Instead of EC2-based FME Cloud, would it be possible to run FME Workspaces as a service: something like AWS Lambda and payment would be per run. This would serve cases when FME isn't used continuously / often, but needs to be available when needed.

To give you a peek into the roadmap, our next goal is to allow people to deploy FME Cloud instances in other cloud ecosystems—mainly Azure and Google Cloud. If a customer's data resides in Azure, then AWS is not a viable option because of network latency and security concerns. So in the short-term, that is what we are focusing on. To do this we need a cloud agnostic way to deploy FME Server and we are looking to Kubernetes to help us solve that issue. Longer-term we have discussed offering FME as a service per-run but we don't have this in the immediate road-map.
