Thanks for sharing! I just wanted to learn more about your expectations for something like this.
Would you want users to have the ability to choose the basemap from a list of default options, similar to OpenStreetMaps or just the ability to set a custom basemap on the back end (e.g. in the Workspace Parameters/Manage workspace, etc.)? Any additional information about your use case would be greatly appreciated!
I would like to have the ability to set the background map when creating the Server App. On a related note, currently you cannot really test the picking functionality within Workbench; you have to publish to FME Server, use the picker, then grab the GeoJson string and paste in the workbench geometry parameter to test your workflow further. It would be nice if the UI of the Geometry Picker was also available in Workbench.
Allow a custom map as the background would be good for me as well. Would also be nice if user had a list of options to choose from, that come by default.
Imagine I am having my user select a polygon over several hundred kilometers or meters. Those two scales are so different that having options for what my map looks like will allow me to help my users figure out where they are placing their polygons. I can supply different information depending on the use case.
I would be nice to have it taken from the background map settings in the FME Desktop when publishing a workspace; something like adding the web connections or database connections. We could alternatively set the background map on FME Server.
Hi Chris. I'll answer for Dana. I like both options that you shared. We just recently started using geometry picker and found it cumbersome for users to have to make changes manually each time to see/view a different base map.
Would be nice to change the default location of the map, as well as choose a basemap. We are US based and would like to have the geometry picker default to somewhere in the US
