With the recent release from Leica regarding their BLK360 scanner coupled with Autodesk ReCap software the use of this format type will become widely used and delivered as a finished project file. In fact, I already have some .rcp files that have been delivered (although .e57 or .las files would be better). As such, please consider adding the .rcp format within the Reader Gallery.

We would love to but at the present time there is no API for ReCAP reading available. We'll keep lobbying from our side. Note that we can write to ReCAP...

Thanks @daleatsafe, does the same apply to .rcs files? I got a sample point cloud and the .rcs file is the largest at 409MB (the .rcp is only 2kb). FME 2018 doesn't seem to have readers for this format. Thanks.

If rcs is a ReCap format, then yes, we can't read it for the same reason as below. I'm guessing the rcp is just a metadata type header and the rcs is where the data really lives.

Hi @Dale Lutz , any update? This would be extremely useful for our reality capture -> Esri ArcGIS workflows, as currently we have to get the surveyors to export an e57 file which we convert to las in FME and then to slpk in ArcGIS Pro. Also being able to write the most recent version of the slpk file format that includes point clouds would mean we could do the entire workflow in FME.

I just checked our systems to be sure, and this is planned for our FME 2022.1 release. Now I know we've not yet started, so we may not quite make .1, but it is coming.

Your idea around .slpk is also an interesting one, definitely noted here. Thanks for checking in. Watch this space for updates once we get this into a beta.

Over the past year or two I’ve noticed a significant demand for Recap file formats. More often now our clients are requesting that we accept Recap formats and having a license just to export to another format isn’t feasible.

Hello Everyone! We're looking for a bit more information to help prioritize work for future development, if you’re still invested in ReCap Reader support in FME, would you be able to provide any insight to the questions below?:

  • What roles and industries are looking for Recap reader support in FME?
  • What kind of use cases would the Recap reader address? / What are your major painpoints currently?
  • How are your or your clients currently addressing those use cases?

         BIM, Asset Management, Aviation Planning

  1. What kind of use cases would the Recap reader address? / What are your major painpoints currently?

Translate LiDAR capture of interior rooms and their assets. Ideally, integrating the photos and/or creating a photo mesh would be ideal.

  1. How are you or your clients currently addressing those use cases?

RCP to IFC using Autodesk Revit
