Just a thought but - FME has a SystemCaller which can make a call directly to the system. If you have another tool which does this already you can use FME to call it and then read the resulting textfile into FME.

Just to flip this around, and because its Friday, there was once a RingtonePlayer transformer somebody with time on their hands put together. This was back when having a Nokia phone you could customize was a 'thing'. I don't remember where it came from but it was a hit in the machine room at a customer site for a while until somebody was told to take it down...
