Pdf page formatter in 2015.0 Is a good start. The fields need to receive params and atttibutes please. And the frames should be allowed to have overlap and different page_units extents. For the time being can pipe the layout and marginalia through one and the map frame and scale bars and insets through others and it should work. But would like to use attributes in the PDF transformer instead of values.

I would also agree that having some additional (settable) parameters would make this transformer even more useful.

Would be very useful to have some extra parameters and make all available options prone to user parameters. The PDFPageFormatter is really nice thing to use but not so friendly for a fully database driven workflow.

I'll chime in here. Today the solution for a somewhat dynamic pdf formatting seems to be that you can have several PDFPageFormatters set up in parallell, for all the page formats you want to use, and then use a TestFilter to feed it, that checks a Published Parameter to see what page format the user wants.

But it would really be much better to have the format controlled by parameters that can be calculated from e.g. the bounding box the user enters.

Hello,

We just released a brand new Document PDF Writer along with FME 2025.1: https://hub.safe.com/publishers/safe/packages/documentpdf

This comes with a new transformer: DocumentPDFStyler allowing for much better document formatting.

I’d recommend giving it a shot, and let us know if you’d like to see improvement brought to this new version!
