularity to control exactly what I’m selecting (I might be selecting things that I don’t want to select, then I need to zoom in and unselect these things).

It would be helpful, at a certain level of zooming out a workspace, to show a little pop up window when you start clicking and dragging the cursor to select things, so that you can see where in the workspace the cursor is and then control what is being selected.

Cheers

Thanks for sharing. I can understand that multi-selection can be challenge at a certain zoom level!
Would be curious to understand if you (or anyone else needing this) could elaborate on:

  1. Any novel workarounds to this? (e.g. Using the overview menu to navigate, without changing the zoom)
  2. Any other things that are missing when it comes to selecting multiple objects, based on what you’ve experienced in other products? (e.g. different selection method, like lasso)
    1. If you are suggesting other things, please elaborate on why you think this would help in your unique situation.

Hi Jenna,

Thanks for your response. To answer your questions:

  1. Nothing novel here, but maintaining my selection while zooming in and out as needed help me have better control over what I pick than just staying at a certain zoom level
  2. Yes a lasso/freeform selection tool is a good idea, a few other options to consider also are:
    1. Displaying a count of total items selected when making a selection. This will help if let’s say I want to select one more transformer, e.g. I can see a count of 50, then if the total count reaches 51 I know I’ve got what I want and haven’t selected too many things accidentally
    2. Displaying the last selected item. Similar to above, instead of a count, a little dialogue can show when in selection mode that will tell you the last selected item/transformer. This can explicitly tell me I’ve selected everything I wanted to select and nothing more.
    3. There could be a way to indicate when making a selection that everything is either fully selected, or if there are some partially selected things. Maybe the selection box could be green if everything is fully selected, or orange say if at least one thing is partially selected. In this way, I might think I have everything selected cleanly but if it’s orange that means I must have accidentally selected something I didn’t want for example.
