Being able to write to a format (PDF/Word/...) in which you can combine text/tables and maps/images would be great.

We currently have requirement to write to word, if we had the ability to style or use a template like excel writer that would be amazing

+3It would be great to have such default functionality. We use the word writer for two years now and it helps a lot to communicate data quality issues to our providers. I published my MSWord-transformers on http://hub.safe.com.
