I would like to see the omf included as a reader/writer - most mining applications now support this format so it could be a quickwin for FME.

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/open-mining-format-more-important-than-you-think-industry-large/

Myself (and most mining houses) would also like to see FME native support for:

  1. Micromine - https://www.micromine.com/micromine-mining-software/ - .dat files, simple text files but be good to native support
  2. Leapfrog - https://www.seequent.com/products-solutions/leapfrog-geo/
  3. Datamine - https://www.dataminesoftware.com/solutions/studio-rm-resource-modelling/ - .dm files
  4. Deswick - https://www.deswik.com/software/
  5. IOgas - https://reflexnow.com/product/iogas/
  6. Surpac - https://www.3ds.com/products-services/geovia/products/surpac/ - again simple text files but be good to native support

Being able to reproject to and from custom mine grids to UTM etc would be great as well as filtering transformation as a start.

The mining & oil/gas industries are adopting open source software, similar to QGIS=

for oil/gas the standards are =

HDF5 https://www.hdfgroup.org/solutions/hdf5/  SUPPPORTED in 2026.1

RESQML for reservoir characteristics & earth models e.g https://www.energistics.org/resqml-standards/

for mining/mineral exploration/natural resources 3D software =

OMF e.g. seequent https://www.seequent.com/the-open-mining-format/ Open Mining Format The objective of the OMF project is to create a file format that allows 3D data to move cleanly between different software packages, allowing for successful manipulation and storage of that data by multiple teams with different areas of expertise  (OMF) - Global Mining Guidelines Group

GEOH5 e.g. https://geoh5py.readthedocs.io/en/latest/content/geoh5_format/index.html & https://mirageoscience.com/mining-industry-software/geoscience-analyst/

should FME create reader/writer support for these, it would help greatly with 3D visualisation collaborations

Datamine, gOcad and Leapfrog formats should be considered to import 3D objects and automate some queries and manipulations of these objects....

In 2022, to have a work around to be able to import Datamine, gOcad and Leapfrog 3D objects within FME to be able to automate queries and manipulations on these objects would be useful to many FME users to complete the link between 2D GIS and 3D spatial objects.

https://www.seequent.com/the-open-mining-format/ or Open Mining Format (OMF) - Global Mining Guidelines Group

The Global Mining Standards & Guidelines Group (GMSG) is spearheading a solution to this challenge – by developing the open mining format (OMF). The GMSG focuses on facilitating collaborative solutions across the mining industry, with working groups focused on topics like autonomous mining and underground battery electric vehicles. Their Data Exchange for Mine Software working group is focused on developing the OMF – an open standard created to help mining companies move data seamlessly through their software programs.
