I have an Excel file with different template sheets within one file. Now I can only set one template sheet in the writer parameters. It would be nice to have the option to set the template sheet on the feature type level (e.g. in the feature type properties) in stead of applying it to the whole writer

has suggested this a while back. Makes good sense. Tracked as our PR 68141.
yup, the current Excel reader/writer have become much powerful than before, but I think there still is a room to do further enhancements. Thanks for your consideration!

The template functionality in the Excel writer is great, but I think it would be more powerful and flexible if the Template Sheet parameter would be added as a Feature Type parameter so that you can select a template sheet optionally for each destination feature type in order to:
- apply any template sheet in the template file to any destination sheets (one or more) with different sheet name
- remove sheets existing in the template file but unused in any destination feature types from the destination Excel file
