I'm working with a customer who is planning a data migration from one document management system to MS Sharepoint. At the moment we are looking at what options there are to use FME to do this via the Sharepoint Web Service to see if its possible to tackle this with a custom transformer or similar.

It would be great to write more than just Sharepoint lists, especially as in this instance we're talking about migrating 5 million documents.

Ditto, I've got a few hundred photos (inc gps coords) in a sharepoint site. I want to read the properties of the jpeg (as you would with a reader). Its proving tricky for this FME novice!

I suspect if it's achievable right now via the SharePoint API @revesz is the man who might know.

@revesz is in Croatia right now, not that it makes him less likely to respond! @just_super the SharePoint List reader should allow you to read the document library the photos are stored in, which will allow you to see the associated SharePoint attributes. I don't know whether this will provide the information you want, but it's worth a try if you haven't already.

I'm guessing you've tried providing the URL of the SharePoint file/directory as a parameter on an FME reader, and failed? This is a common one we've come across (normally for spreadsheets held in SharePoint) and not found a way around. Basically we need Safe to allow us to read and write to SharePoint for all of its supported formats, not just using the Lists reader/writers.

Assuming you need something more detailed than that, like Dave says, @revesz !

@just_super, a brief description of the document upload by SarePoint SOAP webservice is here. Let me know if you need a sample workspace :)

@revesz I would like to manage (upload, move, delete) files on SharePoint with FME. Your sample workspace would be very helpful in addition to the explanations here.

This would be excellent - 2 years later and still nothing!

We hear you...sorry.

Just to add weight to this request. I'm generating around 1000 zipped SHP files which I want to regularly update and as opposed to just placing them on a network drive I thought it it would be good to upload them directly to a SharePoint folder. Not as easy as it seems clearly.

Good timing. We're gearing up for this. Out of curiosity, what version of Sharepoint. And is it hosted locally or via Microsoft's cloud?

  • December 24, 2018

Hi. Sharepoint Server 2016, so an on-premise version. Thanks.

@Sweco we use Office365. Would love to help out and play around with the things you are making. Might even be a great thing to present some hands on expierces on the world tour. Or am I moving to quickly....

This FMEWT might be a bit aggressive but very good to know you're able to beta test/advise ...

The whole cycle would be really ideal for us and perhaps relates to this idea.

  1. Checkout a document
  2. Download it..
  3. <edit the document with whatever application such as Exell etc> not an FME step
  4. Upload the edited file
  5. Check it back in

*Also crucial (to us at least): Office 365 AD Authentication

I`m guessing this can be done with Microsoft Graph API and the correct REST-API call from here. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/graph/api/resources/sharepoint?view=graph-rest-1.0 @1spatialdave

This capability 'might' be just around the corner in the form of a dedicated connector transformer and an associated web connection for format readers. Fingers crossed and thanks to Safe for hearing the cry!

Hi, would be nice if document tags could be specified, too. We are using the Cloud version of Sharepoint.

Hi,

You guys can try Microsoft Flow to upload the output file to MS sharepoint folder.

i.e use FME to email the output file to yourself, in the meantime use the ms flow to save the output file into sharepoint folder (when you receive an attachment from your email)
