libpostal is a C library for parsing/normalizing street addresses around the world. Would be cool to use this to prepare addresses for geocoding.

A great resource that came out of the Mapzen effort. If people contribute subaddress (apartment, suite, unit, floor, room etc.) it could be a world beater.

I see that the second version 1.0 is documented as handling sub addresses.

But it seems that we will need a local set of suburb and city polygons
