Integrate an AI ChatBot for Real-Time Assistance in FME Form

Hi @danii - I can’t guarantee anything, but we, too, think it would be great for users to receive AI-powered suggestions on how to build and develop their workspaces. If you - or anyone else reading this - have any thoughts on specific functionality, please don’t hesitate to add them as a comment below.

As long as it won’t be as annoying as Clippy… 😅

All kidding aside, I think there’s a potential risk of a user building a workspace with this AI suggestions and ending up with effectively a big black box (i.e. “it works but we’re not sure why”). This could contrast with our best practice suggestion of documenting specifically why things are done.

For exactly this reason I would be very wary to use the AI assist to write Python code. It may do a good job, but I’m not strong enough with Python to determine that (I know enough of Regexes and SQL that I’d feel comfortable using the AI assist there)

The integrated ChatBot in FME would be a great improvement, especially for people who are new to FME and have some difficulties knowing which transformer and parameters to use to perform certain actions.
